Im lookin at a studio xps 16 for College. The base cpu is a c2d p8600 with 2.4 ghz/1066 3mb cache or for 175 bucks more I can get the c2d p9550 6mb cache/2.66/1066.

Do you think its work upgrading to the better processor. Im trying to make this laptop last through college.

I use photoshop, game slightly, and use a few cpu intensive apps.

If you have the extra cash go for it and enjoy, you'll only really see/notice the difference in apps that use the additional L2 cache.

Don't forget you can always upgrade the CPU yourself these days by buying one off of eBay or the likes.

I wouldn't upgrade. Dell has good deals at times, but its upgrade prices are often ripoffs. I think the market difference between these 2 CPUs is about $100. Also, P8600 is 25W TDP, and T9550 is 35W, so the battery life will be slightly better with P8600.

But he said it was the P9550. P series is generally a 25watt product.

I noticed he said P9550, but if you go to Dell's website you will find out that they only have T9550, so I had assumed it was a typo. P9550 doesn't exist actually.
