What notebook are you using?
Do you run Linux on it?
Which one would you reccomend?
Are there any good finance schemes?
Is a price tag of $2000+ justified?

1. IBM Thinkpad A30
2. No, but I want to soon, IBM have one of the best compatibility records with Linux out of all laptops availible.
3. If you want value, Dell or Toshiba, if you want quality, IBM, also depends on what segment your looking into (Thin & light, Desktop Replacement, Office machine Workstation etc)

5. If the market can bear the price, then yes. A lot of the time, your paying marked up prices for luxury items (the very fastest CPU, a combo drive, Zip drives, Flash memory)
you can cut down a large chunk of this price without reducing functionality drastically.

what do you mean by quality?

I was thinking about getting a
P4-1.2GHz +
512 MB (or atleast 256)
1280x1024 screen atleast
DVD/CDRW combo drive
30 GB plus HDD

For IBM this tag goes beyond 3K USD.
For Dell/Toshiba/Sony its around 2.5K

Is it worth it?

My current desktop is a P3-900Mhz 512MB TNT2
