Please understand this was not our intention to aggravate all of Newegg.com's customers. The change regarding FedEx Express Saver was initiated by FedEx themselves.
WTF? As I've stated earlier I do work for "one of these companies" -- Which happens to be FedEx Express. And I have no idea what Newegg is talking about. There is no change to our Express Saver service. They must be smoking something good over there.

UPS can find my address better than FedEx, however, with UPS the package will be damaged. The Post Office is the best bet for quality service. Second in line is FedEx. Bottom of the barrel is UPS. I know, I work there. Truth hurts.
It helps when you put LEGIBLE address numbers on a mailbox or something VISIBLE from the road. Thats 90% of the problems with "Bad" addresses.

As for a few things I've read in the thread about either company "sitting" on packages -- There is a commit date/time on these packages that, believe me, at least for FedEx, it better be delivered On-Time! Express saver is due the 3rd business day by 7:00pm (Residential) or 4:30 (Business) -- at least 98% of packages fall under this time commit. You're not going to get your packages before 10:30 (Priority Overnight commit time), thats a guarantee And most drivers (at least in my area) are finished around 4pm, so you'll get it before then, usually. It all depends on how the route in which you live is structured. You'll usually get your package at approximately the same time on different days. Not to shoot ourselves in the foot, but yes, you will get your packages in 3 days or less (depending at what time you ordered it - Newegg will ship things, say, very early on the 12th, with a ship date of the 11th on the package which means it has to be at your house on the 14th -- 2 days in your eyes) UPS Ground can take up to 7 days. Express Saver is our "slowest" way of sending a package. FedEx Ground, however, is another story.

Every station/district/region keeps an insane amount of statistics and quality metrics. Delivering packages late is a no-no. Yes, your package that is supposed to be delivered on the 8th may have arrived at your local station on the 7th but there is no guarantee that you'll get it on the 7th. While its in the couriers best interest to deliver that package on the 7th (since thats one less package for the next day), he doesnt HAVE to. Especially if he is already really heavy for that day.

As for delivering, as someone said -- to a neighbor -- yes, is FedEx policy, but youre not going to find many couriers who are already in a time crunch to: Ring your doorbell, wait a bit for you to show (or not), and then go to a neighbor and do the same thing (and not to mention 15 more seconds of extra crap he has to put in his tracker). As of last month, FedEx can now release Residential packages without a signature (much like UPS). The policy states they should still attempt to get a signature, but of course there will be couriers who just "drop and run" -- or as someone called it "ninja-style delivery".

And as for package damage, its really a 50/50 between how the retailer packaged their product and how the package travels through the system. Yes, some packages will get dinged up, but we dont purposefully try to do that (duh). You're box with your new motherboard may unfourtunately say hello to the corner of someones new 30lb case -- thats not going to turn out well If its really bad you can refuse shipment, or in the case of good retailers like NewEgg, you are able to send it back for replacement.

Hopefully this clears up a few things...

Fedex from NJ to NY for me is a lot faster than UPS. Twice UPS took 4 tries, yes 4 tries to get my house correct. I never get that problem with Fedex. Also Fedex calls you if they arrive and no one picks it up for me and they are open on weekends.

LOL, I like that, "ninja-style delivery." I've been getting that for the past two months with UPS, FedEx and USPS. I'll watch them from the second story window when I hear the doorbell - soon as doorbell is rung they are back to the truck and on their way. I think I only had to sign for packages 2-3 times and only with UPS on some more expensive orders. Perhaps shipper indicated signature required - an extra fee for residential deliveries.

My experience is that FedEx is great and UPS is horrible. UPS often misses their delivery dates. Once UPS delivered to the wrong address then gave me the run around like I was supposed to go find the package myself.

I had the same thing happen to me before from OM/UPS. UPS delivered my memory to a completely different city (3 miles away) then gave me the run around. They told me the address (which obviously wasn't mine and was different from the address on the package) and who signed for it. Then UPS refused to pick it up and redeliver it.

It took over a week for the clowns at OM and UPS to straighten it out. In the end OM just resent my order and UPS was never capable of picking up the original misdelivered package.

