I was booted from webchat (Java based chat client) too -- But I loaded up MiRC and was back in. No Problemo. But why do I go in there? The "reps" have nothing to say except turn on moderation when people start talking about alternate hosting firms.

There's been a gentle sigh of relief today when CEO-Shawn changed his nameserver at godaddy. But what standard are we holding this guy to? It's over 15 days of downtime and this is the only proof we have that he's done anything -- besides yell at his customers and run "pre-launch sales."

This all reminds me of a story...

A boy arranges to buy a donkey for $20... When the donkey arrives, it is clearly dead. He asks the guy for his money back but the guy already spent it. So, what does he do? RSG2, while I appreciate that info you posted, that can't possibly be true. We've already had people state that those are Class A IP addresses, and no way in the world could Cyberwings own any. And since I know the info about moving to Cogent was a lie, that must also be false. Stop fabricating information!

Sorry, just had to throw in a little sarcasm from a different angle (and thus, don my flame-attractant suit). As much as I love watching this soap opera and fully agree that 'Mr. CEO' has bungled this continually and mindlessly, sometimes the attackers are a little too bloodthirsty and begin to sound as ridiculous as those they're attacking. "Oooh, ooh, let's argue over whether this is a Class A or Class C network technically, because it's more proof I can give to the Feds that this Shawn person is a BAD GUY!!!" (I'm not talking about those who were genuinely curious about the difference, and those who were good enough to explain it). Give it a rest fellas - the entire AT community here knows what a circus this company has been, especially in the past month. Your fervent, ravenous nit-picking isn't going to enlighten anyone. I know you have more important things to do than post (for some of you, very literally) every few minutes here. At least...I hope you do.

If you really have to attack something, let's start with the "brothers and sisters of Earth" comments made by Pam in chat. Now THERE is something frightening.

bgp is like a failover type of protocal, wehre if one router goes down, network reachability informaton gets passed down, so it fails over to the redundant router... That two seconds MIGHT be the amount of time for network failover to the redundant link...
but then again, mr ceo might be bs-ing

The transcript of that IRC chat is priceless.... I have never heard of a company urging its customers to come together, be supportive of each other, join for a group hug... all the while collecting $$ from them for services they haven't delivered!


And really, I'm kind of back to where I was in the very beginning, when I first started suggesting Wolfie is bonkers. Why in the world are so many people so blindly dedicated to this company? The ONLY THING cyberwings EVER had that other hosts didn't was a price that seemed too good to be true. And, hey, what do you know, it was. The company had no advantage in technology, certainly no advantage in customer/technical support, and a Web page that looked pretty basic (to put it nicely).

Yet, people still keep foaming about how great everything will be if (or when) the company comes back online. But what exactly will be so great about it? What makes cyberwings better than other hosts that, you know, deliver services in exchange for money?

As a customer who was getting perfectly good service until ~July, I'm content to wait this all out. I just hope that this downtime doesn't last too much longer, and they don't have similar problems with the new Data Center. As for those misinformed people who like shouting about shawn being a fraud, on his way to hawaii etc, I will just say this. You don't provide hosting to several thousand people, including many resellers, for over a year and at excellent speeds (and at such low prices), without having a large amount of cash to invest in the company.

I take this as evidence of Shawn's claims that he has substantial resources that he is willing to invest in the company to get it up and keep it running. This in combination with the fact that after several months of watching him communicate in IRC, he seems genuine to me. I guess only time will tell the fate of cyberwings, and conjecture at this point is pretty useless.

I know, waiting patiently is nowhere near as much fun as crowing about CW's "demise", and laughing at their customers, but the decent thing to do is to keep yourself informed, and post something here if you have something useful or factual to say. Not that there were a lot of facts in my post, but I thought it needed to be said.

Maybe... they are waiting for the "Second Coming" of Cyberwings? (Everybody - make sure that you are "Aligned", and that you are "coming together with the brothers and sisters of Earth" - nobody wants to have a second coming alone... nor mis-aligned.)


PS to Mods: I have a rather sarcastic wit (as if it weren't obvious from this post). However, I posted something at the end of the other Cyberwings "FYI" thread that probably overstepped the bounds of good taste, and I tried to edit it to delete it about 10 min after it was posted (I edited it once to try to tone it down, but neither way was funny, after I read it), but I couldn't, because it had gotten locked. I would like to apologize, to both the mods and "Wolfie", as it was probably an inappropriate comment to make, and not humorous at all, like I had originally intended, in my state of sleep-deprived stupor.

Nope, not a reseller, but I fully understand about all the clients of CW's resellers. It must be hell for the resellers right now, and it's not really acceptable, but the saying "you get what you pay for" really comes into play here. CW are so darn cheap (especially during their sales) that i just don't expect anything at all from them, let alone good service. It might be that they provide excellent service once their new DC's up and running, but i don't expect it for what I paid.

As for joining to defend CW, well, I didn't. I joined a while back when there were a lot of flamers posting ridiculous things about CW when the downtime first started, but didn't really see the point in setting them straight. They wouldn't have listened anyway.

I'm not going to defend CyberWings' handling of this downtime situation. I think it stinks, and it appears that very little effort has been made to keep customers informed. I understand that some of that information might be "sensitive", and I think shawn checks with his lawyers before posting updates, but it's pretty ridiculous when even the staff are woefully uninformed.

As requested, here are some facts:

On Monday July 15 at 2pm, in web chat, Shawn said that the "user questionnaire" would be posted within 24 - 48 hours. He also said it would be hosted on a special web site that would have "updates, ETA's, etc." and the site would be "updated hourly". He said he had an employee whose sole function would be to update that site.

On Thursday July 18, again in web chat, when questioned directly about when customers would see this questionnaire Shawn replied "very soon...I'm working on that tonight ".

It's now July 20. The CW Status site is down. There's no questionnaire. There's no special web site that's updated hourly.

Shawn might check with a Ouija board before making a comment, but a 12 yr old can see that he is not filtering his remarks thru a bevy of lawyers before making a post. He is simply tossing that term around (his legal counsel etc) as another way to infer the scope and size of his monstrous organization. Anyone hear about his IPO? lol
