Tried watching Dr. Quinn since I ran out of good shows.

It sucks. I dont know how they managed to stay on the air for years. Maybe it improves after the pilot......

Spectre - 7/10
Actually watched this last weekend. They tied together all the Craig movies more than I expected. It was hard to ignore that they recycled a lot of Quantum elements, but they did a better attempt at keeping Bond relevant than I expected.

I'm perfectly okay if they don't make another Bond anytime soon. The franchise has been long in the tooth for a while now.

(I knew "C" looked familiar, he was Hall in Band of Brothers)

Last while:

Sicario - 10/10
Holy fucking shit. Tension-laden thriller than never really lets you breathe the entire duration.
Gorgeous cinematography, amazing score.
Dark, brutal, and so many layers of gray.
Blunt, Brolin, and Del Toro are all fantastic.
Easily the best movie i've seen since Ex Machina and Leviathan this year.

The Great Outdoors (1988) - 6/10
Fairly amusing, with too much stupid and annoying thrown in.

Inside Out - 9/10
I think this is the best thing Pixar's ever done TBH. Goddamn onions everywhere.

Trainwreck - 7/10
Not that bad actually.

Tomorrowland - 7/10
I really liked parts of this, concept especially.

Results - 7/10
Some perfectly delightful fucked up relationship stories. Cobie <3

Knock Knock - 7/10
So much insanity. Wildly entertaining movie.

Fantastic Four - 3/10
Good gourd. Wow.

Self/less - 5/10
I like the premise. The rest of the movie, well, it has problems.

The Man from U.N.C.L.E. - 7/10
Style over substance, all the way.

Spectre - 6.5/10
I think this is definitely the weakest of the Daniel Craig Bonds.
Still entertaining because Bond, but honestly so disjointed and disappointing, i dunno. Maybe really only deserves 6/10. Sooo long, needed to be trimmed a LOT.

Youth - 7/10
The Paolo Sorrentino direction was rather evident. Felt so much like The Great Beauty in many ways.

Room - 7/10
Brie Larson is incredible.
First act was superb. Second act i just didn't really like so much, and felt a bit long, though it might be been the theatre circumstances.

Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back - 8/10
I finally understand the love for Star Wars.
After watching the awful first three, and a less than impressive fourth, this was fantastic.
Script and direction was so much tighter and cleaner, and everything felt like it had a place and made sense.
One more to see until the new one. Actually excited to see VI now

Sicario 9/10. It's just damn good. Love Benecio del Toro. Another persuasive commentary on the futility of the war on drugs.

The Martian - 7/10. Good light entertainment. It's basically the book but without 3/4's of the scientific detail.

Taken 3: 0.5/10. I turned it off after about half an hour. The acting was just so bad and so cheesey, I just couldn't take it.

Guardians of the Galaxy: 8/10. Watched this film for the 3rd or 4th time. It gets better every time I watch it. Looking forward to the second one, when it eventually comes out.

Heroes reborn: turned it off after 20 mins. I used to love the originals...maybe I just got too old for that stuff.

Her -- 8/10
Kind of a weird movie about a dude (Joaquin Phoenix) that falls in love with an OS voiced by Scarlett Johansson. It was sort of creepy, but probably not too far fetched. It was quite good.

Extract (Mike Judge, 2009) - 6.5/10
Not sorry I watched it. Has a good bit of Judge's observational flavor that really appeals to me but just wasn't funny enough to watch again and again like his other stuff. Those horrible crude comedies will get more laughs for most people.

It's supposed to be the spiritual sequel to Office Space but with management as the protagonist. Though the plot is resolved, the ending has a lot of pointless loose ends that still prove distracting (are they just going to leave their car? what happens when this person tells that person?). I think Gene Simmons was miscast as an ambulance chasing lawyer.

Traffic in Souls (1913) 5/10 but a movie worth watching as the theme; luring innocent young women in to coerced prostitution a hundred+ years ago; a social problem that is still rampart today. Two immigrants from Sweden are offered 'legitimate work' by what appear (except for the subtitles) to be legitimate gentlemen but really represent the seedy side of humanity. This film made in 3 days for around $5,000 made Universal a major player in motion picture era.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traffic_in_Souls

It is an early silent film and worth viewing for the history alone; as silent films go it is not exceptional; as the precursor to Hollywood's believable story lines (selling an unfolding fiction is real) it is a must see classic.

The subject of this film was banned by the prudish Hays commission; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motion_Picture_Production_Code it is worth considering 88 minutes of your time.

Planet of the Apes (1968) 8/10

Saw this for the 100th time altho I have not seen in at least 20 years. I am still amazed that this movie was rated "G". Still mostly holds up and Nova is still supersexy.

Are All Men Pedophiles? - 7/10 - Documentary about the perception of men and their interactions with children and how now it doesn't really matter what your intentions are most people have been so scared by the media that any interaction at all can be construed as a child raper. It hit many areas that as I man concern me including the newer reports of children being given felonies for sexting and trading pics. Lost a point because they spent too much time on the different 'ages' and what is actually pedophilia vs. other forms of children 'love' (like infantphilia) rather than the overall issue. Scary that in Africa there is a country that has 9 as age of consent(but again, that is just personal beliefs).

