I have to agree with everyone else, this is the most entertaining thread in AT history. I've laughed so many times, Kmad is a genious, and I hope it never ends. I've been idling in the chat, and I've been dying laughing. The funniest line I saw was;

<CHRISHSIAO>is shawn a big person?
<CHRISHSIAO>or could i take him?

I assume this was a joke at the fact Shawn was going to disolve the company because someone e-mailed him saying they're track him down and beat him up.

Lastly, in hosting, you get what you pay for. If it's for a real business, you can't go wrong with rackspace.com. Very expensive, but you get 24/7 tech support, toll free number, the best customer service in the business. Last year when I was bouncing around from host to host, I ended up at JTLNET.com. They're a mid size company, great service, solid control panel and good prices. They also added a toll free 24/7 tech support # recently, which I've used once. They also have a coupon out, but I don't know it off hand. Google might help with that.

In general, you want to avoid resellers. Go to the source, make sure they have their own datacenters. Having your own website is so much more fun when it's never down, always working, on a fast stable server. Before you sign up with anyone, ask them how many websites do they put per server. Most put 300-800 server per machine, the good ones run about 100-200. www.phpwebhosting.com was 125, and I think www.jtlnet.com is 140. I run all my e-mail through my domain, and if it went down for even a few hours I'd be freaking. Luckily I've never had a problem with JTLNET, so it's been a great run. I found them from the hosts.php.net list, a bunch of sites that support/have php.

How about domain names? Any chance at atleast keeping the domain name? Was the registration service part of cyberwing (Verisign says the owner is CW...)? Does anyone know the URL for the domain name account maintenance page?

The domain names from CW were actually done with godaddy as the registrar. You can try asking them about it. Keep in mind I'm talking about registrars here, NOT hosting.

Wow, cyberwings is up!!

This is the placeholder Cyberwings temporarily while we reinstall our website and related services. We are fully installed into our new Premier Cyberwings Data Center and will begin our rebuilding project immediately. All sites from the Maine DC and the Texas RackShack DC will be reinstated on our Premier Cyberwings Data Center servers during our rebuilding project. Please watch here for more updates shortly.

This page has been put in place by Cyberwings for your information.

Is it too late to start hoping again?

the domain name should be yours. just go to the registrant you bought the domain from and edit the info there.

Is it too late to start hoping again?

I find I'm so excited I can barely sit still, or hold a thought in my head. I think it's the excitement only a free man can feel. A free man at the start of a long journey who's conclusion is uncertain. I hope I can make it across the border. I hope to see my friend, and shake his hand. I hope the Pacific is as blue as it has been in my dreams. I hope.

i'm just glad that we're finally seeing something. all these bashes everyone's been saying really had me a bit worried, but i always believed it's better to have faith in something instead of being pissed off at it since all you get out of being pissed is dead brain cells. i'm glad that some light is beginning to emerge from the end of the tunnel. ^_^x

OK - this is second post for those that didn't get it in the first time:

Send me a mail and let me know 1) how much money you've dumped into cyberwings, and 2) if you've requested a refund, have you actually received it. If you're game and send me this info, I'll put together regular summaries and we'll get to see just how big this Cyberwings bomb is. I'll post back at least once a day on AT.

No need to send real names, and I promise not to sign you up for spam Just send me realistic, truthful information, and one 1 e-mail per CW customer (short e-mails)....

e-mail cyberloss@brasscat.org

I know this is rather unscientific (and it will be understated at best), but you'll probably find it interesting. From what I'm seeing already (just a few responses), it's pretty big bucks! Apparently, not everyone opted for the $4 plan.

PS - Sure, they've got a white page with times roman print stating "coming soon"--- keep in mind this has been accomplished after 2.5 weeks downtime. I believe they'll be up, and down again in 60 days (after their first month bills become 30 days past due.)

Well, with this new glimmer of "hope", we're sure to see at least another 700 posts to this thread. Should be plenty more speculation and commentary....we ain't seen nothing yet, 862 posts is just the beginning!!

* CEO-Shawn - Our New DC is 100% Functional. We have a placeholder up for cyberwings.com. 2 Servers are Live right now. 16 more servers are installed, ready to go. As soon as we get them cabled, configured & ready, they will be online (very shortly.)

* CEO-Shawn told everyone LAST Tuesday/Wednesday that we would be online between Thursday-Saturday - we missed that date, I apologize, we had a bad router we had to replace with a new Cisco router. We are online today with 2 servers, online shortly with 16 more. We are on the rebound and will be putting ALL staff into FULL REBUILD MODE immedaitely.

<CEO-Shawn> posted in the OLD channel: /me - Enough fun and games. People have been playing games with #cyberwings for days now, now that I am back and our new DC is on the rebound, I'm done putting up with games. Trouble makers will be kicked, banned. NO Guests allowed. I'm retaking control of this channel for Cyberwings with the blessings of the IRCOps who will also no longer have OPS in this channel either.

