I don't play any real games, can't really see a need to replace my note 4. It's unlocked, rooted, running a great debloated rom, compatible with my VR, I have 32gb+64gb. I have a few extra batteries and separate wall charger for those. I have IR remote which I use all the time.

I'm running 50 tabs in chrome and firefox with no real slow down. I'm still on 5.1.1 getting great battery life, no wake locks. I don't even see a need for 6.0 or another phone.

I don't really play games so there is nothing pushing it. I hoping I'll be good for 3 or 4 more years.

I would say the same about my Note 3 (and its awesome USB 3 connector/transfer rates), which I bought new for $200 and those days are over... but I've also dropped it a couple times and now the glass looks like I did a terrible job of putting a screen protector on it. Next Note better have USB C at least. And a good promo at launch.

http://www.sammobile.com/2016/06/29...ve-a-3600-mah-battery-reiterates-leaks-specs/

So a month away, there seems to be rumor consensus that it'll be named the Note 7, there will be 1 edge type variant only and it'll be heavily specced (higher clocked SOCs, 6GB RAM, IP68, mSD, etc).

There is disagreement on the battery - some rumors say 3600mAh while others say 4000mAh. I was hoping for the latter but the S7 Edge certainly has great battery life and the s-pen does take up interior volume.

There is also a growing belief that 64GB will be the base storage which would be awesome. That + mSD support where I can throw in my 200GB card for media is all I need. This will allow them to differentiate from the iPhone which is expected to move to 32GB base as well as most other Android OEMs.

Iris scanner also seems to be confirmed, as it's been rumored multiple times including in that rumor. If it works as fast and reliably as I picture it, it will be really cool. Combined with the fingerprint scanner, it would make for some really hassle-free security. But I still want that ultrasonic fingerprint scanner Qualcomm announced that has yet to materialize.

64GB is nice. Anything less would be kinda insulting for a 2016 flagship IMO. Unfortunately, according to that rumor, that's going to be it for a lot of people. 128GB might be available but rare. It'll probably be the same situation as the Galaxy S7 which is only available at 32GB for many people. That's a big step backward from the S6 where 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB are all available. The microSD slot shouldn't just replace the internal memory like that. Why limit people's choices? Don't they make a lot of extra profit selling the higher capacities anyway? I don't get it.

Concerning the battery, 3600mAh is probably correct and not 4000. Even so, that's still the biggest Note battery yet by a fair amount, so no complaint from me.

I'd be shocked if the iris scanner works very well, but maybe. Seems like one of those features that gets tacked on to sound cool, but in the end the execution isn't that good. The eye tracking Samsung used in the past didn't work at all if I was wearing glasses, and was still squirrely without them.

Wasn't that based on detecting motion? It was clunky indeed. Never used it.
Yeah, glasses wearers will likely have problems.
It's supposed to use both your eyes and face for recognition like Windows Hello shown here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMdVHDqJsEs

It seems quite reliable and almost as fast as I want. One of the comments said that you can do initial scans with and without glasses, and it works for both afterwards so that shouldn't be a problem.

Speaking of which, the supposed front panel was leaked today:

It confirms the iris/face scanner. But what I think is interesting is how small the top bezel is. Maybe not even enough for the Samsung logo...? Probably wishful thinking.

BTW, love this concept design.

Apologies in advance to some that the concept of 'future device!' isn't something from 2009.

That thing looks like it would snap like a pita chip.

Samsung has always gone with symmetrically sized bezels, I think it may just be the angle in that picture. I imagine they will continue with same sized bezels for the top and bottom.

Not removable = deal breaker

I just had to pay a ridiculous amount to replace the battery on my Tab4. I don't know how people put up with that on phones.

Maybe I don't keep my devices long enough, but I have never had to replace a battery in any device. I definitely see the merits of being able to simply replace the battery, but I guess until it becomes an issue for me, I can live with phones not having replaceable ones.

In my case, I always just carry a spare in case it runs low. My phone only gets plugged in at night. It's amusing going to conventions and seeing iphones plugged into those portable battery packs or people tethered to an outlet.

Yeah, I experienced this the other day. Flew out to Indianapolis for the day to meet a doctor. I have an S7 and the battery was running low, so I ended up plugging in my phone in the room while I waited for the doctor. Fast charging had me back up to full before the doctor even made it in the room, but I did have to carry my cable with me to do that. A replaceable battery would have been more convenient no doubt.

Just picked up a like new Note 5 for my wife -- amazing phone for $315. Only issue is lack of an SD card. She loves the S-Pen crap (girls...)

If Verizon comes out with some BOGO promotion for the note 7 we'll be all over it. Only thing the 5 is missing for me is water proof and SD card. I like the 5.7" size surprisingly. Currently on an Galaxy S5, Note 7 is my next phone if I can get a deal.

I replaced a swelling, malfunctioning battery in my Note 4 in March. But that was completely my fault for letting it overheat and getting damaged like that. Besides that, I've never had to replace a battery. So while a removable battery would be really nice, the lack of it would not stop me from buying a particular phone.

3 weeks to go. New photo leak today that corroborates with the press render from almost 2 weeks ago, so this is likely to be the actual design. The edges appear to be a bit more subtle than previous edge models.

It was long rumored to have 6GB of RAM but several recent Geekbench runs have it at 4GB. *shrugs*

There was also a rumor of a 6" screen based on import tracker data. Seemed kinda sudden and out there after all the 5.7/5.8" rumors, but I'm thinking it's a possibility. Samsung has taken a liking to releasing dual flagships, so maybe this 6" device is a 2nd phone that will be announced along with the Note 7, possibly the S7 edge plus with that 4000mAh battery that has confused leaksters.

Yeah seems odd all the 4GB benches coming in when Samsung is the one making those 6GB 10nm memory modules.

It does seem like the US is going to get the S821 which is slightly a bummer but not unexpected.

New rumor is that it will be only offered as an edge model. That will be very disheartening if true. The edges are not useful enough yet to be a mandatory feature.

This is a terrible direction Samsung is going. I have the S7 Edge and while its a beautiful phone to look at, the edge is useless. To me, its losing .1" of screen space on each side.

While I don't mind the edge on the S7, I don't like the idea of the edge on a Note because you want a full flat surface for maximum writing space.

I could see them using the edges more like the original Note Edge - to be a sort of toolbar when using the s-pen while having the full flat area to write.

Interesting if true - Samsung has been getting their actual releases closer and closer to their announcements and this would maximize the time the Note would be on sale before the iPhone 7 comes out. Makes me have to reconsider my Note 5 sales timing as I'm used to selling it once I know the actual availability date.

I think this has high likelihood - beyond the need to jump the iPhone 7 base storage increase, the BOM difference for Samsung would be tiny and it makes for good press and differentiation.

http://www.phonearena.com/news/Ther...Note-7-may-come-with-Android-7-Nougat_id83310

This is much less likely due to timing but would be pretty amazing if it happened.

7 and 7 would be amazing. Hopefully this is true.

With the announcement coming tomorrow, anyone considering pre-ordering if it's in line with the S7 edge?

Looks pretty sweet to me! The edge screen is something I had hoped for on the Note. Though it's a little silly to me if they don't also make a non-edge version as well.

Pretty much no question this will be my next phone. The non-removable battery will just be something I have to get used to, but it's not like I can get that with very many other phones anyway. Long as SD is back and I can put massive camera/media storage in it, I'm golden.
