I know this is area-dependent, but here north of Boston UPS are complete morons and FedEx are just fine.

If this drives neweggs shipping cost further up I'll be forced to do the zipzom thing.

As a point of reference, in September I ordered two mainboards, two CPU, RAM and assorted other nonsense from three vendors. Two ship FedEx, one UPS. I ordered on a Friday afternoon, all within one hour. All Fedex stuff from both shops, which was shipped cheaper on average, arrived Wednesday. The UPS package arrived the Monday thereafter. Since that package had the CPUs in it I could do plain nothing that weekend in between.

I was talking to the FedEx regional reps in my area (SoCal) and they were happy that UPS came in and took over the account. When FedEx signed up Newegg they were after market share and gave away the farm. Every package lost a little. Customers won't see any difference in price, but Newegg's bottom line will look a bit roiser. The shipping discount is not divulged on the shipping label.

Think this through - short the stock. The competition will make both companies miserable.

FEDEX Express service that newegg offers is cheap fast and reliable, UPS always deleivers late for me, and most of the time I find myself waiting till 5 PM for a knock on the door, if any, if I don't receive the item it's either a 15 minute drive or another day of delayed BS, I am glad that they offer both options, and the premiums on shipping are related to fuel surcharge nothing else
Oh and BTW FEDEX > ups .

The most interesting thing to me is that both Fedex and UPS generally transport packages even faster than claimed. For instance, my latest newegg order, placed on 10/12, shipped UPS,,arrived in Albuquerque (80 miles from me) on 10/13. That's TOO early, so they let it sit, and it will be delivered 10/17.

I think that is counter-productive, since by the Web tracking I can see what is happening.

According to an email I got from Newegg, FedEx initiated the changes in Express saver shipping

FedEx recently changed their shipping methods according to our customer's zip codes. In California, Express Saver is still an option and when selecting the drop down shipping menu, the list of prices are displayed. As oppose to other states like Pennsylvania, where Express Saver is no longer an option. We at Newegg.com apologize for this hindrance. We are here to work with you and alleviate the issue as best as possible.

Please understand this was not our intention to aggravate all of Newegg.com's customers. The change regarding FedEx Express Saver was initiated by FedEx themselves.

I wish. I'd say that generally UPS packages are not on time, or at least my experience is that 1/2 the time the package is delayed.

My UPS 3 day package from gamestop (tracking posted several posts up) is on business day 5 today and my Dell UPS ground computer was rescheduled from Friday to today (also on business day 5, from TX to CA). FedEx Ground from CA to TX is almost always 2-3 days, including Saturday with FedEx Home delivery.

The sad thing is that I might not get either package today, depending on the driver. Yay, UPS!

This is fine with me. Almost everything I buy comes UPS anyway, I almost never get FedEx, so its just one less delivery to wait around for.

FWIW, only package I have ever had damaged or missing was a FedEx

Here in Wisconsin, I always got my egg stuff in 3 days. My latest order (now UPS) is on it's fifth day and has not yet reached Illinois!

Someone else from Wisconsin? Have you ever had problems with the UPS hub in Illinois? I've had one package get re-routed from there to Oregon, then back, and another just sit there for almost a month because the package got tore apart. :| Today, got a subwoofer from Amazon and the driver was just gonna leave it sitting on my doorstep.

Obviously, there are some rookies here. Let?s clear up the confusion?

I work at UPS and let me tell you me and my friends DO NOT ship UPS. Why? Because of damaged packages. You would be amazed at the amount of damaged packages at UPS. Why, because they do not care, it is all about speed not quality. I could give you a master thesis on equipment, loading, package handling and anything else at UPS. I know, it is sad, I even work there but I am telling you the truth.

In my experience, FedEx is very good with damaged packages. However, if you do not now about this, then listen up?FedEx has a policy that they can deliver the package to your neighbor and they can sign for it! You did read me correctly, it is completely true. Call them if you do not believe me and ask them yourself. It has happened to me many times and my neighbors have opened my packages. I have had the FedEx driver re-deliver a package numerous times.

UPS can find my address better than FedEx, however, with UPS the package will be damaged. The Post Office is the best bet for quality service. Second in line is FedEx. Bottom of the barrel is UPS. I know, I work there. Truth hurts.

