What do you mean put notes whereever you want? I was using Office Word just fine for my classes... although i would need to spend some time afterclass to format them properly... but that actually helped with my memorization and understanding of the stuff, since it forces me to re-read my notes right after class.

I'm not sure what you're saying... anywhere on your laptop desktop? You can get a Post-It program called Stickies. It's pretty good for jotting down random notes. Otherwise, I always use MS Word to take notes.

thanks for the replies
what i was hoping for was function of a tablet PC but with a keyboard
like i was wondering if there were a software like that available?
that i can just say click on an area and start typing from there

i want a keybaord cuz i can type faster than i can write (nearly 2x) not to mention i cant read my writing properly
i was looking at an ibm thinkpad X31 very light 1.6kg

but if i can find a software good for this sort of purpose then it would be really good..
ms office..... u can just double click and write but then...

its hard to organise like

-------------> then decided to type here 2nd

type here 1.

etc
cuz in lectures things don't always come in order and need to make notes on the side of notes if u know what i mean....

but any more suggestions would be appreciated
thx

There are Tablet PCs that have a keyboard. I have a Toshiba 3500 and it looks just like a laptop, but you have the additional feature of being able to write on the screen. TPCs are divided into slate and convertible types. The slates don't have a keyboard (but you could add a USB keyboard if you wanted). The convertibles are like laptops - they have a screen and a keyboard.
