I am sorry for posting this here.. I have tried other forums with no luck.. I need assistance.. and I dont know how else to you find you guys!!

I found this deal on here.. and I know a few other of you did too...

I am going to take Amazon.com to small claims over not paying a rebate..

I am looking for anybody that purchased the Sharp VLZ3U Mini DV camcorder last year when it had 2 rebates on it... $50 Manufacturers $100 Amazon.com

If you recieved both rebates.. please let me know!! Amazon is not honoring their $100 rebate because they are telling me that it was stopped 5 days before I purchased it.. even though their CSR's told me that the rebates were good at the time.. and.. they are saying that they cannot make exceptions for anyone.. but I know some of you recieved the $100 rebate!!!

so please..if you purchased that and recieved both rebates please contact me!!!

thanks!!

chalk it up as a lesson learned regarding companies and rebates. but usually amazon is one of those big guys that are good about rebates.

do you have copies of everything you sent that shows the date of your purchase and the date which the rebate expires? including the customer rep's name that you talked to?

I got mine but I was pre-emptive - I sent them an email before sending the rebates and asked which rebate I should include the original UPC with. They replied back and told me which one. I replied again asking them to verify that I would still get the rebate for the other one with a copy of the UPC, they replied back yes. So I printed that email chain and included it with both rebates.

There is a long thread about this on chubbywallet.

PS - Although it's an incredible camera for $199, I think it would still be an excellent deal at $299. I wouldn't be too obsessed with getting the other $100 back. I love this thing - it is so tiny we take it everywhere. The biggest negative on it is indoor shots in low light are pretty grainy - but certainly reasonable quality imo. Outside shooting is outstanding, and the twisty architecture is great for all the kid shots - makes it easy to hold at waste level so you're looking them dead-on instead of always looking down at them.

jurovi, I highly recommend you (a) contact your Attorney General's office (b) file a complaint with the BBB (c) refer to the thread @ FW for further help/suggestions.

Oh.. I have copies of EVERYTHING!!! I have sent them everything.. and they are not budging one bit..

Martha Lynn.. can you PM your email address? I am going to PM you my information.. I just want one contact... they said they cannot make ANY exceptions.. and if they sent you the $100 rebate.. then there is the ONE exception that calls them liars!!!

I am really not worried about the $100.. it is just the principle... as many rebates that go on that dont get paid.. the consumers have to start doing something about it...

well.. this consumer is.. and martha.. you are the kink in their chain!!!

Also, I tried everything.. BBB, Attorney Generals office.. everything.. writing letters...

and they kept saying that since they have a little sentence on the rebate form saying.. "Amazon reserves the right to change the terms at any time" they do not have to pay it..

and that they will not make exceptions for anybody..

Martha.. you are a lifesaver.. please check your private messages..

Well hang on.

If you have a copy of an official rebate form that says specifically that the rebate qualifies betweeen xx/xx/200x and xx/xx/200x, AND you have a receipt that shows you purcahsed this item between those dates, then you can push for this.

If the only thing you have is a rep giving you incorrect information, things will be tougher...

Did you know that there are companies out there (TigerDirect) who make their money on giving out confusing or incorrect info and not honoring rebates?

Specific paperwork and written trail is the only thing that will give you a reason to believe you can really win this and get your $100.

People nowadays even record their conversations if they can't get a written confirmation...

For those who think simple complainning to BBB will help, did you see a BBB report on TigerDirect? They continued to not honor rebates, etc. long after receiving a failing grade form BBB... do you have written proof?

Maybe when you get your lousy $100 back, you can use it to pay the doctor for treating the new ulcer you just caused yourself...don't let it ruin your holidays...

Yes, I purchased this from Amazon probably 6 months ago and received both rebates. Doubt I have any paperwork left to prove this though.

If he sent in a form that clearly stated rebate was not valid on the day he purchased the item thinking "....oh well what a heck, the rep told me it would be OK..." that's just plain ignoring the major rule of the rebate jungle.

Of course they're not going to give him cool $100 just because their "minimum wage" rep made a mistake which they probably think never even happened because there's no proof.

On the other hand if he purchased the item within the rebate time frame, then that's another story, but I don't think it sounds like that's what happened because other people got their rebates and Amazon is not known around here to deny valid rebates if you have copies of what you sent....

This isn't just the rule of rebates. Anyone working in the service sector has seen this before. Some worker who doesn't even have the authorization to say "yes" suddenly tells some customer that everything is going to be okay, and that we will take care of that for you... then the supervisor has to explain that things don't work that way...
