Skyfall - 0/10. I'm actually going through Bond movies on Netflix now to see if there's any that I think are worse. Daniel Craig is probably my least favorite Bond, but Roger Moore is up for review next when I get some time.
You Only Live Twice - 5/10. This one had a little too much of a comic feel for me.
Goldfinger - 7/10. It's not bad, but it is worse than I remember.
Never Say Never Again - 10/10. My favorite Connery Bond

I am a Connery fan. Most of his movies are slow by today's standards but they had good stories. Moore was had a cheese factor that I cannot get over. Dalton was just wrong for the role. Bronson was all special effects and no storyline. Craig has had good mix of storyline action and special effects. Of all of the actors that have played Bond I would see a Craig movie before anyone else.

Godzilla 7/10

I would have given this a 6 if it wasn't so much butter than the Broderick version. I totally agree that they spent waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much time on stuff OTHER THAN the thing that they named the movie after. Almost the first whole hour doesn't have any monsters whatsoever let alone Godzilla. It's a monster movie, give me monsters, don't give me some stupid drama about the family stuff, that should have been secondary to the monsters but they made it more important. The actual monster parts were very redeeming though, great effects and as usual 3D sucks, added nothing so don't worry about needing to see it in 3D.

Damn I wanted to watch Skyfall. Why didn't you like it? Just because of the Bond that acted it?

I thought it was pretty damn bad overall. The acting was pretty stiff, and they seemed to focus everything on trying to set up a bunch of terrible sexually-based one-liners. I thought the action was pretty weak, and the villain's backstory was something weak like wanting to get back at Moneypenny (sp?). Moneypenny was also in the movie for a significant amount of the time, too, and I find her to be a shitty actress that comes off like a bitch 99% of the time.

There is a new "Q" who is pretty much useless. They try to insert him into the film at multiple points for some reason, and every time they toss him in he fucks something up, or is just incompetent. His story is that he's some super-genius 25-30 year old.

Some people say it was "action-packed," but I didn't remember a lot of actual action in the movie. I remember a few scenes where Bond is just chasing people, an explosion here and there, but as for actual action, I recall little. Honestly, I started to fall asleep like 1/3 of the way through because the movie was so bad, so my recollection may be off.

And the ultimate insult, from my foggy memory, is that I don't remember Bond getting laid.

Huh, that sounds pretty bad. Should I still go watch this or?

Godzilla 5.5/10

And personally I'll just add the .5 on because saw the 3D one with the DBox chairs and the 3D was pretty good I thought, and I'm not a big fan of it.

I could do without the chair, but actually I'd had a long week at work and found myself dozing off here and there the first hour, so at least got a bit of a massage and it woke me up again when something was going on.

Like Zerocool said, took way longer than I liked for things to get rolling, I had a feeling it would be like that but really.

I expected a bit more personally.

Usually don't do theaters at all these days, but wanted to give this one a go there.

Too much ZZZZZZZZZZZ, not enough (Stomp) (Stomp) RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWRRRRR !!!!!

Godzilla 2014 6/10
As a huge fan of the rubber suit versions I think I went into this with way too high of expectations. The biggest problem is way too much time is spent on a family that I couldn't give a crap about and not enough time on Godzilla. A Godzilla movie needs to be primarily about Godzilla stomping on shit and fighting and I guess this just didn't have the budget they need for that. When something cool does start happening with Godzilla they cut away back to the family crap again which was pissing me off.

Yeah, that cutting away thing was pissing me off, too.

Godzilla - 4/10

I kind of alternate between thinking that 4/10 is too harsh, and thinking it's too generous. On the one hand, it's a monster movie, so you get all the trope of "what do you expect, it's not supposed to be great". But it was obviously supposed to be great. That's what all the money on special effects was supposed to do - make it great. And it didn't.

As far as I can tell, the special effects are the only redeeming feature about the whole movie, and I can't say that even this was something exceptional. Just kind of par for the course of what we would expect from an action movie these days.

