I hope she isn't under 12 or so as there is just a bit of violence.

Had someone bring a baby to ours and sitting right up front but she didn't last long before as it got too loud and people make me sad when they do that.

8. She handled it fine after the first scary scene. Pretty much what I expected. And she slept like a baby. She is very good at separating real from.make believe.

Don't worry my 10 year old son stayed home. He gets scared to easily. And would have had nightmares for weeks.

Movie was good. Same formula as the original but with less emotional attachment to the characters. So, the original was better.

Agreed. Can't believe it's going to hold title of biggest opening weekend ever.

The wife wanted to go tonite, but I didn't want to I guess.

I expected as much, watching the Stanley Cup and eating some fried chicken and drinking a beer I guess.

Abandon all hope, ye who enter here.

Is it anywhere as funny as Anchorman? No. Nowhere near.
The most "play it safe" film i have had to watch in many years, i think anyone oevr the age of 15 will find it horrible, for those younger than, the "dick on the face" gag might give you a few giggles.

5/10 and i'm being generous.

I'm very generous with that movie as the only genre spoof movie that I find tolerable. I absolutely HATE "Scary Movie" and all the spin-offs ("Epic Movie," "Date Movie," etc). You kinda have to watch it back to back with the movies it's spoofing to get a lot of the jokes ("Walk the Line," "Ray," etc).

In particular, I recall these things being pretty funny:
Over-doing the father's disappointment/disapproval
Toying with you when you know someone is going to die
Pretending that their concocted disability is as bad as blindness
Using adults to play their younger selves and calling themselves out
Exaggerating the "Beatlemania" reaction of his fans (like "Top Secret!")

People over 15 aren't likely to get any of that because they aren't familiar with the source tropes.

Now, for a bad comedy movie see "Grandma's Boy."

Edit: in case it isn't obvious, I thought he was talking about "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story," which I also associate with Will Ferrel thanks to John C. Reilly. Sorry.

Oh shit I forgot about that (Terminator Genisys).

I was thinking Star Wars in December but yeah Genisys should have a good chance.

It's PG-13 so it has a chance. (EDIT: Wait ... still no word on rating?)

My wife's cousin (established young actor that is now older and not getting much good work) read for a part in it (voice of an AI) but didn't get it. He did read the script and said it was "solid". So, I have some confidence that it will atleast not be crap.

The biggest problem that I have is deciding on 3D or 2D. I just saw JW in 3D and found it distracting more than anything else. It's the reason why I rarely see movies in 3D and I usually kick myself in the nuts every few years to see if it has gotten better. Right now, if I go see it I will do so in 2D. And if it turns out to be epic, I will be back for a 3D viewing.

3D .... I have to think that these movies need to be shot in 60 or 90 fps. It's almost as though my brain can not process lower frame rates when it is 3D. Thank god they stopped having crap jump out at you in the movies. I think JW didn't do that once atleast. Everything seemed to be behind the screen instead of in front of it. There is also something weird with focusing on what is important in a scene. My eye tracking seems to get all messed up. Maybe that's an issue with being to close to the screen as in theaters you are not at 1.5x the diagonal in terms of viewing distance. I'd go so far as to say that I am typically at 1x and probably just under that.

50 shades of gray - 2/10 - movie was just different than i expected but it also sucked. wasn't nearly as graphic as i expected due to the hype it received. acting was god awful all around. the chick wasn't even hot too. and the way it ended ... wtf. but then my wife told me there are 3 books and that was just 1 of them. needless to say i won't be watching anymore if they make them.

weekend at bernies - 8/10 - bought this on amazon on bluray a while back when it was $5 and got around to watching it. wife had never seen it. i probably hadn't seen it since i was like 15 years old. movie still holds up very nicely. definitely caught a lot of sexual references that i didn't remember before lol. has an awesome 80's vibe to it too.

Jurassic World - 6/10 - (+5 points for dinosaurs, +1 for Pratt). I wanted to like this movie, and overall I enjoyed it...only for the dinos. The story was horrendous if not a reflection on our world and its greed. There was nothing smart about this movie, no 'lessons' learned from the other movies (characters actions). The characters were severely unlikeable, except Pratt - which surprises me in a place such as this, he was the only character they gave any brains to.

I did like how they used the hologram to distract the raptor. Absolutely hated the stereotypical gotta test this for the military guy.
Also - wtf all that high tech and they don't have anything better than crap walkie talkies that can't communicate through things and stop working conveniently?

Had this been a B movie, it would have been a great movie, but it wasn't. It is only my love of dinosaur movies that I rate it as high as I did. I really didn't even think it was a good action movie. Sadly, with the box office #'s, we can expect Jurassic Planet any time now.

JP3 was on tv today and i had it on while doing some other stuff. that movie is so fucking bad. i don't see how anyone could put it over part 2. and part 2 is no masterpiece either, that was on after and i watched some of that too.

but 3 ... holy shit it's so bad. the whole pteradactyl thing and how dude uses a parachute that somehow magically can go upwards to rescue that stupid kid. so much bad in that movie.

JP3 was one big chase scene and it works. Maybe not for everyone and no it isn't a great movie by any means, but it had tons of dino time and there was at least a legit reason for the things happening. The final scenes were great. JP2 was just bad, dino in the city yada yada. JW ranks up there with that stupidity - which of course it stole from all 3 films at some points.

