To be fair, there are different customer targets out there.
Someone like my wife, *if* she ever got a smartphone I would probably steer her toward an iPhone (or simply upgrade her 4th gen iPod Touch). Nice IQ and it does as much as possible for her.
For me, not only do I want good image quality, but I will work to get better photos (move around, get higher/lower, watch the backgrounds, change settings going for different effects) and as well, I don't mind a small amount of post capture tinkering.
For nearly every good shot I get, there is at the least some minor reframing/cropping (having the Nokia 5/20mp reframing is pretty handy there), and maybe some exposure/color, tweaking. Maybe highlights/shadows, clarity/contrast, etc.
Of course, being able to do all that on your phone nowadays is a godsend. Few minutes here and there and most of the work is done for me.
