These caused major stuttering in Left 4 Dead on my rig. I didn't try any other games, but I went back to the 178.24 drivers and everything is fine.
SAME!!! I guess I should roll back.
I have no stuttering in Left 4 Dead with these new drivers.
I have some pretty bad studdering as well.
You all need to try reinstalling Windows and start fresh to see if the drivers still give you a problem. I am willing to bet the problem isn't the nvidia drivers.

180.84 drivers causing BAD Left 4 Dead stuttering @ nvidia forums
New NVIDIA 180.48 Drivers causing stutter @ Left4Dead411
These are just a few of the results Google pulls up. I ran Driver Sweeper (guru3d.com) after uninstalling the 178.24 and before installing the 180.48 driver.
I don't think many people completely reinstall their OS just to update drivers. :disgust:
I am not talking about to update drivers every time you should reinstall your OS. I am saying I bet they would have no more stuttering issues if they did with the current drivers. It is not the drivers causes the issue it is something else.
When i first build my pc, i do a clean install of windows with no drivers at all.
Then i make an image of it and name it something like CleanXP.tib or Vista64Clean.tib.
That way when i have an issue with any driver, i can just restore that image and install the driver "clean" to see if its actually the driver or something else.
(Takes less than 10min to restore an image)
And believe it or not, 99% of the time there are no issues with drivers on a clean install.
Which makes sense, since thats most likely how the drivers are tested (on a clean windows install) before being released.
Anyway, its just "food for thought" for anyone reading.
On your next build try using an image program.
Do a clean install of windows and name it Cleanxp.image / VistaClean.image
Install all your stuff / programs and setup your email etc...etc.. and make another image named XPAll.image or VistaAll.image
that way you can keep your pc running clean FOR SURE, and its as simple as a few mouse clicks, pick your nose or something for 10min or so and Tada...clean pc
And before someone says " you shouldnt have to do all that for drivers".
I dont do it specifically for that, i do it for
ME.
A few extra minutes making a few images when building a pc, saves me all kinds of frustration and time.
BTW: back on topic, im having no issues with the 180.48's in Vista 64 w/GTX 280 and Left for dead.
But its not like Left is that demanding on my system to begin with.
