Not quite a KURO, but still excellent!

Been able to play with my new Panasonic 58V10 for a few days now, and all I can say is wow. I got the TV just before going to Mazatlan for a week and most nights all I could think about was getting back to this TV. I know, I'm a huge nerd...

The Blacks on this TV are just great, not astounding, but great.

Colors are excellent out of the box, I'm going to have a friend calibrate it for me but if I was paying for the calibration I wouldn't even bother.

Anyway, great TV. Thoughts?

And before you say I should have got a Pioneer, I would have had to spend about 2K more for a 6020 or 151FD. I got a great deal on this TV. Thanks Panasonic.

Here are some pics, my camera doesn't do the TV justice.

Good choice...plus finding a KURO is getting hard.

Both the 151 and 6020 in stock where I work. But Pioneer, even when they were still making TVs, wasn't really into employee accommodations.

The sub isn't even hooked up right now, waiting until I'm back in a living situation that lets me have a sub to upgrade and dump this one. The RTI8s are great speakers for the money. My only complaint about them is that the tweets get a bit rough when you crank it. My next speaker purchase will be a center that I can bi-amp or just one with better power handling and an amp to drive it, because right now the fronts are getting 260w each and the center is only getting 130w. A friend of mine that has an all Definitive system compliments how the Polks sound every time his is over.

I don't know if you watch Dexter on showtime but the RTI8 made an appearance last week and I paused the show to point this out to my girlfriend.

I think tonight I might play with the viera cast and see what it's all about.

I'm really not used to this new system.

Not that I was ever used to the old one...

To be fair, the 60" Pioneer KRP-600m is around $2700 shipped, and is equivalent in quality to the Pro-151FD.

The V10 is a good display though.

Apex, where can the KRP-600m be had for $2700 shipped? I haven't had any luck finding it for less than $3500.

Well, for $2700 I could have almost bought 2 of the V10's

Watching in THX mode with the brightness brought down a bit. Eventually get it calibrated, but only because I don't have to pay for it.

First hundred hours or so looped some 1080p material while I was at work, big electric bill. The for about two days ran home high contrast patterns from the HTPC and just solid picture slides when I was around the house.

Honestly though, break-in is a bit overrated if you use the panel for a variety of sources and make sure to use the full screen for most of your viewing initially.

And BTW, this is my 3rd plasma and I get to play with all the major tvs quite often, like every day.

Contrats

I wanted a 58" too but the v10 was out of my price range while the S1 had less picture controls so I settled for the 54" G10. That extra 4" would be nice but I'm more than happy with my choice.

$1400 for a 58V10 is an epic deal.

Employee accommodations

Just gotta work for the right people...

Buy TV on 15mo no payments, sell it after a year, at worst break even.

If I was going to keep the TV for a while I most likely would have just got a Pioneer.
