I just want to point out this deal, it's in this weeks ad. Fellowes Notebook Cable Lock for $24.99 - $15 MIR = $9.99. Pretty good price I think since most cable locks I've seen at all the stores is around $30.

With all the nice laptop deals going on I'm sure a security cable is much needed.

Most notebooks usually have a little notch in them where you can stick one of these cable lock devices in and then you wrap the steel cord around a sufficiently immobile object like a table thats nailed to the floor or something.

I'm sure that if you leave your laptop alone, much like a car, someone is willing to vandalize it and would feel suffice enough doing so if it wasn't stealable . Hate to come back to a smashed lcd screen .

This is still a good way to at least prevent theft. Even if the computer gets a little vandalized, all your data should still be there on the hard drive. Plus, for $10 it's a great prevention method.

Is there even reason to leave your laptop in a public place?!

You're working on your laptop in a cafe, or in the school library.

Before you set down to work, you cable lock your computer to the leg of the table, or to the lamp that's bolted to your library table.

You can now freely use the restroom, make photocopies, leave to make phonecalls, etc., without worry that someone will quickly swipe it.

Yes, someone can still cut through the cable if they wanted, but there are enough people around that such activity would arouse suspicion.

This is not a far-fetched scenario, and in it, a cable lock would be just dandy.

You probably use this in a cheap motel or if you live in a high crime area. Course in those areas crooks probably bring their own tools.