The thing you guys are missing here is the business services UPS provides that FedEx has only barely begun to start. UPS provides a whole business with warehousing and shipping logistics, where they've actually begun to warehouse items for small companies, and ship on demand. In fact, if you own a Toshiba laptop, guess who's repairing your laptop? Yeah, UPS is. Trained by Toshiba engineers, but UPS employed nonetheless. If you're curious, pick up the book "The World is Flat", by Thomas Friedman.

Don't get me wrong, I much prefer FedEx's service on a local level, but UPS provides much more comprehensive service on the business end, which probably means a much shorter time-to-truck than with FedEx. So the time saved by going with the faster delivery service is offset by the extra time it takes to get the goods packaged and on the truck.

Welcome to the world of UPS.

ALL of my previous orders have taken 2 days to get from CA to MI with FedEx Saver. This last week I ordered a new wireless NIC via UPS 3 day. It shipped on Wednesday and got here on......you guessed it.....Monday. EVEN THOUGH it was in my city Friday morning. UPS held the package until Monday.

Ahh the old Cache IL hub. It is notorious for screwing up deliveries to Milwaukee. DIE UPS DIE. I just recieved another box from UPS today and it's crushed in the center.

My orders from Newegg are always on the FedEx truck that night and are delivered in 2 maybe 3 days. UPS can't touch that. It's a minimum 3 days maybe 4 when shipping from Newegg.

To be fair, FedEx does the same thing. I've had packages sit at the local terminal for an extra day or two (or over the weekend) if I didn't pay for the expedited service. Sometimes you get lucky and they'll deliver it early (especially if you had a package or two priority overnight and maybe a couple others 2nd day or Saver, they may bundle it all together.)

I have to say, UPS is horrible for residential delivery. I had UPS leave $3000 dollars worth of guitar equipment IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DRIVEWAY, next to a four lane highway. I made sure to take off that afternoon from work so I'd be available for the delivery, but there was no point. They didn't knock or ring the doorbell. Just dumped it as close to the road as they could get it and ran away. If I hadn't noticed before my roommate got home, he wouldn't have been able to pull his car in out of the road from the boxes blocking the drive.

Of course, he works for DHL, and he has plenty of horror stories about many of their drivers, as well. He has seen drivers report "Attempted Delivery, Business Closed" at his mother's place of employment, which did not close for another 3 hours.

Probably the best solution is to makes friends with somebody who works at your local hub, and have them snatch your packages off the line before they ever hit a truck. It's the only reason I continue to let my roommate live in the same zip code as me. =)

Either you are full of BS or the hub you work at REALLY sucks. First off, your wrong about one thing, UPS also has the policy to deliver to a neighbor if you are not home. This is entirely on the drivers discresion and normally does not occur as they figure it is safer to just leave a notice then drop it at a neighbors.

Second, I have had only minor damage to any of my packages and that was all dented corners, my contents have NEVER been damanged when shipped UPS. FedEx has actually damaged a cold cathode light I received. Well, to be fair I don't know if it was a DOA but the package was pretty beat up.

As I have stated before, I work in management at UPS and in my hub here I make sure we get things out on time and intact. Our drivers are some of the best and we have the lowest damages in the company. If anyone has a problem with a package in the WA state or northern Idaho area pm me the details (tracking number) and I will do what I can to find out whats wrong and get it moved.

Just to throw some more fuel on the fire... I haven't had luck with either FedEx or UPS.

This package arrived TODAY (10/18), again from FedEx. I think the contents are okay so I haven't opened the box yet. It should contain some clothing my wife ordered - tough to damage clothing by smashing a box. However, imagine some expensive computer parts inside this box... The ruler in the pics are there for a sense of scale. The dents probably went deeper since cardboard tends to spring back a bit.

I got in on the Dealsonic SkyHawk case deal and placed my order 8/31. The case arrived via FedEx with a small puncture in the external cardboard... that extended inside to the case. The force of whatever punctured it caused the whole face of the case to shear off, breaking almost all the tabs. Image 6 shows the top of the case with the innocuous looking scratch that matched up to the puncture hole. Image 8 shows the FedEx label and the "Fragile" sticker.

You are correct... Fedex it's like 9am to 12pm
UPS it's like 4:30pm to 7:30pm
It could be that they take so much time to deliver it that smashing your package was the reason for the much delay.

Man, why???

Ive had a much better track record with Fedex then with UPS. Yes there have beens times when the fedex package came in beat up but this was uncommon. The main determining factor for me, is their speed. Almost always whenever i order from newegg i receive the item a day before scheduled arrival, using UPS i usually get it the listed date or the day after because of some bs.
