Man, time to find a new place to shop... course i havent bought anything from them for my new computer I'm putting together -- go figure

In my experience, fedex has always been cheaper. UPS must be giving newegg some special discount to become the default shipper.

I ordered stuff from newegg on Sun and UPS was about $10 cheaper, but I went with FedEx instead because it always arrives faster and they have better service where I live. However, out of a whole system build I only ordered 2 things from newegg because they were jacking me on shipping for the whole order. They never did that before with a lot of things being shipped for free when they were small or didn't weight much. Now they seem to be padding the shipping costs a bit.

On a refurb purchase, UPS 3 days was $1. FedEx ground was $4.34.

BOOOOOOOO NEWEGG for this decision.

IMHO....UPS blows big time.

I never actually tried DHL (except for Airborne through Office Max a while back), but I'll give them a benefit of the doubt.

UPS sucks and blows so hard that it is not even funny. Ever since they screw me over so badly on my very first experience with them, they get no business from me (if I have a choice). They actually lost so-o-o-o much of my business that they should have just paid the $200 that destroyed receiver cost.

And I just got a new delivery guy who has been screwing up since his day one. Not that I am a bit surprised.

I must say that UPS starting around a year ago, simply destroys packages.
And, as was said, they really put you through the ringer on claims.

I'm no big fan of Fedex either, so its a choice between so-so and bad.

FWIW:
Newegg ships 25,000 orders/day
Did $1 billion in 2004
9th ecommerce retailer on internet
Will expect $1.4 Billion 2005
Will be going for NASDAQ listing
10,000,000 hits a day, 7,000,000 unique
Will introduce a "pay later" option for good customers - their own private label credit card.
(Quote)
Also in the works is a private label credit card that Newegg will introduce in time for the holiday shopping season, says vice president of marketing Howard Tong. Newegg, an online retailer of computer equipment and consumer electronics, joined the $1 billion annual sales club through organic and internal efforts, not acquisitions. It?s been on the web since 2000. Newegg serves more than 2 million customers who buy three to five items and spend about $300 each time they shop, Tong says.

The company caters to a younger demographic of gamers and IT do-it-yourselfers who grew up with computers and the Internet, like the latest in computers and games, and are often employed as information technology workers.

It?s that same audience of loyal shoppers that Newegg hopes to entice with a bigger inventory of consumer electronics, including big screen TVs and MP3 players, and easier ways to locate merchandise, Tong says

Fedex delivers to my house by 10 AM. They won't knock on the door, they just tape a tag to it saying they were there. Even if I was there too. So I have to be on the look out for them.
UPS leaves the packages anywhere from throwing them into the garage to leaving them with a business in town without telling me. So they deliver anywhere from my house +5 mile radius. Usually after 6PM
DHL WHOA! They just get somewhere away from the airport and deliver the package to some doorstep that looks good to them. They are about 35 miles from my house! And that service is after I went to their office and drew them a map to my house!

At least Fedex knows my address and I have never had a problem at the Egg, but if UPS is default shipping there may be trouble brewing!

Maybe he's an ex-DHL employee. That's what DHL does to all my packages, ninja-style delivery.

FedEx did this to me last week. FedEx letter (2 party suite tickets to U2 in Philly this weekend -b'day present for the better-half) seller had accidently checked 2 day instead of overnight. No problem really we had time. But when I checked the tracking the next day it was marked that it being held - not scheduled delivery date. Hmm. The FedEx guy goes by the house every day. Would it have been that hard to throw it on there? Not like a fedex envelope takes that much room.

I prefer FedEx myself, same as most of the bad experiences here with UPS is the main reason.
I don't believe for once that if Newegg wanted to use FedEx they wouldn't have come up with a better contract with them.
Wouldn't surprise me if the guy in charge got some nice freebies like a nice vacation, flights for setting up a deal with UPS.

Knock on wood here... my experiences with both FedEx and UPS have been great... FedEx Saver from NewEgg seems to get to my home a day ahead of schedule and FedEx has never left anything on my step... just a slip hanging on my door saying they tried to deliver and need to reschedule. UPS has left stuff on my step before.. not sure what their policy is for items that don't need a signature... UPS delivery woman always brings a biscuit for our dog! Overall, I prefer FedEx (despite Tom Hanks!) and will probably continue using FedEx from them even if it costs a bit more...

I would never willingly enter into a deal knowing that UPS was the carrier. I have had packages left in the rain in my front yard, and that isn't the worst of it. You just can't keep on touching the hot stove - sooner ot later you have to learn.

What really irritates me is the whole verified address thing. I understand the reasons for it, but that doesn't make it any more convenient. Neither my bank nor either of my CC issuers will accept additional verifiable addresses. Noone's home at my place during the day, and the nearest FedEx is a almost an hour round trip (more with traffic) and even farther for UPS.

