Must not be your type of low brow humor. I loved both of them.
Must not be. I remember watching 21 and best I can remember it was meh. I probably wasnt drunk enough this time around because I didnt even make it half way through before turning it off. IMO, its one of those too stupid to even be funny movies.

Boyhood (2014)

A very solid 8/10. Not to be missed. I've been a huge Linklater fan since Before Sunrise. He has a knack for getting at the marrow of modern life.

I mean, it deserves every bit of praise because it took 12 years to make.I haven't seen it.

It is the best movie ever

Repo! The Genetic Opera 4/10
This movie is really cool looking and well shot and the idea of it really interested me but it just isn't that good. Most of the people aren't great singers and the plot wasn't what I was expecting. The gist of it is people organs are failing for some reason and a company has come up with synthetic organs but if you don't make your payments they repo them, sounds pretty cool. But what it is mostly about is the daughter of the repo guy being stuck in her bedroom for her whole life and blah blah boring.

Boyhood was a unique and ground breaking technical achievement, a true labor of love for Linklater. I can see why industry insiders loved it.

The only problem is that the finished product was often flat and boring for us, its viewers.

Completely agree. It was absolutely painful for me. I barely made it through the full runtime.

Chappie - 6/10. 6 points for mind control battletech, but too many damn plot holes and wtfness to be any higher. And why didn't anybody tell me die Antwood was in the movie?

Kingsman secret service - 7/10. I'm not sure wtf I just watched but it was better than Chappie

Hobbit trilogy - 7/10 cuz LOTR but somehow I can't get myself to rate it any higher.

Orange is the New Black -- 9.5/10 -- A Netflix original. It's third season is coming out soon. Despite having it in my queue forever, I just recently went through the first season. It is beyond excellent.

It has a consistently top notch cast, especially the inmates. The lead actress, Taylor Schilling, has an amazing command of a broad array of facial expressions. The writing and characterization is superb.

I think I avoided it for so long because I thought it would be cliched. It is not. It is not Hollywoodized or over the top. The threat of violence is always lurking, but never, ever gone to gratuitously.

The characters are always human, never cardboard or one dimensional. The dynamics are as real life as they come.

I can't recommend it enough.

Ok, I've now finished the second season, far faster than I ever thought I would. Maybe I've oversold it a bit, I dunno . . . but I really like it. Let's call it at least 9/10, k?

For me, the more episodes I watched, the more I got involved. The Jason Biggs relationship parts could be considered weaker than the prison stuff (and the artfully inserted back stories of the inmates) are, but they aren't terrible. It's just that, what smoking hot woman would plausibly be attracted to a Jason Biggs character?

The casting is as good as it gets, imho. Whoever cast this should get to sashay up to at least one awards show and be handed a statue of some sort. Srsly.

The acting is almost uniformly great, too.

And, as you watch more, you get to see the deft, real life way they flesh out what in other hands could have been prison stereotyped characters. MUCH respect for that.

So, A's to A pluses all around for the casting, acting, and writing. What more could you, Mister recumbent on your Barcalounger, semi-hip consumer of video entertainment, want? :awe:

The cherry on top is the lead, name of Taylor Schilling. The more I watched her do her thing, the more I wanted to do mine, if you know what I mean. I would never have predicted that from any prior still photos of her . . . she just has a way, imho. She's a damn good actress, perfect at the center of this series.

Just saw The Jinx. Pretty wild documentary about Robert Durst.

With money you can get away with a lot.

Spoiler alert:

I still can't get over how that Texas jury believed that creep was just a harmless old coot.

Kingsman: The Secret Service - 8.5/10

This movie was a lot of fun. Basically a modern take on James Bond without trying to be dark and serious.

So I was going to watch a movie but technology failed me...

Why is Open Range not available on BRD yet? To clarify, I have found some international versions that I may order but it has not been officially released in the US. I found this one to be an excellent film and it's not old so why the snub??

interesting thought:
would you have watched Fury Road if it wasn't a Max Mad movie?
ie: just another dystopian movie staring Charlize Theon (who I didn't even recognize)

my answer: no, I would not have watched it. it was the Mad Max hype that bought this sheep in
