Iron Sky - 7/10

Groan-worthy jokes: got them.
Low-brow humor, on the level of say, Mad TV: got that.
Allusions to classic books and movies, including Dr. Strangelove, Independence Day, and The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, that I recognized without trying: got that.
Absolutely terrible characters, that are little more than cartoon caricatures: got that, too.

All in all, it is a terrible movie, about a future invasion by Nazis on the Moon--but a really well made terrible movie, intending to be a terrible movie from the start. If you like movies like Mars Attacks, watch this and enjoy it. If you need real quality, or even cerebral humor, stay as far away as you can.

I saw this recently and really dont get why its getting on the buzz it is. I actually thought it was fairly depressing on many levels, because its hard to laugh at someone's idiosyncrasies when you know they are broken. And its pretty much everyone in the movie. The only parts I like was when Jennifer Lawrence was on the screen, as she is very likable. She is sort of obnoxious, but in a cute annoying younger sister sort of way. I think thats only because early on you dont really see her issues, its only slighter after you like her you realize she is just as f'd up as everyone else in the movie. Or maybe I just liked her character because I kinda like the actress in general.

I almost wonder if I bought into the hype too much and expected a great romantic comedy, and instead of getting a Jerry Maguire like experience I got something...else. Not as bad as the first 10 mins of Up, but in the ballpark.

All in all it wasn't as cheesy as Jerry McGuire because the people in the movie are slightly mentally ill, so you're just waiting in anticipation to see what they do next. That is what adds to the charm of it aside from the Rocky-type message.

If I was writing the script to increase the cheesewhiz, I would have killed off the dad (DeNiro) to make the dance at the end way more poignant. Have it where Cooper's character still wins the bet money after they score higher than a 5, and then he and Jennifer Lawrence's character open up a dance studio for mentally ill people and dedicate it to the dad by calling it Eagle Dance Studio.

5 Broken Cameras (2011): 8/10

found this streaming on Netflix. its a documentary by a farmer that captures the non-violent resistance of occupying forces. movie was academy award nominee for best documentary and won several awards including one at the 2012 sundance festival.

Tron: Legacy - 8.5/10 - Loved it. Very well paced action movie from start to finish. The polish, effects, and scale are huge and it feels like a $170 million movie. Heard the story is supposed to be a bit thin, but I felt it fit fine for what the movie is. Oh, and Olivia Wilde.

A few spoilers, so don't read if you intend to see this movie. This movie does not come out until around February 18 or so.

Good movie, about a wife married to an abusive police detective. She runs away and he tries to find her. She moves into a sea port area and starts shacking up with a guy and his kids. Toward the end, which is the best part, he finds her, the guy she is shacking up with, his dead wife (as a ghost) warns this girl that her husband is near and in the end, there is the typical struggle and she shoots her husband. I would give this movie an 8 out of 10.

I had some difficult with her two inches from her husband and shooting him in the face with a 357 gun and there was no blood splatter on her. Not even a drop. Also, the burned remains of the boyfriends house did not seem realistic. Why didn't the wood floor burn?

Solid, solid movie. So much better than IB for me (I really hated IB). Lots of controversy over the use of the N word, but quite frankly I don't think the movie would have been the same without it.

End of Watch .... 6/10 (a bit generous IMO). Predictable, flat stereotypical characters. Thought it would be more on the dark side and have some Cartel conspiracy shit or something, but it's actually an emotional drama about the relationship between to partners in the LAPD :| ...... The Hispanic cop was funny though.

Oldboy's been on my Must See list for a long time, but I would really prefer watching a subtitled version.

haha i only knew who kroll was from watching the league, and i saw he had a show coming out. i caught the first episode and was like WTF IS THIS SHIT? i said i'd give it one more episode and then i saw week 2's episode, and it was just awful if not worse.

i will not be watching it again and will be shocked if it's not cancelled very soon.

You know... I was actually just making an underhanded joke about how those two (among others) are in all Sandler movies, but it appears that I was sort of correct as David Spade is in it.

Side Effects - 7 out of 10
Interesting murder mystery. A psychiatric patient starts seeing a psychiatrist for extreme depession. The doctor prescribes stronger and stronger anti depression pills (which the person secretly does not take). Then the patient kills her husband under the guise using the insanity defense. The psychiatrist starts to figure out that this was a murder plot and turns the whole thing around. I wonder how many people have actually done this.
