not working cpu memory channel

I found a cpu on ebay its lga1366 for half a price but with not working channel A memory but working B and C and some surfice scratches. I wonder if its a good deal and if anyone can tell me from experience whether it can fail afterwards or die on its own. Btw i dont know have idea how the damage occured.

Bad deal. If it's that broken, something else is likely to be wrong with it. Might even take your motherboard out too.

I have never heard of a cpu with this type of issue before. Normally the problem is in the motherboard. Either pins in the socket are bent or pins in the memory slots are bent.
You need to see the bottom of the cpu. Sometimes little capacitors on the bottom get broken and cause problems, or I guess it's possible the cpu was used in a bad board, (bent socket pins), and that fried something.
As other said, best to pass on this since you don't know what really is the issue. 1366 cpus are cheap and plentiful on ebay, etc.

Better not take the risk.

Even if you get it to work, it might produce erroneous results.
Slowly corrupting all your data and your windows gets weird driver problems over time.
You would be busy for days trying to check if it is trustworthy.
Not worth it.

That guy's had that chip for months. If I recall, it has been dropped and part of a contact pad is missing. Current prices aren't that bad for LGA1366 hexcores, so I wouldn't bother with it. If you really just need a cpu, I have a Xeon E5540 sitting here you can have for the postage.

Just for an update, I bought the CPU it's a Xeon X5670 6 Core and it came about a month ago. Physically the cpu hasn't any damaged pins just scratches on the heat spreader. The first time i inserted the cpu, the whole system did not post but after restart it posted, but then comes an error of failed overclocking that i'am pretty sure comes from my board, i can pass the error but i have to enter the BIOS and exit without saving anything and if i restart the system it doesn't post until a seccond restart. Except this the CPU is recognized and it's working just fine. I've done some testing with prime95 with small ftts for an hour,a lot of gaming and it is working great without any crashes or driver problems. Strange thing is that when i overclock the CPU even a tiny beat the board posts correctly without the failed overclocking issue which is great, btw the cpu is a great overclocker, mine is clocked at 3.93Ghz with Turbo enabled which is great given the fact that i have CM412S. To sum up the gamble was worth it and at the end working x5670 for 50$ cannot be beaten no matter what. Cheers

Yeah i was gonna say, you can get a fully functional one for like $60-70.
