Not very impressed with BFG6800GT Overclockability

I have the bfg6800gt OC and mine doesn't seem to overclock very well.
Raising it just slightly creates artifacts in games like far cry and so on.
I just installed a nv5 silencer on it and the temps are running nice and cool.

Do some cards overclock better than others?

I'm using the 66.93 drivers, do different drivers preform better?

Anyone else seeing poor overclocks from this card or is it just me

Thanks

it comes overclocked, you know.

yes, some cards are good overclockers, some aren't. it isn't always a cooling issue. sometimes it just depends on the quality of the card you bought, which boils down to luck.

How terrible. You only got what you paid for.
It's really terrible how companies these days think they can get away with only giving us what we pay for, I want something for nothing, damnit!

You're not going to believe this m21s, but I bought a liter of JimBeam bourbon the other day, and you know what was in it??!?!?!?!

One goddam* liter of Jim Beam bourbon! I was hoping for at least 1.25l!

Is there someone we can write to and complain?! Start a class action suit?!?!

News for you m21s:
Not only do some cards OC better than others, some cards are damaged by OCing. You'd never return a card you damaged after you voided the warranty by OCing and changing the HSF though I'm sure.

You'd just whip out another $400 and say, "The chance for that extra 10% was well worth $400, but not the extra $100 to buy stock.", right?

while Rollo isn't making any friends with his posts, I do agree... who cares if the card doesn't OC well... it if works at stock speeds, that's what it's meant to do.

I went to Ultra speeds with my eVGA and I am happy... although I wouldn't be upset if it didn't OC at all... fact is, it's a powerful enough card anyways.. but OCing prowess just happens to be good, which is cool.

A lot of it depends on hardware too. If your powersupply can't supply the ample power to cover for your extra periphials, your card won't overclock highly or to your expectations. cooling can be a factor too. There's a lot that can stop anything from overclocking well. Make sure you have high quality components and cooling, then you "shouldn't" have a problem.

Because I'm evil.....

Seriously, the thread is sort of whack. There's no justification to complain when you don't get something for nothing, even if others do.

All he's done is say "BFG6800GTs aren't OCable". What did he do to raise the potential? Did he add a Silencer? Does he water cool? Does he have a slot fan blowing on it? Does he have a OCer case with many fans and much airflow? Cleared out the cards around it? Flash the bios? Overvolt it?

Who knows? All he tells us is that he's disappointed in the bad OCing, and wants help.

Lets make Rollo HAPPY Shall we,

Added a NV-5 Silencer DONE
Cleared out all spots around card DONE
4 fans in my case cooling including the 2 PSU fans DONE

So this is why im asking the question Rollo.
Is there anything else OTHER people are doing to get better results.

Obviously your not an overclocker so why are you even replying in this thread?

That's not true- I ran my 5800NU at 500/500 instead of 400/400, and I ran my 6800NU at 16/6, 350/800 instead of 15/5, 325/700.
I don't OC my X800 XT PE because it's even more pointless than OC an OCd BFG6800GT OC.

BTW- pay off my student loans if you want to make me happy.

Given your fine hardware, your artifacting, I'd say watercooling is your best option. I'm not a huge fan of raising voltage. I wouldn't worry about it though- your card is stock OCd and Ultra speed isn't going to add any performance you'd notice.

Judging by the quality of your posts tonight. There is NOT 1 liter left in that bottle!

Joking!

damn rollo. he said he was not impressed with its ocing ability. he said nothing of being unhappy, or returning it. geez....

i only have an evga6800nu, but i can say that different drivers will allow for different ocs. im currently at 410/850(can run stable at 420/870, but i like to back it down from max) using 71.20 drivers. the last i had (cant recall exactly now) would top out at 375/800ish. this is using the coolbits hack via nvhardpage.

maybe try ocing with rivatuner or some other 3rd party program.

All right- I probably should have had some of the Jim Beam tonite.

m21s- you have my sincere apology for questioning your motives. Good luck in your quest.

m21s, your missing Rollo's point...Is it worth burning out a $400 card for a 10 +/- gain ?....

So you bought a card that had the term "OVERCLOCKED" in the title and thought it was suppose to be on par with Gainwind Golden Sample 6800GT ?

OWNED
