http://www.phonearena.com/news/Samsung-Galaxy-Note-6-to-be-launched-in-the-US-in-mid-August_id81002

Mid-August launch which is inline with last year's timing.

Current rumors have it that the Samsung Galaxy Note 6 will be water-resistant, sporting a 5.8-inch Quad HD (1440 x 2560 pixels) display, and being powered by a Snapdragon 823, or an Exynos 8890 processor. The upcoming phablet should further offer 6 GB of RAM, USB Type-C port, a 12 MP rear camera (probably similar to the camera we can find on the Galaxy S7 series), and a battery of at least 4,000 mAh

Nothing really new or solid and sounds mostly like guesswork.

I would like to see the Note series going back to its root even if it takes plastic. That means removable battery and storage. More ruggedness than fragility in its appearance and construction. Until a smartphones have a battery life like the Kindle e-Reader, there is a place for removable battery.

^ Couldn't agree more. The Note series to me, shouldn't have veered off into trying for the fashion statement look (which in reality no one really gives a hoot about anyway- ohhh, is your phone a mm thinner than the last one you had???! WOW!! I'm just SO impressed with your fashion...!) and kept on being more about real world usefulness.

I'd love to see them go back to basics with removable battery- but I know that ship has sailed.

As for the plastic back- Man, I'd WELCOME it over stupid glass any day of the week. As I type this, I just set my Note 4 at a slant on a pillow near where I'm sitting- the nice grippy back means it just stays put, even on a slant on a smooth surface. A stupid glass back would make it slide off even without the slant.

The grip in my hand feels nice. I have 4 aftermarket backs for my N4 and so I can change up the look/feel/color of it now and then according to my prefs. The design of the N4 was near perfect IMO, it could simply be refined more and make for the best combination of features as well as a no-nonsense, sleek look that means business, not looking like a gumdrop toy.

I just popped a brand new battery in this N4 and it's as if it was the day I bought it as far as battery life- the whole issue of battery life becomes almost moot when they are so easily (and logically!) swappable.

I doubt we'll get any of this back though- ship seems to have sailed. Even if no removable back/batter, I do wish Samsung would consider a better, easily gripped, non-slick surface for the back of the device. That used to be a no-brainer, but has since given way to a silly notion of 'premium' trumping an obvious function.

Latest rumor says Samsung will skip the 6 numbering and go straight to Note 7 this year to have parity with the Galaxy S line as to not confuse consumers. I don't think that's really necessary, but it doesn't really bother me.

My husband is currently using my old Note 4 & I'm playing with an S7, eager to see the Note 6, S7 is a lovely phone but I am a phablet gal & miss the bigger screen & S Pen.

That's a ridiculous idea.

Once it gets Marshmallow the Note 4 should be good for me for a few more years.

I wonder if the Note 6 will be Daydream certified? While it wouldn't be a huge deal if it wasn't, it would push me more towards this year's Nexus instead.

I have found that sometimes I have provided inadvertent inputs when using a Note 4 which has smallish side bezels when reaching with my thumb.

A case solved that. I'm not that desirous of small bezels not because I think they don't look good. It's just that I put a case on any smartphone. I'd even put one on something like an LG V10 which is supposed to have mil-spec drop resistance.

I think at least an sd card expansion, with a huuuge battery (maybe 4k mAh), and a Qualcom 820 soc for variants that don't come with exynos (assuming of course they fixed the heat caused throttling).

Those would make me think about upgrading. Don't drastically increase the screen resolution just because a larger batter is in the phone, or at least offer different screen resolutions.

And I would be perfectly happy with that. I passed up on the Note 5 because of the lack of msd, I also bypassed the S6 series as well for the same reason. Recently got the S7 Edge and love it, but may go back to the Note series if they put back the msd. Also, they would need to bump the screen to 6". I miss the pen and actually used it quite a bit.
I also skipped the Note 5 due to the lack of the msd slot. I also made the jump from the Note 4 to the S7 edge, and just love the S7E. I thought I would miss being able to swap batteries, but I don't. The 3600 mAh battery in the S7E does the job and then some.

For me to get the Note 7, I would need a 6 inch screen, a 4000 mAh battery, and the return of the msd to the Note line. I might take a look at the iPhone too, as it will have an Oled screen this time around.

Silly if they don't just call it the Note 6. But really, they can call it the note 19 or any random number for all I care, so long as it's a great device.

6GB of memory seem close to certain considering Samsung's production of 10nm 6GB memory modules along with a few other OEMs introducing phones with that much memory.

I don't have any issues with the memory on the Note 5 myself, but the more the merrier. And the newer process should mean the same or lower power draw than the current 4GB module.

I'll be seriously considering the new Note, although I hope Samsung brings out an Active version of the S7 that ditches all the glass but retains the rest of the good stuff.

Will also be thinking about an iPhone if they go AMOLED. I'd love for Apple to try to compete with the Note line by making the + support the pencil (and come up with a new more svelte one that can stow into the device).

I'm sure it going up against iPhone 7 has nothing to do with it. I do think it kinda makes sense, but at the same time, I think the industry should adopt the year name, especially if these are going to be long running platforms.

New rumor is that it will be only offered as an edge model. That will be very disheartening if true. The edges are not useful enough yet to be a mandatory feature.

BTW, love this concept design.

Apologies in advance to some that the concept of 'future device!' isn't something from 2009.

Can't wait to replace my Note 3. I don't want an Edge model though.

Looks like I might not buy another Samsung phone if that's the case. Hopefully ASUS or Sony (yea right...) can come up with a similar device without the useless "edge" display.

I don't play any real games, can't really see a need to replace my note 4. It's unlocked, rooted, running a great debloated rom, compatible with my VR, I have 32gb+64gb. I have a few extra batteries and separate wall charger for those. I have IR remote which I use all the time.

I'm running 50 tabs in chrome and firefox with no real slow down. I'm still on 5.1.1 getting great battery life, no wake locks. I don't even see a need for 6.0 or another phone.

I don't really play games so there is nothing pushing it. I hoping I'll be good for 3 or 4 more years.

All I really care about is a decent DAC. I am sure the screen will be great, pretty sure they will put back msd and all but they really need a good DAC. Love my S7 edge but the DAC is pretty weak.

I'd personally take an optimized Exynos SOC over the S820 variant as I don't do 3D games and the better battery life and better optimizations are more valuable to me. But I do expect the US variants to continue to come with a QC SOC.

The edge screen is a wash for me - I don't need it or dislike it. I will take the more compact dimensions or bigger screen in the current size benefit.
