The blonde sentient android kicks ass. And theres lots of stuff with regular androids and human interactions, and how humans cope with their impending obsolescence. Not just in the workforce, but also their places in their own families.

And that would be just fine, if they didn't introduce some "special sentient" crap AND have some dude chasing it. I have been watching more episodes, but I still dislike that sub plot. I am a bit particular about my science fiction though. =(

Orange is the New Black Season 3 -- 3/10
This show has lost both me and my wife. She always liked it better than I did, but even she said she won't be watching next season.

The biggest conflicts this season were
that company buying out the prison and wanting to cut hours and save money by outing the non-Jewish people eating Kosher meals, and then the Asian chick fighting with that religious Norma cult. Crazy eyes was like 90% less crazy. There wasn't really anything with any of the main characters that had any substance to it, it all felt like filler. And maybe I missed it during a brief period of shut-eye, but where did baby daddy go? He was at that apartment one episode and then AFAIK, just gone without explanation.
Don't get me wrong, I didn't much care for S2 either, and S1 was merely "above average" to me, but S3 is pretty bad. We won't be back for S4.

I think there's a reason for it, aside from simply having a 'bad guy'. I dont know where you are so I dont want to ruin anything. I dont have a direct analogy for it, but similar to how people interact with people differently on the internet vs real life. How would people treat their property if they were alive? In a way its like looking back at slavery. And theres something else special about the sentient androids that's central to the back half of the season. Anyways, theres an Humans thread to discuss details.

The Gift - 8/10
The build up of tension and dread was very well done. The lighting and sound was a little off in some scenes. At the beginning of the movie, I didn't guess how the middle would go, but I definitely knew what was coming at the end based on the middle third. Overall, a good movie that may not be what you expect from the trailer.

i've been watching The Young Montalbano (tv)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2259665/reference

which is the prequel to the previous Inspector Montalbano (tv)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0920489/reference

same characters, different actors.
one of the few shows an italian can be proud of, these are all in the original language, with subtitles.
each feature-lenght episode is a entire story, generally of two cases, one more crime-heavy and one more satirical.

i don't blame you if you hate subtitles and don't want to watch them, but since i speak italian, i don't have this problem.
well acted, well made, and generally very well written - the writer, Andrea Camilleri, has a talent for crime stories that somewhat reminds me of Agatha Christie - i recommend these, both, to anyone who wants to get away from the usual US show where every cop is a badass and every case is on the razor's edge.

my rating : 7.5/10 each, take a point off if the foreign language annoys you.

X-Men: Days of Future Past - Rogue Cut - 9/10

liked it a lot more than the movie version.
makes a little more sense tho they should have added that they used Rogue to give the sentinels the ability to copy powers.

but it still doesn't explain how Kitty got her time travel powers.

and the ending is still puzzling like in the movie version:
mystique impersonates Stryker and rescues Wolverine?

so does that mean mystique is responsible for wolverine's painful Adamantium procedure?
if so, why did she do it?

The People vs George Lucas - 9/10

Very well edited documentary that dives deep into the George Lucas Star wars phenomenon. It both attacks and defends the trials and tribulations that were spawned from the prequels. Goes into the hysteria and incredible cultural hysteria that was the original trilogy. I really think anyone that is even a remote Star Wars fan should watch it.

Sopranos - 9/10 ... Just started season 3. Definitely worth watching. Wikipedia says this:
"The Sopranos has been regarded by some as the greatest television series of all time".
I can definitely agree. But if I give Breaking Bad a 10/10 ..... Sopranos just isn't that good. If I never saw Breaking Bad, Sopranos would be a 10/10. But then I'd see Breaking Bad and give that a 11/10. See where this is going?

Is Sopranos the first TV show with season long story arcs? And some arcs that go multi-season?

Anyone with Amazon Prime can get Sopranos for free!

Coherence: 8/10 Small sci-fi movie about the effects of a comet that passes close to Earth. Pretty well done all things considered.

I'll Follow You Down: 7/10 Movie about time travel, starring Haley Joel Osment and Gillian Anderson. Like a lot of movies, it could have been better, but its watchable.

Catastrophe Season 1: 8.5/10 Pretty funny TV show about a one week stand that results in a pregnancy. Amazon Original.

Fringe, seasons 4-5: 7.5/10

2 main story arcs with the 2 universes and the observers. Some good drama and cool pseudo-science tech. A decent series ending.

Rogue S01-02 - 9/10

Season 2 was better than 1 and 3 looks like it will be better than 2. This is what True Detective should have been. The acting and plot for Season 1 leaves something to be desired but the concept is good. Season 2 I think is much better. Better acting, more stronger plot, etc. Just better all around. But that's my personal opinion. The concept changes substantially between 1 and 2 so you may feel differently.

This show reminds me of a cross between the best of American and UK crime dramas, which makes sense since it's Canadian.

When I first watched the Sopranos I thought it was one of the finest works of fiction in any medium in decades. The serialized TV game has, to some extent, moved on since then, and to me Breaking Bad and Mad Men are better. The quality of the Sopranos also dipped considerably in its final seasons. Still, it's great overall and definitely something everyone with a taste for that sort of thing should see.

Same here, more or less.

Agreed.

For me, Deadwood remains the best, followed closely by Breaking Bad.

Mad Men was great at first for its fascinating and in depth portrayal of a time and place - cigarettes smoked everywhere by everyone , daytime booze in the office, the unthinking but almost impenetrable "white males only" club -- that existed not all that long ago in America but which has changed so drastically in just a few short decades.

However, the story lines in subsequent seasons were boring, and the stilted acting in so many of the two person exchanges was shockingly sub-par. Don't believe me? Go back and watch with new eyes.

han shot first
Industrial Light and MONEY
Jar JAr

on the other hand, Lucas has been really supportive of fan films, instead of suing them and shutting them down like other studios.
he even created a site for them and included sounds and special effects they could use.

but I only give it 6/10

Yeah cannot really disagree. A lot of nothing going on.
Seems like they really lost their direction.

I'm not sure I agree with Breaking Bad, but definitely agree on Deadwood. The dialog was often amazing. I don't know if it was but it sounded true to the period and could often be almost lyrical. Spartacus was also like that. Even when the story wasn't great, I always loved the dialog.

Seems Jenji Kohan has that problem. Same thing happened with Weeds after 2-3 seasons, but even the middle and late seasons of Weeds were better than S3 of Orange is the New Black.

Plus, Mary-Louise Parker. :$

what flick are you talking about? the image/link is broken for me.

Is it this one?

Because that movie is freaking awesome.

I never mention that one, but he he.

She just drags the kid in there at one point, he didn't know what hit him.

Odd little flick to watch now and then.

Recently re watched all the Deadwoods myself.

The wife was so miffed off when they took those off the air.

But it had pretty much ran it's course.

Was pretty much Vulgar Shakespearian, and amusing.
