Hangover III I was pleasantly surprised. I read a couple reviews that said it was more an action movie than a comedy. So, with an expectation that it was more action than comedy, I wasn't disappointed. It was the first movie at the drive-in. Before I had arrived, I was thinking that if it was the 2nd movie, I'd likely leave long before it was over. But again, pleasantly surprised. 6.5/10

Fast & Furious 6: Again, read the reviews ahead of time, so expected non-stop action. It was boring. And, usually during action movies, you might know who's going to win, but they generally aren't 100% predictable as to what was going to happen in the next 10 seconds. And, maybe it was the projector/screen, but looked like they didn't put much into the special effects. 5/10.

It's called false advertising and this movie could have been way greater if they went the way they pretended to be in the trailer. The could have even been fired, killed, etc. in the end and that would have made far more viewers entertained, which is the point.... right?
I don't find entertainment in watching the bromance of 2 LAPD officers unfold and then end tragically. :'(
You were right that this film is quite forgettable though.

Well if they went with the trailer's direction, it would've been REALLY silly like the 80's/90's buddy-cop movies.

They kept the plot grounded. I liked that.

Silver Linings Playbook (really liked it, very funny and interesting)
Jack Reacher (was terrible, wouldn't recommend to anyone)
Beautiful Creatures (boring as hell, all CGI but just a teenage love flick trying to be a Twilight movie)
Mama (pretty different, scary, I thought it was entertaining)
Django Unchained (awesome, as usual Quentin Tarantino did a great job)

These were recent...

silver linings playbook - 3/5 - knew absolutely nothing about this movie other than hearing it was really good from about everyone, but i just didn't think it was anything special. good movie to watch once but pretty forgettable imo. i do think that the hangover guy has some potential though, he did a great job in the role and not playing some silly guy as he does in the hangover. acting overall was really good in the movie though.

He was pretty good in Limitless - solid acting. Good flick too.

I was looking for something to kill time with on Netflix streaming and came across these, hadn't seen them before. Michael Bay directed buddy cop movies starting Will Smith as the rich, adrenaline junky, smooth talking cop #1 and Martin Lawrence the family man, comedy relief, just wants a normal life cop #2. Pretty typical buddy cop movies with lots of wise cracking, gun fights, fist fighting, car chases, crap blowing up, and the always pissed off captain. Like they usually do they felt like they had to top the 1st movie in the 2nd one and it gets completely ridiculous so it gets a slightly lower rating, it also runs a bit too long at 2 1/2 hours. Better than most of the other crap on netflix streaming if you haven't seen them.

????? It could have been anything the production team wanted to make it. Why would have to be a silly buddy cop flick? I didn't say they had to win in the end, be a comedy, etc..... just that it would have been cool of it was something more than a poor drama that presented itself as an action flick in the trailers. False advertisement!

On the bright side, The Killing season 3 started tonight.

Watched 3 movies over the weekend.

1. Hangover 3 - 6/10. Easily the worse of the franchise. Same ole tricks carried over from the first one. Stupid and clumsy guys yet somehow came out on top. Don't let me start at the stupidity/ridiculous of the penthouse at the casino (how would they able to get out). At last we won't have to see #4 (hopefully).

2. StarTrek, Into Darkness - 8/10. Not bad. Same ole crew as the first one and the new blondie. Ed Harris is getting old, his face is just so old/strange looking.

3. Epic 3D - 7/10. Typical kid stuff toon movie. Decent but nothing comparing to Up or Finding Nemo.

Oh, After Earth is officially bombed at the box office as everyone expected it to be. M. Night may not work in Hollywood again.

Sunshine - 6/10
At times the plot dragged along, but it wasn't too bad.

Star Trek Into Darkness - 8/10
I rate it high as an action movie. If I start to analyze it, it tumbles to about a 4/10.

Jack Reacher - 3/10
The only movie I've seen this year that's worse is Alex Cross. Everything sucked.

The Last Stand - 7/10
Good flick.

ooo I guess I'm ahead of the curve on this one, since it came out early in the Philippines:

Redemption (Hummingbird) 8/10 - Jason Statham in a more dramatic role, yet still maintains action star qualities throughout the film. Really the perfect role for him to open up a bit more beyond cookie cutter action flicks. Great acting all around, great screenplay, could be a bit slow at times but with a runtime of 1hr40min boredom doesn't get much a chance to set in

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance - 6.5 / 10

It's another silly Nicholas Cage movie. Not as much fun as Drive Angry but still entertaining, and he was having a good time with the role.

mama - 4/5 - decent horror flick. it had a great atmosphere as well and it didn't really go a bad direction as some other recent horror flicks i've seen have. definitely felt like a japanese horror movie like the ring or the grudge, i wouldn't be surprised if it's the english translation of an older japanese horror movie. there was a point in the flick though where it kind of lost it's freaky atmosphere when they kind of threw everything in your face. not a bad flick though.

Mama - 7/10 As above, this was kinda typical storyline (in terms of japanese horror), but better than most. I enjoyed it.

Orphan Black - 8/10 - New British TV show about a woman who witnesses a woman who looks like her commit suicide and takes her identity which thrusts her into a bizarre turn of events. This show leans towards a realistic/sci-fi drama and is much better than the other handful of sci-fi dramas on TV right now. I can't say much w/o giving key plot points away, granted it's not always difficult to figure out the twists coming, but unlike most British shows the first season is 10 @45 minute episodes so it is quite a bit longer than normal and lots of character development. I enjoyed it quite a bit.

I will say the lead character is amazing for everything she has to do on this show and she must spend ALOT of time in the makeup chair.

Looper 6/10

Sci-fi, I think the writer/director must have watched The Exorcist and The Terminator a day or two before deciding to write the screen play. Yes, it's kind of a mating of the two movies. I'm quite into sci-fi but dislike it when they play the time travel card. It's a cheap trick. Maybe funny in Back to the Future, but in general an egregious abandonment of the promise of sci-fi to deliver it's true purpose - show us what the current technologies portend for the future. The Terminator I and II movies work in spite of the trick, this movie is pretty muddled. I think the protagonist was enjoying himself early on but got very bored and tiredby the time it was over. Too much running through the cane fields.

End of Watch 7/10

Kind of an epitome of a cop movie. All about cops, cops in a ghetto environment repleat with drugs, guns, gangs, vendettas, cop-hate, poverty, graffiti, seemingly constant danger in spite of the good natured kidding back and forth between the two cops paired together (white and latino), who are soul brothers. That back and forth is a good portion of the movie, as they are cruising the streets. Calls on their two-way radios, hand held much of the time. It's exploitative, lurid, kind of preposterous if you try to think of what the reality of being a cop is, that is to say, noone could survive or live such a stressful existence all the time. Well, that shit happens, sure, but not all to the same two guys, jeez. It was written and directed by one guy, and I watched some of the extras. He seems a little humourless, maybe, is youngish, compared to a lot of guys. I didn't see him smile, instead saw a kind of quirky twist in his mouth. I think the things said in the extras are overblown, kind of the world through a highly distorting lens sorts of blurbs.

Starship Troopers: Invasion 6.5/10

The fourth in the series, this time it's a computer graphics movie like Appleseed, Vexille, and the anime Resident Evil movies.

The CG "actors" aren't any more wooden than Casper the friendly Van Dien, and the CG shower boobies aren't any more plastic than what you normally see in Hollywood.

If you liked 1 and 3 (no one liked 2), you'll probably be entertained by this one too.
