From a logical perspective, a vasectomy makes a ton of sense.

Putting logic aside for the moment, I've had a lot of good times with my penis and testicles. We were best of friends before I met my wife, and we still get time to hang out occasionally after the wife and kids are asleep. The thought of anyone harming that relationship or interfering in any way is a scary one. Sure, it's not likely that the doctor sneezes mid-procedure, but is that a risk I'm willing to take?

In all seriousness, I'll probably get one within the next couple years.

Sounds about right. Logically I should get one. Emotionally it makes my balls try to crawl up inside my stomach for protection

See post earlier on the success rates of reversal

Those numbers aren't set in stone by the way. A lot of factors go into it, particularly how quickly your immune system decides to start eating up your sperm since it has no where to go. Once that happens, the odds of successful reversal go down to next to 0%, regardless of how long you wait.

For some people, this happens in as little as a couple years.

You should knock up some random woman before going through with this. You should leave this world with an heir to carry on your legacy. If you decide later on that you do want kids and your wife still does not, then you're covered.

A vasectomy is your choice not hers. There is never a guarantee with such a surgery. Hell of a decision. How is it being a eunich?

I did actually mention something like this to her (adding that it would be a shame to deprive the world of such a superior stock of human genes). She only rolled her eyes instead of stabbing me so I think that means I am good to go

As it should; why asked her for a fully invasive surgery when for you it is a 10 minute outpatient visit.

And what kind of woman would ask a man to undergo surgery on such an important part of himself, when she could get a simple IUD that requires no surgery and is easily reversible?

Taking into account the harm done to the human body by a woman having her tubes tied versus the man getting snipped, it's no contest, the vasectomy is a much less body altering operation.

Rate of complications for vasectomy is lower, and if something goes wrong with an IUD (about 1/1000 will actually puncture the uterus) you need abdominal surgery to fish 'em out. To say nothing of potential infections. It's nasty stuff.

Of course, to answer your question, "A women who doesn't like her husband's nuts very much."

Actually... :whiste:

Many a doctor will require consent from the spouse before proceeding with a vasectomy.

Yeah, go figure.

You think the wife wants a chance for the man to full around undetected

Also, I can see it if they have no children that she is informed. consent is a different thing - let the pair has it out.

He reduces the chance that some gold-digger will show up and ask for support.

Uh... no, not informed. Consent. My wife had to sign off before I could get mine with both doctors (was supposed to get one several years ago before we moved, it was informed on the consult that should would need to be with me as well as sign the release).

Meanwhile, my wife was asked numerous times during the births of our children (all C-Sections, so ya know, while we're in there...) whether SHE wanted her tubes tied. I'm pretty sure had she said yes, the docs would never have batted an eyelash and consulted ME on the topic at all.

Wow that is crazy and sexist. Women are allowed to kill a man's baby without his consent, but a man need's a women's consent to have his tubes cut.
