It is warm if these are Samsung manf'd memory module. (Samsung on Samsung instead of Samsung RAM chips on generic PCB)

Hopefully the memory prices will drop again... this is rediculous. Any speculation on when (if) the prices will go back?

If you have a Fry's local to you then you can pick up a Mushking PC2700 256MB for $90, the one I got turned out to be Samsung chips on a Samsung PCB (Samsung is etched on the PCB). Fry's / Outpost #3207391. Not the cheapest but you can actually look at the stick before you buy it and you don't have to wait for delivery....

Just FYI: Never buy RAM from Alpha Business International (buyaib.com) They are frauds. I ordered 265mb PC2700 RAM for $50, lol. If the deal sounds too good to be true it is! The RAM turned out to be generic PC2100! Look on reseller ratings... they did it to hundreds of people. If you bought this RAM it probably happened to you too

I understand the consensus is that memory price will be steady until the end of the year and start dropping. If you can't wait 3~4 months, better buy now.

That's pretty fast.

It is fast but not the fastest anymore.

Stupid question, how can you tell if it's a Samsung PCB? I bought a stick of PNY ram from Bestbuy a couple weeks ago and the chips were samsung and in tiny print on the corner of the PCB it said Samsung. Does that mean that I got Smasung on Samsung, or is there some other identifying feature that will tell me?

Really? Does everyone else agree with this? I've been trying to find some info on memory and how prices will change. I just bought a new KT133 mobo.... which takes PC2700 RAM. Although, since I'm not going to overclock it, I'm told there is no performance gain between PC2100 and PC2700. And PC2100 is cheaper... so I'll probably go with 512 of it.

Cougar: Yep you got the good stuff, Samsung on a Samsung PCB. The key is the etching on the corner of the PCB.

Every time a thread about memory pops up, people start whining about RAM prices. Get a grip with Economics and then come back to the real world. Supply, demand and then people having to make a profit to stay in business.

RAM prices today are not high. True, they may be higher than what they were before, but they are not high. If you think they are high, either (a) you just came into looking at computer parts in the last 18 months or so and have no knowledge of pricing history or (b) like to complain any time any price rises. The saying used to be "if it's <$1 MB, it's a good deal" then to "if it's < $0.50 MB, it's a good deal." Granted, those are crappy deals now, but you get the point.

The best analogy I can come up with for RAM pricing right now is gasoline. If you need it, you're going to pay the going rate, so what good does it do to complain about it? You cannot control it, so live with it.

With all the talk of any RAM over PC2100, it's too bad that nothing officially supports it all around. I highly doubt much will until DDR2 comes out. I'm not saying it is bad stuff, just the majority of people do not need it and, unless you're overclocking stuff, the general difference in price is not worth it. If it's the same price, great, otherwise PC2100 will work for most.

Hey, this is AT, remember?

But seriously, though, you're right -- most people don't need PC2700. It's just that with all these super-overclockable P4 1.6As and 1.8As floating around, people are hungry for high performance RAM that can take high clock speeds. Since the Northwoods P4s can easily hit 2.2-2.4GHz with a stock HSF and little or no voltage tweaks, it's pretty common to see people bumping their FSB up to 150+.

I just bought a new KT133

If I'm understanding you right (and I'm not mistaken, I might be), KT133 can only really utilize PC133 RAM. You need to buy a 266/266a board to utilize PC2100...and if you want to go the DDR333 route, i.e. PC2700, you should buy a KT333 board.

Ehh... yeah, Samsung CTL is as good as PC2700 any day. Better in fact! I've been looking all over for CTL, but all I've been seeing is DTL.
