I saw A Christmas Story for the first time last night. I give it a 5/10. For all the hype around here, I thought it was pretty meh. It had some lulz, but wasn't all that funny, and didn't feel especially Christmasy. Probably one of those 'I guess you had to be there things'. It came after my time.

The Interview 5.5/10

Obviously most of us are going to watch this because of what's been going on surrounding it, that's why I watched it. It's standard Seth Rogan fare, you either love it or hate it. I personally don't like his movies since they have all the same fart/sex jokes in them. Yes there were definitely some laugh out loud funny parts but less than a handful for me. The movie has transcended what it originally was meant to be though. Should you watch it? I say yes. Is it a good movie? No, but that doesn't matter at this point.

But I've known that for years since I stopped playing any games from SOE many years ago after they fragged SWG, and even received a "our database has been compromised and your credit card may be at risk" e-mails years after I had stopped playing it.

As far as I'm concerned, Sony sucks in general, and has for at least a decade.

They were doing things just as bad leading up to all that mess to begin with I'm sure, way before then.

May be a bit unfair as I definitely dozed off in the middle, but I was awake for the first 30-40 minutes and I was awake for the last 45-60 minutes. I felt it was too long, but because I fell asleep in the middle, I dunno if they could have cut anything.

Good movie otherwise, I see why DDL won the award for his performance. He was pretty good.

Really enjoyed the atmosphere setup by the ambient sounds in a lot of the scenes. Maybe I've gotten used to the lack of 5.1 on a lot of Netflix, or the lack of 5.1 on my DirecTV extender in that room, but it the sounds of clocks ticking and such definitely caught my attention in this one.

The Godfather 8/10 I can't even remember how many times I have seen this. Perfect Christmas movie :awe:

Guardians of the Galaxy - 8.5/10 - I don't think any movie could live up to the hype this has gotten, but it is still a very fun space opera action movie.

Into the Woods - 3/10 - This was a seriously bad movie. Not only was it a musical that was nonsensical, the songs were always in a weird rhythm; the overall "message" was terrible.

The whole "aren't giant's also people?" and the forgiveness part just made zero sense when they were like "oh well, kill it anyway!" Plus, the cheating baker's wife part and her just randomly dying was awful.

Probably the greatest living actor by a significant margin. I really loved that movie, but I know it's not for most people.

I started to watch some stage version on Netflix a couple years ago. I like musicals, but turned that crap off after 7 minutes. Awful.

i had never watched any of them until like 3 years ago when i was 30. i thought they were boring as hell. i'm sure if i saw it when i was younger and it was newer, i probably would have appreciated it more.

Near Dark - 5/10 - I had never heard of this until mentioned in this thread. Of course it had Lance and Bill in it so I thought it might be decent. It was so so, not the worst I've seen, but not that good overall. I don't think it could have overshadowed Lost Boys regardless of when it came out.

However, while researching this, I discovered the movie Harbinger Down coming out early next year. A kickstarted movie by the people who did the practical effects in pretty much every movie I love (Aliens, The Thing, etc etc) as well as the newest Thing, which the producers threw it all out for CGI (I watched a documentary on it, their work was amazing).

While the premise is nothing original (basically The Thing on a boat), it looks pretty good for a low budget B horror movie using all practical effects and no CGI.

Wentworth season 1 and 2 7.5/10
Australian ladies in prison series. More Oz than Orange is the New Black. There isn't much TnA and very few of the ladies you would want to see nekid anyway. This is a gritty prison show and the women are pretty gritty too. Basic plot is Bea is in an abusive relation ship and finally snaps and nearly kills her husband and ends up in prison. She goes in very timid and evolves through out the series. The second season is when things really get rolling but the first season is pretty good too. Netflix streaming give it a shot.

Yeah, I can't really defend anyone who doesn't like the Godfather 1 and 2. 3, eh, I'll give you a pass because it wasn't that good.

The first and second are some of the greatest gangster films ever made. Pacino's transformation from the wide eyed soldier to the Godfather is some of the best acting ever produced.
