With my less than a positive experience with the G3 I'm skeptical of going with any LG phone in the future. Always had random and unexplainable shutdowns and reboots. The battery died just beyond 1 year and this past week I've been getting the common Invalid Card error with the SIM. Today it has completely refused the sim even after multiple restarts. The sim works solidly in my 4s so it's not the card. All this within 2 years too.

I don't need the latest and greatest and besides all the quirks it still serves me well but now it's just an expensive ipod. Still contemplating on what I'm going to do.

If I had to pick the LG6 vs the S8, I'd pick the LG6 for 2 reasons.
1) Flat screen
2) Longer battery.
Do I wish the LG6 had the SD835 ?? Of course but I detest edge screens.
My problem is that the 5.8" LG6, with its new aspect ratio has the same width as a 5.5" phone so I'm looking for something bigger.
Heres wishing the V30 will have the same design with a 6.2" screen. Basically make a S8+ with a flat screen and I'll be drooling.

I went ahead and canceled my preorder. Decided I didn't actually need the bonuses, and that I'm gonna just stick with my S7e till it dies.

Got myself a pixel 32gb for $645 and a $350 rebate (monthly reimbursement) from Tmo by bringing it over to their network. I know folks are waiting for the Pixel 2 but this one is fine running Beta 7.1.2 and I got it for about $300. THe lack of storage sucks, but I get unlimited music streaming, and photos go to the cloud anyway.

I was looking at the g6 today since I am still in within the 15 day return window, but I really don't see any advantages of the G6 over the pixel, other than removable storage and a larger screen.

It's funny, as slim as the G6 bezels are, somehow the S8 manages to make them look big.

S8 looks good, but I am also one of those who doesn't need/want the curved edges. I like a pretty substantial case because of the environment the phone is subjected to, which either obviates much of the edge aesthetic, or if not, leaves the phone too vulnerable for my liking.

I was able to play with the G6 earlier this week, haven't held an S8 yet though. The one feature I like about the G6 would be the second wide angle camera. I'm not a power user by any means, so the latest and greatest processor or 6 GB of ram doesn't really matter to me or the wife. The wife needs a new phone, so when we can visit a store to play with the S8 we will decide which one to get for her. I'm not enamored by either Samsung's nor LG's UI skin, so that's a wash I'd prefer stock Android.

I thought I read the LG only uses Gorilla Glass 3? versus the S8's 5. I do wish Samsung would have updated or added a wide angle camera this time around. The wife drops her phone a lot, not much I can do but get her a good case, so the surface finish doesn't really matter. I guess I don't see the LG G6 as being a true competitor to the Samsung, that'd be the LG V30 imho.

I am not interested in Motorola anymore after how her Turbo 2 has been after the Nougat update, the battery life seems like it went to crap and the screen sometimes has response issues when tapping and swiping now. Just out of warranty of course.

I thought I read about the G6 having beveled screen corners under the bezel, which dramatically reduces screen breakage from dropping.

It looks that way but probably not in reality.
Both has the same size screen and the LG6 is a tad bigger width wise but again Samsung, with the curved edges, you lose some real estate width wise. Unless people want to argue that they can tilt the S8 side and side and use the edges. For me I like to look at my phone straight up and the edges are useless. I'm using a S7 edge right now.

There's a big difference between the edges on the S7E compared to the Note 7 though (which is what the S8 is modeled after). The edges on the Note 7 were much better designed than the S7E.

Also it looks like the bottom bezel on the G6 is a little bigger than its top bezel, which really irks me. I really like symmetrical design when it comes to bezel sizes.

but I bet it's still easier to use than an Edge, because you don't have to worry about random touches from your fingers on the side of the phone.

You do realize that the edge feature can be disabled, right? Mine is turned off, as I consider it a gimmick I'll never use. Even when it was on, I never suffered from "random touches."

I'm not talking about the Edge panels, I'm talking about when you're gripping the phone normally and you're trying to tap something, but it won't register the tap because it's sensing your fingers against the part that wraps around the side as a touch on the screen.

It's very irritating because it didn't happen at all on my previous Note 7. The Edge edge touch rejection is just not that good. Hopefully the S8 will be better. I'm probably not going o get one - I'm focusing my attention and financials towards other things and will just use my current S7E till it dies.

Got a Leeco Le Max 2 US version (X829), that got cancelled due the financial issues of them (Leeco) and well... they start to sold on Chinese sites at crazy prices (it cost me USD 189). I didn't believe that a Snapdragon 820 could be sold to that low price.

Well, returning to topic, I got one, then put Lineage OS and put some optimization to the point to get 150K on Antutu and also got very stable in opening most apps (for a very weird reason it can't open Mario Run).

Not joking, I guess Snapdragon 820 won't be moved by no one for at least some years.

And the LG G6 which has Snapdragon 821 won't be a great deal compared to the Leeco right now. Even both has quality 2K screens.

Le eco doesn't work on Verizon. It's a bad buy at any price north of a dollar.

I can't trust LG's build/reliability given all the bootloop issues for past flagships. I also hate that LG is including "exclusive" features for each market. We don't get quad-DAC or 64 GB storage but we get wireless charging? Why not just build one phone with all those features? Anyways, it just is an alright phone, but definitely not on my radar for my 6P replacement.

^^^This^^^

Worse than not having those features is telling people how those features are actually there on some models "but not for you". I guess they're saving the total package for the V series & enthusiasts, but it's galling nonetheless.

It depends on the place. It would be a bad buy on CDMA based operators to godlike on GSM dominated operators.

Also there is the warranty issue. Leeco is slowly stopping to offer it. Still for the price is a great deal.

Well that didn't take long. Looks like T-Mobile and AT&T are offering big discounts on the G6, exactly as predicted.

Never preorder an LG phone.

This literally killed the LG G6 making it into a flop along the HTC Ultra.

At least the G6 has a headphone jack.
But it came overpriced.

The HTC U Ultra came without headphone jack and well.. it didn't ended well...

Seems that this is the worst H1 in terms of phone launchs... Near all of them have critical issues that they are trying to solve. Wondering if the HTC U11 and the Sony Xperia XZ Premium saves this H1 on terms of Phone launchs.

The HTC U Ultra also failed because of the price. They want to charge iPhone/S8 money for that?

Eh, I don't know about that, but the biggest problem with it is that LG has low confidence with consumers right now due to the G4 and V10's solder loosening issues. The G6 actually was supposed to have sold fairly well, but not as well as they expected or hoped, which is why we are seeing the sales now.

The biggest problem is that people put their faith on the LG V30.... But sadly after seeing how the SD 835 is performing... Seems that LG will lose a year... And will depend on the mid tier.

Yes, I had that happen the other day. Couldn't figure out why my taps were not registering. The case I have my 7 Edge runs pretty close to the edges, so it was only by chance my other had was located where it prevented my tap from registering. Yet another thing to have remember about the device. Sigh...