* CEO-Shawn - REFUNDS - If you ASKED for a refund, you are gettig one. NO going back on that. ALL refunds asked for WILL be granted and you can reorder in the future if you wish - but if you asked for a refund, you're getting it. Those of you who have stuck with us, great, and thank you.

* CEO-Shawn - Cyberwings.com will be FULLY updated with accurate, updated information with 24 hours and the QUestionnaire will be available within that time as well. Processes will start moving.

<CEO-Shawn> I cannot say as of yet, LS and I have agreed to go 100% silent on that situation - but we're working on it. Until then, our DC in Virginia IS online with 18 servers ready to roll. New ones.

* CEO-Shawn - Rebuild: Submit a questionnaire we will ask you to fill out explaining your accounts, where they were at, etc. ALL Individual Accounts automatically replaced with AYW. 7-8 staff plus 4 additional volunteers will be helping us rebuild 24/7 until our rebuild is complete. NO timeframe as to WHEN this will be complete, but it WILL start today.

* CEO-Shawn - We will be splitting our team into 5 people working on Resellers, 3 on AYW/Individual to start with. WHEN RESELLERS ARE DONE, all 8 people will work on AYW & Individuals that are left. Priority WILL be given to Resellers initially.

* CEO-Shawn - We are NOT planning on going back to RackShack at this point - we have 100% backups from those servers and we already have them headed to our DC in Virginia where they will be restored on brand new servers & brought back online there. We're not going backwards this time.

* CEO-Shawn has been LIVING inside our DC (yes, it's that nice!) since Thursday night (Ok, I did leave twice....) working NON STOP on our servers with another person who is assisting me there. We have ALL racks up, servers configured, MOST cabling done, and we've thrown the switch on TWO servers tonight, rest to follow shortly. It is a VERY massive project to bring a new DC online and we've done it in record t

* CEO-Shawn - WHEN Cyberwings Staff is not here, ASLEEP or Away, we will MODERATE this channel to make it NON FUNCTIONAL and will CHANGE OUR TOPIC to let people know that. When we are PRESENT, the TOPIC will be updated and we will unmoderate at our discretion.

CEO-Shawn - TEST DOWNLOAD FILE: http://www.cyberwings.com/plesktestfile.sh - please note with EVERYONE testing this download file our lines might get a bit congested.

Mr. CEO is currently in the channel (He had to have the IRCops give it back to him) and has pretty much embarked on his righteous fury once again...this guy doesn't have a clue...of course the channel erupted into bedlam, so it's moderated again. But he swears the questionaire (Do you like taking in in the hind end? Then stay with us...) will be up within 24 hours...But at least there are several devices that can be pinged on his netblocks now...

okay, back at the beginning of June I told people that they should call the state of Maine and check for themselves the validity of the Cyberwings. If you all are mad enough about your 4 dollars that you want something to happen, don't sit here and make lame threats of violence, get them where it counts and call the followign numbers Monday morning. CEO retorted to my original inquiry saying the State of Maine would defend his position, I have not found that to be the case when I call, let's see what happens when you do and maybe something will happen finally.

The state of Maine Division of Corporations. (207) 624-7752 This is the number I originally called my first time and they forwarded me a couple times but at least it is a good start. Here you can ask POLITE inquiries into the legality of being not licensed at all with the state, even as a sole proprietor and selling services for years. You can even inquire as to the legality of then filing for a Business
Corporation license only in June of this year (after being questioned regarding their filed status) and if you need to be registered with the state in some way if you are a sole proprietor previous to this date. They may tell you some bisinesses are not required to be registered with the state as long as they are registered in the town/county, ask for the county clerk to Old Orchard and then ask them if there is any Cyberwings or Shawn J. White licensed for any business there.
A curious person could probably find the exact address listing for the former data center if they wanted to check it out themselves. Do not make false accusations but if you have concerns, echo them.

The State of Maine Attorney General Office (207) 626-8800. The Attorney General is among other things, charged with enforcing all state laws. If cyberwings is in need of investigation as to their legality or if they have not been a legal enterprise for say (failing to provide services promised or being registered as a state corporation) then the attorney general should be aware. If the secretary of state or old orchard county clerk make you think that something is amiss, give the AG a call.

I do not recommend the better business bureau as they are mainly an institution formed to promote businesses and have little backbone from my experience and their results are almost never in favor of the consumer.

You may pm me for further details if you are confused how to proceed.

I've finally figured out this IRC thing with Shawn - It's cybersex for him. Moderate the channel, and let the salad tossers from OZ lick him for a while. What a waste of time...

It is curious to see some of the staff members missing - until the CEO mentions in passing that there wont be quite so many people Opped - leading to speculations that some of them have had their toys taken away. Now does that mean that Shawn did it or the IRCops? As usual, he won't comment on it (I didn't tend to issue public comments about what I did to my staff either, but I always issued an apology where necessary - which is pretty much always). Same old CEO...