Into the Badlands on AMC 7/10

THis is a weekly series.

post apocalyptic war.
the area is split among 7 people called Barons and their followers. guns are outlawed. everyone has swords.
Chinese style kung fu action.

the star of the show is the top soldier for the drug baron.
1st episode- the oil baron is causing problems. the drug baron's son wants war but the drug baron needs her oil to run the machinery to process his poppy seeds into opium.

the fights are well choreographed but they have the same weakness of old Chinese kung fu movies, mainly a gang attacks the star one at a time instead of all at once.

and when the intro said guns are outlawed, I immediately thought how did they enforce that?

even the bandits that roam the country side and loyal to no one don't have guns. WTF?

plus no nudity. guess that's a AMC thing?

I thought they did a pretty good job with the swordfight with all 4 guys attacking at once.

Haha I thought the same but immediately thought, who cares, more sword and kung fu fights!

I thought the fights were incredibly good for a tv show and I hope they can keep this level of action up for the whole series. The plot and pacing could use some work. There was a 5 minute sequence in the middle in a tattoo parlor that I literally fell asleep 4 times during. I kept having to rewind to see what I missed then I fell asleep again.

It was Moriarty! Honestly, the movie was worth it just for him and Christoph Waltz.

The several minute single shot scene in Mexico City was pretty well done. The fight scene on the train. The Spectr meeting and subsequent car chase with Drax the Destroyer were great too.

I'm really starting to wonder about people's expectations with these movies. This was almost as good as you can expect. From Russia with Love, Goldeneye, and Casino Royale were a bit better, but you're not going to get Casablanca with these.

This one was more or less a very strong nod to From Russia With Love (in my top 2 favorites of Bond flicks, as well as a bit of OHMSS: #1!), but, in the end, Spectre was mostly OK.

I give it a 6.5/weak 7 out of 10....in comparing Bond flicks among themselves. It was better than the previous 2 in large part because at least the Bond plotting was finally here: Spectre, Blofeld, Frau Farbissina/Krebs (if but only briefly!), but this is still more of a Bourne movie than a Bond movie and plot-wize: these most recent 3 films have all been the exact same plot, with the exact same villain and the exact same emo/unrequited childhood love from the MI6 people origins....give me an effing break.
And this:

Bond quits/is fired
Bond goes rogue
Bond is reinstated
Bond quits at the end/MI6 is dead

I'm on record as saying that I really like Craig as Bond (he plays Ian Flemming's Bond better than all others have--yes, including Connery), and Casino Royale is in the top 5 (top 3 for me), but they have all been stale on follow up.

These are entertaining flicks, great action movies overall, but just don't feel like Bond. There is much to admire about the 2 Mendes turns: gorgeous cinematography for one, but they do feel quite a bit removed from the genre.

Ant-Man http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0478970/reference

best film since Edge of Tomorrow.

i generally hate michael douglas, i think he's been spent for 10+ years. this film is a massive return to form for him; he seems to magically have stopped phoning it in, and committed to the role.
paul rudd is fine* as ant-man, but douglas is the lead man.
the film is pleasantly devoid of any typical hollywood bs, and just about everything is between entertaining and really good.

not a revolutionary film, but a solid 8/10 - good film that everyone should enjoy.

*(i kept thinking i was watching some better version of Ben Afflec)

Since I don't think we have a thread for upcoming shows, I just wanted to drop a note here about 2 that might be interesting.

South of Hell will air all seven episodes on WE network on Nov 27.

Unforgettable's 4th season premiers the same day on A&E

Sarcasm? The promos for it looked god awful.
Not sure if you mean my comment or the video, but I'm going to guess it's the former.

No, wasn't sarcastic. There are definitely some scenes where the lead actress is just stupidly silly. And those were the things that tended to put me off about the show. But it gets progressively better, especially once you're invested in the story.

I don't like musicals but this is more along the lines of Galavant - if you happened to catch that around the holidays last year. The songs are mostly pretty comical so even though there might be 3 or 4 songs per episode, they have entertaining lyrics.

I was kind of surprised that I didn't hate this movie given how poorly it did critically. I didn't think it was great... perhaps worth a watch. I think I'd give it my rating of "RedBox it!" ...if you like Sci-Fi thrillers.

The Man from U.N.C.L.E. - 7/10
Style over substance, all the way.

This is kind of the same as the previous movie. I didn't really expect to care for this one given its ho-hum reviews, but it wasn't too bad. The main characters were fun, which is what really saved the movie in my eyes. Although, I do think it's amusing that a British guy is playing an American guy, and an American guy is playing a Russian guy. All we need is Johnny Depp as an Indian and we're set! (To be fair, Armie Hammer is part Russian.)

I assume you're watching it on Blu-ray? ...or really anything new? If that's the case, it might be worthwhile to check out what crap George Lucas changed as he re-released them. There's the famous part from Episode IV with Han and Greedo, and the insertion of the "NOOOOO!!!!" in Return of the Jedi (I won't say where.)