Newegg needs local pickup, obviously most people who order from them wouldn't even be able to pick up. But, Mwave has pick up, and prices as good as the Egg generally. FedEx has been pissing me off lately, last 3 Egg orders sat at their wearhouse that's 20 minutes from me for 2 days, I know it's "3 day super saving" shipping or whatever, but if my package is at the Ontario plant right up the street from me at 6AM on Wensday, why the hell do I have to wait until Friday to get the damn thing?

Mwave all the way, I can order at noon, and go pick it up the same day

i prefer fedex. fedex ALWAYS delivers my stuff a day before its scheduled to. UPS hasn't been late yet i don't think, but they never bring it early, even if the receive the package at the local center 2 nights before its scheduled.

I've only recieved a package from UPS once where it took 4 days instead of 5. All the times I've used FedEx Express Saver from newegg it has taken 3 out of the 5 days and it often comes in two.

Thanks for the info dug, now I know how my competitor works... HA HA HA!!!

Actually, you guys (FedEx Express) have a hub/building about 50 feet down the street from my UPS hub and office, kinda funny. About 1/2 mile away is the main DHL hub, though it is the smallest and crappiest of all three.

Unlike FedEx Express (I have no idea how FedEx ground works only that I don't trust it at all), we sort at all of our centers so your package has a greater chance of being damaged. As Dug mentioned, large packages sometimes do come down and crush those little guys which is a bummer. If it is really bad we open the package, inspect the contents, and rewrap if it can be salvaged otherwise we send it back to the shipper.

Like FedEx, we have a gazillion stats (I should know, I am in the engineering department) and missed deliveries, damages, and sitting packages are a big no-no. Contrary to some peoples belief and some hubs practicies, UPS has a policy to never sit on volume. Those packages are taking up space in a hub and only add to a drivers volume the next day. The only time I have ever seen our hubs here sit on volume that was not committed for that day was when a driver was REALLY heavy and was working a 10+ hour shift and then only if it was multiple packages. I'm not sure why some of you have had this happen as it is not supposed to.

As a computer builder for many years it should be comforting to some that I still trust UPS to deliver my computer parts, there have been no damages yet in all the hundreds of parts I have recieved. In fact, I believe my districts damage % (Washington state, Alaska, and Northern Idaho) is somewhere around 1/10th of a percent.

By reading the title "newegg now ships UPS by default" for a second I thought if I buy any thing from newegg that runs on electricity they will ship a free UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) without even asking (by default)

ALL of my previous orders have taken 2 days to get from CA to MI with FedEx Saver. This last week I ordered a new wireless NIC via UPS 3 day. It shipped on Wednesday and got here on......you guessed it.....Monday. EVEN THOUGH it was in my city Friday morning. UPS held the package until Monday.

You know what? In my experience only Fedex holds a package when it arrives early in your city so that they deliver on the the promised delivery day. UPS on the other hand if you did 3 day shipping from NJ to NY they would just deliver the next day, while Fedex would hold onto for 3 days and then deliver. I've noticed this happen many times.

As an aside to this topic, I ordered from Newegg today and man they gouge for shipping. They don't combine shipping at all, they just pile it on for each and every little item you put in your order.

Well for me Fedex ground they never hold, i have stuff delivered overnight useing fedex ground if it was only a few hundred miles.
Fedex 3 days express has held before , but it is rare for me, usually get my stuff fron newegg in 2 days useing FEDEX 3-day express saver, i tried UPS that was $0.50 cheaper once from NEWEGG and it took like 5 days.
It is FEDEX for me, as for 50cent it is worth the 2 to 3 days faster.

I think it really depends on your regin/location. But here in Davis, Fedex all the way. UPS is the worse POS there can ever be. I've had items sit in their Sacramento sorting center for 2 days because they had 2 days before their 5 days were up. Or better yet, I've had them out for delivery to only be taken back to the center without even an attempted delivery. And they like to drop Dell boxes out of their truck as if they were indestructible.

Where I live Fedex is good on the East side of town, and UPS is good on the West side of town. It really depends on the driver.
