Iron Man 3 - 6/10

Not sure what the deal is, but its like they wanted to make an Iron Man movie without Stark actually being in armor.
And PED humans strong enough to rip apart Iron man's armor? And The Mandarin not actually a Mandarin, with power rings or martial art mastery...what a waste. He is supposed to be one of Iron Man's greatest foes. And whats with that stupid kid?
I expected more from Shane Black.

Thing that I didn't understand at ALL is that Extremis was just a magic switch which made the guy "invincible" and able to... breathe fire? WTF? I understand the "getting hot" part kinda, but breathing fire? Talk about cheesy. I felt like the individual scenes were well written, like the witty banter with the kid, but the overall ideas felt like a money grab (make his relationship with Pepper strained! add a kid in there! it'll be relatable for the whole family!). Most disappointing of the series, easily.

I forgot to review Everybody Loves Raymond.

3/10

Only mildly entertaining the first few seasons. Characters got very unpleasant and it stopped being funny or original around season 3. For some sick reason I stuck it out to the end. Mostly to see if there were any lulz to be had.
Not many.

Could not watch that show. If she were my wife I'd be in prison for killing her!

The Finder - 8/10: A TV show about a guy who finds things. Pretty entertaining but only one season of 13 shows. RIP MCD. Kind of ends but more of a WTF was that kind of ending.

Life - 7.5/10: TV show about a cop (Lt Winters from BoB) whose life sentence was overturned and he returns to the police force. Pretty entertaining. Only a season and a half but they did manage to "end" the story.

Both are on netflix streaming.

Best showdown with villain in the history of TV! Surprised it took so long to see that. hahahaha

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns: Part 1 6/10
Batman never seems to sound right when it isn't Kevin Conroy doing the voice. Batman is 55 years old and has been retired for 10 years. The city has gone to crap which eventually draws him out of retirement. Fun seeing an older out of shape Batman still whopping butt. Much darker than the usual animated batman movie. The villain wasn't very interesting or fleshed out which drags this one down a bit. Part 2 looks a bit more interesting with the Joker showing back up.

Elysium 3.5/10 I think that overall for a movie, it was about a 5/10, but for any genre which you'd fit it into (action, sci-fi) it's no more than a 3.5/10. It was almost as if "well, it's starring Matt Damon, so people will come to see it & we can make even more profit by saving money on the action sequences. Come on - you've got a futuristic flying military machine, and the special effects look like the firecrackers shallowly buried and set of in succession to mimic machine gun fire, 1960's movie style? There was never any build up of suspense.

2 Guns 8.5/10 I had no idea what the plot was about before the movie - if you plan on going, don't find out. One of the trailers gives away a huge spoiler. I had actually gone to the drive-in to see the above movie. This as the second movie was a very pleasant surprise.
They're both good guys working for different agencies and think the other guy is a bad guy.
I found the plot to be different, and interesting. I was left a little disappointed by the final fight scene. A handful of good comedic lines in there for humor. But, at least half a dozen times, I was thinking, "well, never saw that coming!" A little wasn't believable
simply being declared awol & forced to leave the base
but for the most part, I and the wife really enjoyed the movie. I believe her words were "it was a cute movie." And, it was the 2nd movie at the drive-in & she stayed awake the entire time - the plot had to be engaging, or she would have been snoring 5 minutes into it.

The Worlds End - 8/10

Pretty damn funny, like Hangover (Part 1) meets British comedy (lock stock/snatch)

Bernie 9/10

Kept me interested the whole way through. Excellent way to make this kind of movie. I was surprised to find that
it was based on a real person / case
.

[edit]
Changed my rating from 8 to 9 after watching it again. This movie was even better the second time.

Watched it again. Had to come back and increase my rating. I'm still tempted to go a bit higher because I just can't find any fault with this movie.

Bernie: 8.5/10

A fantastic movie, pretty novel screenplay and direction. A few might have issues with the pacing, but Jack Black's acting makes up for everything. This is not his best performance, that goes to School of Rock, but is pretty fucking brilliant. Yet an other gem of a comedy/drama.
I agree except I didn't like School of Rock. The genius of this movie was casting Jack Black to play as Bernie. I'm not a fan of Jack Black, but he fit the role perfectly and I don't think anyone else would have done it so well.

pain & gain - 7/10.

this movie was quite different than i expected it to be. i thought it was going to be more serious than it was. it's also pretty crazy that it was based on a true story. i thought the main black dude was also not a good fit for the role, but the rock stole the show. also the movie was much funnier than i expected it to be, but not because it's a comedy, just because of how stupid the guys are. the black dudes woman was hilarious though.

i did love the 90's feel to the movie though.

Yes, there are some spoilers, but not really. Saw this movie last night at a special advanced screening. Yes they smashed up about 150 cars. Yes, there was a really cool Shelby Mustang, but that is really it. There were so many bloopers in the movie that it was mind boggling. Their seat belts were latched, then they weren't, then they were, and back and forth over and over. Then the passenger side view mirror goes flying off, and then its back. The plot sucked, especially at the end. The photography of the car driving was extremely poor. Overall, a very poor movie.

Dirigible's drunk movie reviews (ratings may have been different had I been sober):

GI Joe Retaliation: 2/10
This movie was terrible. Even being hella drunk did not help. The plot was childish and the acting inept. At times there was all kinds of fighting and stuff blowing up but I did not care because it was still ridiculously boring.

Dredd: 9/10
Dredd came along and saved the evening. In this movie, there are bad guys and they are all kinds of evil fucks: killing innocents, torturing their enemies, supplyin' the hard drugs. They've got the numbers. They've got control of the giant building they're in, including surveillance cameras 'n' shit. They've got big weapons. Dredd goes around, says "fuck you," and kicks butt. I found the telepathic woman judge hot too. Not a movie that has much by way of complexity or anything that will move you to tears or make you think about the world, but if you want to see some violence this is a good film.

I've never really found myself that into shorter hair or blonde hair on women, but Olivia Thirlby

Oh, and I was reading some news on the possibility of a sequel to Dredd, and Karl Urban was saying that while fans were clamoring for Judge Death, a movie including him would probably be too expensive to make. He said a prequel would probably be possible, but that means no Anderson. :'(

3/10; it's a terribad movie whose only redeeming values are Wesley Snipes doing the Wesley Snipes schtick and a zombie named "Skullbucket". Worth watching only if you're drunk.

Here's a link to the true story. Great read if you haven't read it yet. I still haven't seen the movie, but I can't wait after reading this article.

Detention - 7/10 - Kind of a horror/slasher/sci-fi-time travel/ self aware high school teen movie. It's very spastic in it's presentation, but has a somewhat smart sense of humor. It isn't in the same vein as parody movies (like Scary Movie / Naked Gun) but it isn't exactly serious either..I would almost put it somewhere between Scream and Scary Movie with some Scott Pilgrim thrown in. I actually enjoyed this for what it was even though it seemed a bit ADD and hard to follow at times.

Would you Rather - 6/10 - Group of people in need of money are invited to a dinner party of some rich people (main one played by Jeffery Combs who makes the movie). What starts out innocently enough quickly turns into a sadistic version of would you rather. You may recognize a number of the actors in this from other roles which was interesting (as well as a porn star so my wife tells me who I thought was Meg from Supernatural). There are a few squeamish moments, but there are a few that test believability.

Merlin - 6/10 I started watching this show after my appetite for SG was finally exhausted with the finale of SG Atlantis.
Its not bad for a BBC One production. It starts out a little cheesy but by the second season I was hooked. The special effects are awful but the character development makes the show. As the seasons progress you can really start to see the actors get comfortable with one another and it just seems to flow.
