Silver Linings Playbook - 4/10
I really, really disliked this movie. Probably because I had such high expectations (due to reviews and the Oscar nods), but yet didn't know what I was getting myself into. It is so unbelievable, as in, everything the actors/characters did seemed forced and not real. You have the funny old man (Dinero) playing his usual role, and then the half retarded, or I guess BiPolar guy playing a mentally challenged person, the clueless mom, and the naive girl. The characters were pushed on the viewer to the extent that I felt like I was watching a cheesy sitcom. The plot was terrible and predictable as well. I am really just shaking my head as to why this movie has had such great reviews. I only give it a 4/10 because J-Law is a 100*10/10 in the movie. I would not recommend this movie to anyone except some sappy women.
You are giving it FAR too much credit and rating it FAR too high.

I don't know why you guys hated it so much. I thoroughly enjoyed it. You guys seem to have missed the big point too about mental problems.
I've been craving a good human drama film that didn't take itself too seriously. And this fit the bill perfectly. It had a serious underbelly about mental problems and how we as society put a stigma on it while other physical handicaps are more 'accepted'.

It also shows that mental problem isn't just on or off. Everyone suffers some forms of it on a linear scale. You got the dad with OCD and stupid level of superstition, yet what he doesn't catch flak. He's also a life-ruining gambler- what if Pat didn't win the dance competition? His life would've been wrecked.
Also remember when Pat thought he had a 'superior' mental illness than Tiffany's? Or how Robert Dinero wrote Tiffany off as 'crazy' because she went to therapy, only to be reprimanded by Pat because he went to therapy too?
It's scary how it's similar to nerds on internet dissing each other for being worse nerds. It's like pot and kettle having a pissing contest. Nerds online, gamers, and people with mental problems- they all are self-hating self-consuming hypocrites. And the film addressed that PERFECTLY right in the gut.
It's far more than a sappy chick flick. And the story was comical in its sick and twisted way. It was very refreshing.
As for Jennifer Lawrence, I'm VERY happy for her. Her acting was absolutely top notch. It's true scripts can ruin or make actors. She was terribly cringe worthy in Hunger Games, and she was given the opportunity to show her true skills in this movie. Bradley Cooper is solid as always.
I wholly agree with the saying, 'Jennifer Lawrence is everything Kristen Stewart wished to be'.
Great story, great acting, and a dash of humor. She deserved that Oscar, especially compared to some who got it for really pretentious or circle-jerk roles in recent past.
