Just thinking out loud, but considering everything that has been going on, perhaps there is a reason Shawn didn't want to cross the state line into Maine? I can think of any number of legal reasons including, but not limited to, a warrant waiting to be served.

But seriously, can you really call it useless when in just the last 4 days, people have just come to the following conclusions:

it looks like my money is down the toilet. I've been hoping (stupidly it appears now) that they would recover to some extent. Now I guess it was all one big fiasco.

I'm in the same boat, with a multiyear domain name. I don't care about the hosting for a couple of buck, but I don't want to lose my domain name. Can anyone help out a fellow AT'er?

It's definitely time to go find another host. Instead of $3.90 a year it might be $20-$40 a year...but it'll be worth it if it works! .... Maybe I should see if I can get my few dollars back from 2checkout

I think that this thread is still very informational and keeping people up to date on the really really great deal that they found right here on the Hot Deals forum. From what I could tell, Anandtech users were the primary advertising for Cyberwings. I read more about it here than ANYWHERE.

I think that this thread is the least that can be done for all the people who got screwed.

Man, am I glad that I got my 2Checkout.com refund. I hit 'em up about 2 weeks back, and I got confirmation the next day. Now that's service! Too bad Cyberwings isn't as customer serivce oriented. It wasn't much, but $11.70 is $11.70. I never got around to setting up my sites, so I've had an open credit with Cyberwings for months... they said that my hosting subscription starts when I establish and setup my sites with them. By what I've been reading on this thread, I highly doubt that was the case. At any rate, I got my money back (thanks 2Checkout.com) and I hope that CEO get's what he deserves. If it's too good to be true...

Sept 12 update

Some of you may have noticed that as of today, cyberwings.com is using GoDaddy's free parking service to redirect cyberwings.com to the cyberwingdomains.com reseller page. We have no idea why. We figure Shawn thinks maybe he can make a few extra bucks reselling a few more domains that he won't be able to provide hosting for.

Here's some info from Sean Parsons, Pressident of Wild West Domains, the division of GoDaddy Software, which Cyberwings has previously been a domain reseller for:

MMMPPPHH! Rather interesting event just occurred. I have done nothing to request a refund from Cyberwings or the CC company but just did received one from 2CheckOut.com. I had ordered a 40.00 hosting package and got it all back. Sometimes good things do happen for those who wait. <smile> PS it was cc'd to cwings2001@aol.com. lol......somewhat ironic being reduced from big dog host to having and aol acct...
