it would be nice if there's a way to know where newegg will ship the product from (is there a way?). if i had known that the case i ordered is shipping out of CA and not NJ (i am in NY), then i would probably spend a bit more and pick the 3day shipping, but since I couldn't tell, i took the discount and gambled (and lost). If it's out of NJ then it doesn't matter, I get it the next day after it's shipped regardless of the method.

So my choices are ship to work, and add 2 business days for some verification phone calls, or ship to home, let it get missed and make the retarded trek to pick up my package.
I've had items shipped via fedex to work and apartment (not a billing address) and have never had to deal with the address verification thing. Maybe you should give them a call. Lots of people here are still talking about drivers. Drivers do not represent the whole company.

Guess I'll be shopping at ZipZoomFly even more. Just bought two things there over the last week and both were shipped timely and via FedEx 2-day for free.

I prefer FedEx because I have a signature waiver with them. If I forget to leave a note, UPS will never deliver my packages and I hate waiting the extra day. They also don't come until late in the day. One time, a package said out for delivery at 6:00AM. I came home from work at 5:00PM and it still hadn't arrived so I decided to wait for it. I ended up leaving for dinner at 8:45. That was almost 15 hours after the status page said out for delivery. Came home to a yellow sticker instead of my box! Missed him by 10 minutes. LMAO. The next day, it happened again even though I had gone online and changed my package to "pick up." I went to the UPS office to pick up my package and found out my box was on a truck and was supposedly out for delivery. Came home to another yellow sticker because I hadn't left a note. I was going to pick it up! That night I went to the UPS office to pick up the box, but even that was a hassle because they don't seem to know when their drivers are going to return. Argh! Finally got my box at like 9:30 that night.

The only time I have a hassle with FedEx is when I order from Monarch Computer. The idiots instruct FedEx to ignore signature waivers. At least FedEx can tell you when a driver is going to return with your box though. That makes it easier to pick it up the same day as a delivery attempt.

UPS and Fedex are only as good as your local driver, so get to know your driver and you will have less problems.

Every package I get from UPS is smashed down in some way. $60,000 worth of parts with Fedex and I have never had a damaged box. Newegg is really pissing me off with this change. If you add any big item they automatically remove the fedex express option.

Wow, I was just about to say that. I have yet to get a box from UPS that wasn't smashed in some way. Even my computer case, and they left it in the rain.

My shipping order:
1. DHL
2. FedEx
3. USPS (simply because priority is a good value for the speed)
4. UPS

I've never liked UPS, I've watched them throw my packages around and somehow it always takes more tiem to go from buffalo to rochester (an hour drive) that it does to go from CA or where ever else it's supposed to come from.

I've had good and bad experiences with both. In the end, it all comes down to the driver when you are talking about actually getting the package, and I don't think you can generalize and say one company has higher standards for drivers than the other. I've had horrible drivers come from both companies. However, I find that FedEx Express usually gets me things faster than expected when they are coming from long distances (i.e. coast to coast) and that UPS Ground gets me things faster than expected when they are local. I will say that I prefer UPS back home, because my local UPS driver there is awsome: he knows the whole neighborhod (vicinity of E. 10th St., NYC) by face if not name.

Bingo. My experience exactly.

They've done this to me to. One time, they got my package to my city a day early, so they put it back on the truck and sent it to a city 100 miles away, then sent it back here the next day. That's just stupid.

Regardless of the carrier, I sit on my tail, order something I wish to have and a few days later it is at my doorstep.

Yay for online shopping.

I rent a UPS Store mail box. A few months back I ordered a navigation system which had UPS next day delivery. The next day I arrived at the UPS Store just as the morning delivery truck arrived. The driver got out of the truck and climbed into the back. 30 seconds later a small box came flying out of the back of the truck and landed on the road. Yup, you guessed it - it was my GPS system. I was considerably less than happy.

That story aside, UPS is always 5 days from CA to MI which translates to a week or more. SUX!

Anything shipped to work UPS is by far the best.
1 day delivery ground from as far south as NJ.
I have never had UPS sit on a package.
Fedex takes much longer from the same distance.
At home though is another story. I hate my UPS driver.
She will not leave a package even with a signed form.
I always have to be late to work to pick it up at the office.
Never had that issue with Fedex if I leave the release form.

When I ordered my G5 from Apple (in a huge box, with a picture on a G5 and a big "G5" printed on the sides), I was away at school and came home to find it sitting on my doorstep. They didn't put it behind the bushes that line the front porch - in fact it was too much effort for them to even push it up against the wall. Instead they left it in plain site right on the step. I could have killed the driver!!! That was fedex, but I've had no better luck with UPS. They completely demolished a front lip for my car. It's difficult to find a good shipping company anymore.

Seem like newegg is starting to slip. You'd think they'd get better with the increased competition, not worse. Maybe this is the trickle-down effect of the war, the hurricane, high gas prices, and the fools in the puppet's cabinet that are taking us to new deficit highs lol.

Where is this "increased competition" you speak of?

aaarghh, i haven't bought anything off newegg in a while so didn't know they even switched to UPS... anyway, i used to think FedEx was better but I've had cases delivered by both and have arrived with the box damaged and sometimes even the cases themselves...

so they're both about the same to me know, except fedex is faster..

Maybe he's an ex-DHL employee. That's what DHL does to all my packages, ninja-style delivery.

LOL

So very sneaky! My 7800GT arrived from Dell just like that...

DHL left my $2000 (-$750 with coupon) laptop outside my house while I was gone :Q

I've never actually had any problems with ups, fedex or dhl. The ups guy shouts "UPS" and just rings the door bell and leaves the package. That's good enough for me, at least I know there's something there when I go look.

I always reveived packages from Newegg from CA to the Midwest in 2 days. Always! Never any problem with crushed or dirty containers. In order of preference of shippers:
Fedex
Airborne
DHL
UPS
USPS (by far the worst. a factor of 10 worse than anything else except the following.)
Pony Express

The FedEx vs. UPS expereinces always depends upon the local driver/hub situation. For those of you who actually have FedEx drivers employed by FedEx, your experiences are probably pretty good. For those of you who have FedEX CONTRACT drivers (and they use the FedEx trucks and wear the same FedEx uniforms, os you cannot ell unless you ask the distribution center you are served from), your experiences are quite variable.

We, unfortunately, have contract FedEx drivers in our area and no FedEx employees driving. This makes a substantial difference in delivery time, quality, and even if you get it delivered at all.

Had an overnight package....a notebook from RMA at emachines. Attempted delivery but we didn't know they were coming so missed it. They left a doortag stating they'd be back tomorrow. That came and went.....no delivery. Three days later I had to drive an hour to go pick up the damned notebook. Each day the FedEx website said delivery had been attempted and no one home......which was untrue.....and interestingly, this was scanned into the system each day 15 minutes before the truck left the sorting facility.

Seems contract drivers are paid by the package delivered and not by the hour. They also have the option, unlike FedEx employees, to determine when they are done...no matter the time of day or what's been delivered and what's not been delivered.

So, around here, FedEx absolutely blows. UPS, on the other hand, shows up by 10:30 each morning, regular as clockwork. Never a problem with them.
