do you think that would be a good notebook to buy. I'm thinking about getting one and those prices are looking good. Is it worth the money for the clereon 1.33 note book.

So does anyone have any suggestions as to which of these notebooks are good buys? Thanks.

It seems to be that it would be 649 AR + tax (799 - 100 MIR - 50 MIR), right?

Just to let you guys know, the Celeron 1.33 Sotec/Avertec notebook performs actually fairly well. Given that it's based on the Tualatin core, you have 256KB of cache and same level associative set as the Pentium III Coppermine. So basically the newer P3-Celerons (or defective Pentiums 3's as I like to call them) are more or less .13u version of the Pentium III coppermine chips.

I saw the Avaretec 1.3GHz Celeron Notebook at BestBuy yesterday. It is smaller than most notebooks -- I think it has 12-inch screen compared to 14-inches on most notebooks. But smaller can actually be better. Like MP3 players, the smaller it is the more you tend to carry it around.

Bought a HP notebook from BB for $750 AR a week ago.

Be ready for a high pressure close!!!! They will try to up sell you every thing from battery plans, screen warranties, UPSs, you name it they will throw it at you when you check up. They use a "checkout specialist" who will not let you leave the store without spending more $$$. Checking out took 20 minutes.

My advice if you can't say No and mean it, STAY AWAY from BB!!!!!!!!!!

Any one else been "Best Buy'd" lately???

But Best Buy is no commision so they don't pressure you to buy anything right? At least that the line they use to get you in the door... heh heh.

no commision on the product... but they get commission on each of the warranties and such that they manage to sell u. they probably call it a bonus or something instead, so they techincally don't give any commission. pretty dumb if u ask me. (btw, i know this cuz one of my roommates used to work at BB)

Also I left this out: Linkie 2.

AVERATEC, Inc., previously SOTEC America, an emerging leader in innovative computing products, today announced a bold addition to their thin and light notebook family that directly targets the active user's needs, without straining their wallet. The 3150 notebook series carries the new AMD Mobile Athlon XP-M processor, sporting USB 2.0 ports, and running Windows XP Home or Windows XP Professional. One model also features built-in wireless LAN.

Just incase anyone was wondering...

well, the day this was posted they had a $150 rebate instead of $100 (plus the other $50), that's why it could've been $599

True. But I don't know if they had 18-month interest free the last time. With NY state tax, it will come out to $39.27 a month for 18 months. That might offset the $50 difference if they didn't have 18-month interest free.

Yeah, I've been Best Buy'd too when I bought my digicam. Pretty heavy on the warranty sales pitch, etc. I let him blabber on (poor guy just trying to make a living -- my wife works in retail too so I understand) and say "no, thanks" every chance I get.

Yeah thy got me with one of those warreties on my old computer. it was $200 for three years. The sad thing is nothing ever happend to that computer. now that i learned to build my own I will never get another warrenty from them ever again. I tryied to say no but he made me feel like the computer might break as soon as i leave the store, so i just gave in. He pressured me for like 30 minutes

I was just telling him why the previous guy said $599...but no interest free is pretty nice (though I never use it).

Yeah, I was thinking along the same lines. I was thinking I missed out on the $599 deal the week before this week which is now $649. But then I noticed the 18-month interest free that's a consolation I think is worth the $50...
