Notebook battery charging problem

I do not know what triggered this but a few days ago when I unplugged the AC wire from the notebook (currently the notebook is in "always on" state) Windows "frantically screamed" that my battery's life is very low. In fact it was 0 per cent. I quickly reconnected the wire, surprised that the battery was not fully charged. However, now the battery life still remains at 0 per cent and it just doesn't charge.. I just don't know why the battery suddenly stopped charging with the AC adapter and the notebook being switched on...

Anyone has any ideas about this?

By the way, it is a presario v2000 notebook.. if that helps in any way.

Is there a battery indicator button on the battery that you can press to see how much battery life is really left? Give that a shot if there is. That should let you know how much life is really left on the battery.

I'd check the AC adapter and make sure that it's working properly as well. At work we had a similar incedent last week and were able to solve it my replacing the power adapter.

Remove the battery completely, and run the laptop on the A/C adapter only. If it boots and runs, then you know you simply have an uncharged battery. That leaves two possibilities.

1. The battery has lived and died.

2. The laptop's charging circuit is fried.

Usually it is the battery. Nominal laptop battery life is 3 years give or take, depending on usage, and how it has been used.

I second corkyg. Having had a battery do the exact same thing to me after 2 years of use. Sometimes they just die, and usually if they die suddenly like your's did, it's the charging circuit. But regardless of the reason, might as well chuck it away, because you ain't fixin' it.
