Every time a thread about memory pops up, people start whining about RAM prices. Get a grip with Economics and then come back to the real world. Supply, demand and then people having to make a profit to stay in business.
RAM prices today are not high. True, they may be higher than what they were before, but they are not high. If you think they are high, either (a) you just came into looking at computer parts in the last 18 months or so and have no knowledge of pricing history or (b) like to complain any time any price rises. The saying used to be "if it's <$1 MB, it's a good deal" then to "if it's < $0.50 MB, it's a good deal." Granted, those are crappy deals now, but you get the point.
The best analogy I can come up with for RAM pricing right now is gasoline. If you need it, you're going to pay the going rate, so what good does it do to complain about it? You cannot control it, so live with it.
With all the talk of any RAM over PC2100, it's too bad that nothing officially supports it all around. I highly doubt much will until DDR2 comes out. I'm not saying it is bad stuff, just the majority of people do not need it and, unless you're overclocking stuff, the general difference in price is not worth it. If it's the same price, great, otherwise PC2100 will work for most.
