Merimobles has the New(er) Elf on sale for $170.00 FS.
They say it has Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0, a non-beta version, according to Merimobles (via FaceBook) it looks about the same as the `7 advanced spec-wize, the processor looks to be updated, (a notch slower but runs faster) and a little kick in the pants in the memory dept.
Of course, ICS, Not a beta, either(<not my words) and that should speed things along, as well.

db.

Sauce for the Goose, order before 1/18 and get a nerdy pair of capacitive gloves free.

FYI guys, the Elf is an upgrade to the Advanced, which has been discontinued, and the newest version, the Aurora, is an upgrade to the Elf and has an IPS screen.

I wonder how this compares to the Lenovo A1 for $199.20 which has the same resolution but includes GPS.

I'd pay $50 for a built-in GPS and Lenovo's accessible warranty. RMAing the Ainol to China will be a huge headache, and considerably more expensive.

I can assure you that it is. Took almost 2 months and over $30 to ship it. Not only that, they required me to ship all of the accessories with the RMA, and shipped none of them back to me.

across the internet i find people saying the lenovo a1 is the $200 sweet spot tablet. its build quality is supposedly high, and like mentioned its backed by a reputable company. also, the modding community i would think be better then the chinatablet.

i do think some chinatablets are a good buy though... depends on what you need and what suits you. but the a1 isnt any more money so its hard to pass on

Can't find any information about getting the properties info for the Novo device such as processor speed, internal RAM, etc...
Any hint would be greatly appreciated!

I played with the Elf in a store the other day, it was nice so I ordered the Aurora (same internals as the Elf but with an IPS screen). The processor is the Allwinner A10 that was in the advanced, it is clocked at 1.2ghz in the Elf and Aurora but is a 1.5ghz processor so there is a little room to overclock it... it is also paired with a Mali400 GPU and has 1gb RAM... The Elf's I played with in store were all pretty good and other than viewing angles the screen didn't bother me either.

The only other 7" tablet I have used was a Lenovo A1, which was all stock and at a store as well... the Lenovo was much less responsive, but it did feel pretty solid as well. When I get the Aurora, hopefully this weekend, I will be sure to stress it a little more and poke around to see how it runs and give a more thorough review of the build quality. Living in China I was able to pick up a 16gb Aurora for about $120 ... too good of a deal to pass up, and disposable enough to allow my students to play some games and use it as an interactive whiteboard for certain lessons.

WARNING: These online chinese sellers only accept Paypal. Some of them wait close to 45 days to ship you an item or a lower end mode. Paypal will not help you for the order placed after 45 days - read the fine print. Luckily, a friend of mine had used Amex through Paypal. Amex gives her the full refund from Avatardeals.com after getting zich help from Paypal and Avatardeals.

I dealt with Merrimobiles, they took a regular visa card. Shipping is always long, it's coming across the globe at the cheapest rate possible, you have to know this going in when ordering a China tablet. My advanced 7 is still going strong, I love it and frankly the whole hoopla over ICS is overblown, all I've head about is problems so I don't get the rush to run that OS when gingerbread 2.3 does anything I need in a tablet..

i love staying 1 os version behind, especially with tablets and android.

i really wanted to get a lenovo a1 just because the gps can run standalone. can this cheap tablet do it as well?

No the Advanced 7 does not do GPS. Not a biggie for me anyway, if I'm going somewhere unfamiliar I just print out a Google map beforehand. I can see where if your job required you to travel a lot it would be an important function..

the cpu is weaksauce. alot of people are putting junk cpu's including incompatible and super lame non-neon and throwing ICS on it and people think they are great. remember ARM is not 8>9>11 and neon other other SIMD/SSE extensions are incredibly important. some poeple even use MIPS processors which run java apps but are incompatible with binary/compiled apps - totally useless imo. with the refurb ipad2 for $369 (used 250?) you can jailbreak that and get a ton of quality apps for cheaps with stellar support.

but some people just love their ainol

If your talking about the new version that features the Xburst SOC then I wouldn't touch it either but I own the original Novo 7 advanced, it runs everything I throw at it, plays any video you want, and cost me a whopping $137. That's a lot cheaper than $350, is it as fast as the Ipad2?, no, but I have yet to encounter any lag whatsoever, I would like the bigger screen though..
