Hey guys,

I have a computer with Windows 2000 using Netware to login into the Novell server. I was wondering how I would have multiple users have the same profile. Right now the windows login is using a domain server and each time a new user logins a profile is stored (C:\Documents and Settings\User X). I don't want any user profile to be created. In other words all users will have only one profile. Thanks for the help!

you can't have the users all login with the same username? that would be the easiest solution

I don't understand the question. Netware doesn't have anything to do with it. When an NT4/W2K/XP computer logs in, it creates a profile on the drive. This is so each person that logs in can have their own personal settings, IE bookmarks, Desktop, etc.

This is a Windows thing, not Netware.

I believe I understand the question. We use Netware for all of our file servers. Over the past year we've started installing Win2k on all client computers rather than Win98. We were excited about the new security features of Win2k and of course the major stability increases. One problem we ran into though was the double login. Users would login at the Netware Screen only to be presented with another login screen for the Win2k client machine (or in your case the Windows Domain). Netware does have a feature to automatically create a local user account for that user when they login, however this confused our users since they then didn't have the same desktop if someone else was logged in. We did not need multiple profiles, just a single desktop per a machine. What we finally figured on doing is creating a standard account on each machine called username and password of password. We then apply registry changes which will automatically login to the username account after succesful Netware login. This way all users have the same desktop on each machine regardless of their Netware login and they never see the local login screen. Be sure to set the User cannot change password and Password never expires options to prevent users getting prompted about changing their password (our users got confused over this and thought they were changing their netware password). The registry setting if I can remember them are as follows:

HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows NT/CurrentVersion/WinLogin:

AutoAdminLogon=1
DefaultDomainName=(local machine name if you are authenticating locally or Domain name if you're using Domain authentication)
DefaultUsername=username
DefaultPassword=password

HKLM/Software/Novell/Login

Create DWORD:
AutoAdminQueryNDS=1

These settings should allow you to hide the local or domain logon from your users. It works quite well for us. If you need more information do a search in Novell's knowledgebase for autologin, theirs some very detailed articles there.