So my choices are ship to work, and add 2 business days for some verification phone calls, or ship to home, let it get missed and make the retarded trek to pick up my package.

Just use the AT Real Time Pricing Engine to find the best price on what you're looking for -- most of the stores they list are good.

Agreed.. Seeing as how I live in San Diego, the FedEx saver shipping gets everything I order from their warehouse to me by around noon the next day. UPS in my area actually WAITS for the scheduled effing delivery date!! So it sits at the hub for a day or two, then gets delivered.. lol

Must be regional, cause Fedex and DHL really bite around here. The Fedex girl likes to scan "business closed" after I've seen her drive by 3 hours before.

There's a great UPS driver here. Probably the driver who really makes the difference.

I am personally a big fan of UPS but alot of that might be the fact that I do work for them...

My experiences before and during my employment at UPS has been good service with both them and FedEx. DHL on the other hand tries to screw me every chance they get. They have yet to get a single package right... *sigh*.

At my old place the UPS driver was WAY better than the FedEx guy. UPS would make me sign and not leave anything at the door which was good as it was a non-secured apartment complex. I had one time where I had a $20 shipment of $5 case fans come via UPS and a $350 GPS unti coming via FedEx. The UPS guy had to try twice before I was there to sign. The FedEx guy just left it on the doorstep, did not even bother to knock.

At my new place they are about even. FedEx still leaves it on my front step but at least I am in a townhouse now so it is a little more secure than the apt complex. I actually got mad at my UPS driver once which is a strange thing as I know him, his supervisor, his supervisors supervisor and so forth. The website said it had been delivered but I looked out front... no package. Looked out back.. no package. I was about to call when my wife came in with my package. I was like "where did you get that!?!?". She said she found it behind the planter out front. Guess the UPS guy was sneaky sneaky which was fine by me... I just wish I knew about that ahead of time.

Putting aside damaged/lost packages - the driver is what makes or breaks the service. I worked for UPS one year as a driver helper, someone that runs the package to the door during the xmas season, so I got to work with about 6 different drivers. Of those 6 drivers, I would only trust 2 of them with my packages...one of them was such a horrid driver that I wouldn't even want to be on the same road as him.

Needless to say, the UPS driver for my area has never rung my doorbell and has always left the package sitting in front of my door without asking for a signature. Now I guess this depends on the person since some people would rather them drop it off then stay home from work or wait an extra day to hang up the slip. The FedEx driver on the other hand, never left a package without signature...which got annoying so I had to sign for the on-file wavier. One nice thing is that he always attempts to hide the package from plain sight which is nice and something the UPS driver is suppose to be doing.

Dude, I'm not sure whats wrong with your local hub but here we never sit on packages just to deliver them on said date. The only time changes are made to ensure delivery on the correct date is for 1, 2 and 3 day air. If I ship a package from Seattle, WA to Spokane, WA 1DA we will still send is ground because that is how the network is setup. We have a ton of trucks every night between the two places and if it went on an aircraft it would fly to Louisville first, then back to Spokane.

UPS prides itself on delivering on-time. That is actually why alot of buisnesses use us. They want their package when they scheduled a delivery, not before or after. Alot of times it is much better for the company to get it on time. Regular consumers shipping back and forth make up only a tiny amount of UPS and FedEx deliveries. Most of it is volume moving to factories, retail stores, etc...

That being said, if any of you have problems with a WA state ups package (and I mean big problems) pm me details and your tracking number and I will see what I can do.

Yuck. 1/2 the time the UPS guy doesn't come by until past 6pm, sees the leasing office is closed and doesn't attempt to even deliver packages door to door.

Good thing I rarely buy anything from newegg.

Here UPS comes by at around 9am, while Fedex comes at 1am. UPS is faster by a day, too. And they actually make sure you get the package, not like Fedex which once just dumped the thing on my doorstep.

Norm

I agree. Only thing good about Fedex is that their main station is close to my house. If I miss a package, I can pick it up. But they don't ring the bell when they deliver. They just put everything by my door! I ordered something before that cost a few hundred dollars, they just put them on my door step! However, UPS ring the bell usually and they would wait a bit in their truck to see if you come out to pick it up.

I don't think UPS is that bad to be honest.

It's just like my parents place. There normal UPS driver is afraid of the dog (this is NOT a scary dog though she is big) but the backup driver always walks right up, gives the dog a treat, and deliveres the package. Kinda funny the different personalities.

UPS supporter here. I ALWAYS have to go down the street after 4pm and pick them up becuase the driver doesn't feel like coming up my drive, instead he just runs up and smacks a tag on my door. I've never had Fedex leave a package, not once. And I can recall having to pickup stuff on 8 different occasions in the past couple months. UPS on the other hand will actually ring the bell and deliver my stuff unless it need signed for. Plus UPS has cooler trucks.

EDIT: And F**K USPS. I swear they find a way to cram boxes every size and shape into my mailbox.