That being said, there are much worse movies out there than any of these.

yeah i disagree, 2 was way better than part 3. 3 was just so bad. there is nothing good about it. even the dinosaurs look like crap compared to the other ones.

that scene on the boat ... "lets all lock ourselves in this cage while our boat is about to sink" ... had to facepalm at that. then at the end, they have their "exchange" with the raptors. so bad. no clue how you can say the final scenes are great, with it ending like another d-day. so retarded.

good thing they just HAPPENED to be at the same beach on the entire island where the guy with the megaphone was yelling for doctor grant, at the same time.

Monsters: Dark continent - 5/10

This is the sequel to Monsters, which was actually a pretty good, very low budget film. It started slowly but gradually dropped clues to keep you interested and had a big reveal at the end. I'd give the original 7/10. Maybe 8/10 for originality. This version had a lot more sfx but it didn't have the mystery, tension and intrigue of the first.

Seventh Son - 5/10

This wasn't an awful movie although some the acting from Jeff Bridges was over the top most of the time. It was a mostly standard good v. evil type flick but the sfx were good. Not great, but good. Some of the scenery and cinematography was very nice as well. The story had some twists which weren't expected but didn't really shock you when you found out. I wouldn't pay anything to see it but it's a decent movie for watching in the background.

Still not as make believe as the second JP where you can go over a cliff in the rear half of an RV and hold onto a rope goes through the whole RV and when the RV finally goes over the cliff you just hold on and the RV will fall all around you without taking you with. Also the gymnastics Jeff Goldblum's daughter does were dreadful.

What i am trying to say is this movie is a piss poor performance perpetuated by a lack of realism at every turn.

In Bruges
8/10.

Fantastic film. Weird ending. The ending isn't bad, but not great. But aside from that, it's pretty cool. It's like a Wes Anderson film mixed with Guy Ritchie. Guy Ritchie like plot, but not the fast dialogue and ultra quick cuts. I loved the look of the film. Great selective focus and color balance.
I love films that has scenes wait for the reaction after dialogue. I could imagine the whole crew working methodically on everything.
Gleason, Ferrel, and Fiennes were awesome.

Galaxy Quest - 9/10: This was really good when I first saw it, and is still great. It is not serious and still awesome. Never give up; never surrender!

Nightcrawler - 8/10

Was excited to see this on Netflix as the theater in the town I was living in at the time, wasn't showing it.

Very well done movie. Surprised to see Bill Paxton in this movie, but it was a good part for him. Jake Gyllenhaal kills it as a super creepy guy. I found the chase scene in this to be better than I remember the chase scene from Drive being.

Ending kinda ruined it for me though.
You would think that when the cop interviews Lou they would want to get a warrant and search his computers. Especially after making the PD look bad already by allowing him to be in an active crime scene multiple times (I was thinking specifically the shooting with pictures and bullet holes in the fridge and obviously the triple homicide).

Anyway, wish there were more movies like this than Jurassic World tbh.

Jurassic World
7.5/10

It gets such a high rating because it's been the most awesome stupid movie of the year. It's like pacific rim all over again. Sure, the movie was not super great and it didn't hold much to the first, but it had DINOSAURS and EXPLOSIONS and RAPTORS CHASING THINGS. I'd say more, but spoilers. Also, .5 taken off for MERCEDES MERCEDES MERCEDES and that stupid Samsung Innovations Center. Sure, it's realistic, but a bit too much for me.

Only two things that stood out in a much more negative light to me. True spoilers ahead, don't take the risky click. You'll regret it.
Problem one was the assistant lady that died by pterodactyl and then the waterosaur thing. Sure, it made a cool scene, but you don't feel sorry for her at all. No backstory or anything. Maybe the producers didn't want any traumatizing deaths. PROBLEM TWO WAS THE ENDING OF THE MOVIE! Sure, the giant sea dino coming up and eating MUTO-dino was fikken cool, but I think it is about as ex machina as you can get. Sure, I'll enjoy it movie, but you can't make me happy to enjoy it.

The Station Agent -- 8/10
Stars Peter Dinklage back before he was famous for GoT. Had a couple really funny parts, and definitely had the "independent comedy" feel to it. Liked it quite a bit.

One of most favorite movies. A true gem, shot through with humanity, but never in a treacly or pandering way. And it happens to star three actors -- Peter Dinklage, Partricia Clarkson, and Bobby Carnivale -- each of which, for somewhat different reasons, I happen to be particularly fond.

i'd give it a 6/10. i'm not fond of "amnesia" plotlines.

it's just more of the same we've seen before, and the "great reveal" at the end is badly fabricated and ineffective.

but .. it wasn't horrible. i guess if you are new to this genre it would be ok for a viewing.

I see there are a lot of mixed reviews for Chappie. Well, I've watched about 30 mins of this movie, and I'm not sure if I'm going to finish it.

It's fsckin' awful. 3/10 so far. The writing is bad, the acting is horrible, and the scene setup is a knockoff of the director's own previous movie, District 9, but without the good parts.

I'm beginning to think that they just can't write dialogue. Elysium had the same awful dialogue as Chappie. District 9 didn't, but apparently most of the main character's dialogue was ad-libbed, so maybe that explains the discrepancy.
