Hello everyone.

I am torn to which LCD panel I should to buy!

I can either buy 1 Dell 24 in 2407 or

2 Samsung 226BW monitors. I have a Nvidia 7950GT video card which is more than enough!

I managed to pick up the Dell for 674 but for just a little more I can have the 2 22 in Samsungs for 773. Any opinons on these monitors??? Feedback is appreciated.

Thanks.

Do you NEED two displays? If so, the choice is obvious. And if you game, your 7950GT will have a much easier time running future games @ 1680x1050 than at 1920x1200.

Is the Dell 2407 that much better? I have read really good reviews on the Samsung 226BW.

I have never used dual monitors before, but with my new job I have too many windows open at once and my productivity would be much higher if I had two monitors.

Do Samsung monitors suck? The 226 has a 2ms response compared to the 6ms the Dell has.

Is that that much more space on the 24 than the 22?

My buddy has a 24 in dell and he loves it! But ever since he's been running Vista he has noticed that his monitor doesn't look that great. Colors are off, text looks like crap, he's going back to XP.

He tested it by dual booting XP and the Dell looks so much better.. It's amazing! Anyone have issues with their monitors visual quality and vista?

I'd go with the dell... since, well, that's what I did last night. Should be here in several days.

If its more for work, I'd get 2x226BW. If its more for personal gaming/entertainment, I'd go with the 2407. As others mentioned though, 7950GT is going to have trouble pushing 1920x1200 in some current and future games.

The Dell is twice the price of the Samsung.

It's like trying to choose between a Honda Civic and Honda Accord. Both are (arguably) very good in their classes, but you can't really compare them.

It all depends on your budget. There is no doubt the Dell 2407 is a better monitor than the Samsung 226, but the 22-inch Samsung might be enough for your needs.

Each monitor should be compared with other monitors in the same class. 22-inch TN with 22-inch TN / 24-inch *VA with 24-inch *VA

The latest revision Dell 24" LCD monitor's might very well be one of the finest monitors ever made, and Dell has a few monitors on that list IMHO.

24" of screen real estate is one of the things in life that you should be saving for at almost any cost (eat top ramen and hot dogs for as long as it takes.!)

Having 2 of the Samsungs would be a great pleasure too I think, and certainly would make work much more pleasurable for you! I remember when work treated me to a Dell 24" monitor, I was floored then and am still floored every day I go in and move my mouse to fire up that screen!

I just got the Gateway 24" and it's a very good monitor and from what I've read very comparable to the Dell 2407wfp.

Dont skimp yourself with a 22" TN, you'll only regret it down the road.

Yeah I had the Gateway 24, what I didn't like was the bleeding on the top, bottom and the totally pointless controls that are touch sensitive. You can actually see bleeding of the blue lights through the panel on a black screen.

However it did have a great picture. Bright as hell.

I am actually using the 2407 at the moment and I like it. The desktop looks better on XP than Vista though. I am just assuming the drivers are better opt. on XP than Vista.

SO... What's the difference on a TN and VA panel. Have no clue here... Newbie!

Every day I thank my lucky stars that my Gateway was perfect right out of the box first try. Uniform backlight and no dead pixels. Also havent noticed the menu lights bleeding onto the screen ad I have tested the black levels extensively.

I do however agree with you that the controls suck donkey gonads. Boy do I miss my Dell 2007wfp controls.

The Dell and Gateway actually use S-PVA panels that are superior to TN panels in every respect except response time. IPS and PVA/MVA panels offer better viewing angles, truer colors, higher contrast ratio and IMO just an overall better picture.

Enjoy the 24" goodness my friend, I know I am.

Only thing that sucks is that I'm currently using my PC for homework, web surfing, etc.. and not gaming. All my gaming is done on my 24" on my XBOX 360 via VGA cable. If I wanna start PC gaming again when Quake Wars and Crysis arrive, it's going to take another $500 to drive this monitor at 1920x1200 with the settings I like.

I am glad your Gateway is running nice dude. Everyone keeps telling me that my 7950GT 512MB is not enough to push my 24 dell... I thought that my video card was a high end one... Oh well. You can't keep up with technology.

I want another 24in dell so bad, but to spend another 600 bucks just hurts right now.

Anyone have or know of a good monitor tuning program to calibrate LCD's?

Well, your 7950GT is not enough to push 1680x1050 with AA and what not on. Heck, I don't think I could run Oblivion the way I do at 1280x960 at that res on my 7950GT. It is a high end card, but only to a certain point.

Essentially, 'nothing' will ever be enough to push any monitor over 19" at max/high settings for long. Using that logic, everyone should spend $600 every 6 months or just buy a 19"WS or stick with 4:3. However, you can always scale stuff down and most 24" (Dell A04 at least, not sure about others) has 1:1 scaling. Running at native resolution is amazing, but no one said you can't go down. I'm about to get one (waiting for sale), just hope the 2407 can fill the screen nicely at other 16:10 resolutions or at least be better than running 4:3 on my 5:4 monitor.

Do you know what the latest revision number is, and the type of panel they use for that revision?

The Latest revision is A04 and it still uses the S-PVA panel.

Supposedly they fixed a bunch of issues with Rev A04. I'm not exactly sure what the "issues" were with earlier revisions, but I know that Rev A04 added 1:1 pixel mapping.

At work i have 2 19 inch monitors and i can't imagine going to only one. At home in my bedroom/office I have one dell 2407 and i can't imagine going to two smaller monitors.

my needs at home vs work are so different I would want one option for both places.

Clearly you need two 2407's at home
