Secret Life of Walter Mitty -- 8/10 One of the better movies I've watched recently, I really liked it (which is odd for me, because I don't like Ben Stiller).

I agree, had it and hadn't watched it.

Am now and pretty good.

Much better than I expected.

Secret Life of Walter Mitty - 8/10 - Agree with this. I wasn't expecting much, and since it starred Ben Stiller, who is hit or miss with me as well I was pleasantly surprised.

Edge of Tomorrow - 9/10

Don't know what I'd give 10/10 but this one surprised me. Saw it yesterday and was very impressed, the story, action and effects were well done. Cruise's character really goes from a coward to a savior - but he's no superman. A fair bit of humor in it as well. Dying over and over is quite amusing, apparently.

I could have used a bit more Godzilla myself, like a little longer battle at the end. I didn't mind Godzilla not showing up for so long because I thought it built up suspense well.

Still, a tardy Godzilla doesn't make the movie a 2.5/10 by a long shot.
I still feel soft for giving it a 5.5 myself, but I'll stand by it, compared to some things released lately.

Listened to this and then watched:

Rocky - 7.5/10 Predictable, boxing was somewhat unrealistic, a little sappy. BUT Really impressed that a new comer to film (besides a porno) was able to act so well. He nailed the role, and was very convincing as a clueless, dumb, bum boxer. The true fact is that Stallone is SMART. And Butkiss is Stallones irl dog, thats super cool.
Rocky II - 8/10 Same exact format as 'Rocky' but felt more refined as a film.
Rocky III - 7.5/10 The training is more realistic. Mr. T is really hate-able yet lovable as a villain. Still predictable.
Rocky IV - 6.5/10 Hated all the stupid shit with robot servants and unrealistic Russian technology. Also hated how
the Russian crowd switched to Rockys favor during the main fight
. Acting felt flat and rushed.
Rocky V - 5/10 Slow. Fell asleep twice. Made Rocky look like an emotional pussy. Glamorized street fighting: all through the movie hes concerned about appearing like a 'Bum'. Then what does he do? he proves he is a total bum by having a bare-fisted street battle. And after he wins hes a Hero again. Even Adrian was hugging and smiling at him at the end. hmmm dumb.

First Blood (1982) - 8/10 : this is pure 1980's gold. Somewhat believable premise. Great action for a mid-80s flick. Way more entertaining than most movies coming out today.

Her - 7.5/10 Awkward, funny, annoying, thought provoking. I thought it
took too long for him to figure out she's having relationships with other people. Although i totally understand the jealousy part, it bugged me that it took so long for him to get it. Sex scenes were weird and I actually laughed out loud in the first one because all I could picture during the black screen was Joaquin with his stupid mustache jacking off under the sheets
. Thought provoking because it made me think about what defines a relationship verses what SHOULD define a relationship. ie. You cant turn real people on and off when you please. If the computer was a real girl she would be annoyed and pissed off all the time because she was being 'ignored' while he didnt talk to her or some bullshit.

The man who shot Liberty Valance. (1962) 7/10 - by today's action packed and special effect driven this would be a 2/10. With older movies you have to put them back in time when they were made. One of the performers went on to to do the voice of Fryr Tuck in the Disney's Robin Hood.

I personally think that movie is timeless, one of my favorites.

X-men: First Class - 9/10 - This is an excellent movie that gives the X-men backstory. I wish the pace was a little better though. Better pace and it was a 10/10.

lone survivor - 10/10 - holy shit is all i can say ... this movie is incredible. VERY intense and i found myself clenching my hands a couple times in this movie without even realizing it. the sound in this movie is incredible as well, so if you have a good sound system pump it up and you will be in bliss. i am very glad i purchased this movie because it will be one i will watch multiple times and i really want to watch all of the extras, and i will be using it to demo my system as well. very sad flick as well when you think about it, even though i'm sure it didn't happen exactly as it was depicted in the movie.

I've had this movie for a while but haven't watched it yet because it is so intense. Mebbe after the playoffs...

X-Men - Days of Future Past - 7/10

Much, much better than the second Captain America movie.

Once again, I'm conflicted by my rating. The acting was good (even though there were minor lapses in acting quality), the action was good, the Sentinels were pretty bad-ass. But on the other hand the whole story was a bit wishy-washy, and I never understood why Mystique's tissue (of all the mutants) was so important. As for Logan convincing Charles and Eric to get along...that seemed altogether far too easy. From everything I know of Magneto from the previous films he was not that type of person. And from everything we're told of Charles from this very film, he wasn't that type of person either.

Things I liked in particular about this movie was the way the movie used time travel as a way to explore the characters in the film and actually make them seem human, rather than weird caricatures. While the Captain America film felt to me like every character had a role to play in terms of the eternal fight vs good and evil (e.g. Captain America = good, Bucky = bad) I liked how the characters in this film were a bit more gray-scale. Everyone has their own motivations and contributing factors that make their actions a little bit more believable.

I also liked the way the film decided to use internal, rather than external enemies. Finally we have an action movie which depicts America's internal struggles rather than facing (and beating) an external "threat to democracy". This was a great opportunity to show some of the negatives of the US way of doing things, and that people are people, American or not. I really can't stress the importance of this enough.

I liked the contrast between how the Sentinels changed between the past and the future. It fits very well with the dystopian kind of world in the future, compared to the rather more simplistic world of the past. Although how Trask could manage (in the infancy of the computer age) to develop a sophisticated machine with equally sophisticated computational capacity without using any kind of metal.

Overall, I feel that when describing this I could say "this was a good movie" rather than "this was good, for an action movie". While some aspects were a bit forced and contrived, the whole thing works well as a single piece and it's a welcome reflection of some of the other superhero reboots (e.g. Superman, Batman, to some extent Spiderman and Iron Man), which were sophisticated as movies, rather than just being sophisticated compared to other action movies.

Only Lovers Left Alive - 7/10
I really wanted to like this, but it just didn't happen for me.
Couldn't really appreciate any of the characters' plights.
A very beautiful movie, but felt far too pretentious for my liking.

In the Blood - 6/10
Not a good movie, but it's so much fun seeing Gina Carano kick major ass. ^_^

Edge of Tomorrow - 9/10
Wow, what a year for blockbusters setting a high bar.

Captain America: Winter Soldier was great.
X-Men: Days of Future Past was great.
And then there's Tom Cruise in a yet another great summer blockbuster.
Wait, what?

I would never have predicted that in the beginning of June, Edge of Tomorrow would be, IMHO, the best movie i'd seen in 2014 thus far, but here we are. While not a perfect movie, it really had a bit of everything to leave me very satisfied.

The Starving Games - 11/10

Pain & Gain - 11/10

Citizen Kane - "WTF is this crap?"/10
So, who is it you're trying to pick a fight with? All those so-called tear-jerkers ain't got nothin' on Rosebud.

El amor perjudica seriamente la salud - 7/10
Random find. Has Penelope Cruz, but I've never heard of it. Must watch. Was pleasantly surprised. It starts as something of an almost-dark romantic comedy, then later moves into straight sitcom, as years go by. Pacing is pretty uneven, else I'd probably have enjoyed it more, as potential and talent was there in spades (and put to good use, just not up to that best-movie-ever level). Soundtrack gets a 9/10, though.

I've mostly been watching series, lately, and have a backlog of movies to watch (and why do my cats like the cardboard Criterion boxes?! Stay away from those!).

He's saying that only people with no taste who can't recognize a true classic would like "Pain & Gain" and "The Starving Games."