Amen to that +1

Godzilla - 8/10

Lots of fun.
Character development and acting with some our heroes wasn't so great, but they were just filler anyway, till we GOT MORE GODZILLA AND MUTO!!!! :whiste:

Well...that's disappointing. Godzilla isn't supposed to be a family drama, except maybe crying because he just stepped on your daughter and wife.

I found it to be worth watching. I didn't feel like I had wasted my time after seeing it (which occasionally happens). I don't think I'm as picky as many people here though. It's entertaining/interesting enough.

Tucker and Dale vs Evil 6/10: Quite awkward in spots, but quite funny in others. Premise is fresh, seems not quite used to its' potential though.

Godzilla (2014) - 4/10. I was bored through most of it. People are being WAY too easy on it as if they're trying to atone for the sins of Matthew Broderick and Zilla.

My 5.5 was probably way generous, but I'll stick to it.

Yeah, I'm not as picky either. When I enjoy a movie (even if it's laughably bad), as long as I'm entertained I won't bash on the movie.

It's entertaining and a very good romp--but it SUCKS for a Bond film. And I've really liked Daniel Craig in the role--Casino Royale is one of the best Bond flicks ever, without a doubt.

...but the series has gotten crappier since then. Trying to be Borne films, I think.

The problem isn't Craig, and it isn't directors (they have been very well made, well cast and all that)--it's producers trying to push Bond in a direction that is very wrong for Bond.

Anyway, watch it. You'll probably like it as it's going on.

You forgot George Lazenby, who happened to play Bond in the best Bond film ever. Fuck Sean Connery for returning for one more (very shitty) film after OHMSS. ...But Connery was great, of course.

Casino Royale was amazing, though--and point in fact, it was truer to Flemming's Bond than any previous film, any previous actor, ever got (aside from the first 3 from Connery...though he still wasn't as hard-ass as Bond should have been, as much as he was allowed to be in Dr No).

Gozilla (2014) - 7/10

I saw it in IMAX 3D just because I wanted the big IMAX screen; I didn't care about the 3D but it was alright (though not as good as it was in Gravity).

I wasn't too impressed with the family drama and amount of time spent on it, but it doesn't surprise me that they had some family drama type stuff part of the plot.

It did remind me of the old Japanese Godzilla movies I loved as a kid in how it handled Godzilla as being a "savior." The special effects were pretty damn good as well. The sense of scale on how huge the monsters were was great; it reminded me a bit of Pacific Rim.

Overall, I'd recommend it if you liked the older Godzilla movies and can watch a movie (especially one that requires such a suspension of disbelief) without nitpicking every goddamn thing in it. I would've given it perhaps an 8.5 if there was more Godzilla in it. Looking forward to a sequel (I stayed after the credits and there was no extra scene but I'm guessing they're doing a sequel if the movie does half decently).

Anyone have reviews for Robocop? About to watch this on DVD tonight
I watched it last week. I've seen the original one a couple years ago, I think, but I honestly don't really remember much details from it (I was probably drunk at the time, sigh). So I can't really compare it to the original, but as a stand-alone movie I guess it was ok. I'd give it a 6.5/10 maybe? Worth a rent.

The Spectacular Now - 7.3/10 - Solid coming of age movie. Managed to avoid some of the typical stereotypes and felt more realistic & grounded.

Elysium - 7.5/10 - I liked the visuals and the story, ignoring some of the larger plotholes
If you can encrypt the brain data and equip it to kill the host, why would you allow it to be copied off and THEN kill
? I think they really dropped the ball with the political statement though. They certainly highlight the gap between the haves and have-nots, but didn't emphasize why the discrepancy was there and how the haves were oppressing the have-nots. They focused too much of the conflicts around the
med-bay technology
. I'm sure that if that was the main pain point between the societies Elysium would have found a way to mitigate.
The device was ubiquitous on Elysium, not some rarity. In fact at the end you see the shuttles full of them sitting idle. Witholding medical care from Earth would not be an effective way to oppress them, not compared to the typical methods of limiting access to information, communication, education, free speech, job opportunities etc.
. Anyway, I enjoyed it for the visuals and the action but it could have been much better.
