Since TV shows are apparently included here, I'll throw out Numb3rs and Leverage as two of my favorites in recent history. Both well worth watching.
As for movies... A few I've seen recently:
Parallels - 8/10 if you can handle an abrupt ending with no sign of a conclusion in sight. It was developed as the pilot for a TV series that never started, released on Netflix as a "standalone" movie. I would definitely try the series if it ever appeared. I don't know if it could keep my interest long-term as a series, but it was worth the time spent watching as-is.
Primer - 5/10? I stumbled on this indie(?) movie on Netflix, the blurb sounded reasonably entertaining, and I have nothing but time while at work, so I figured why not. Reasonably entertaining, though not really exceptional in any way. Interesting story. Worth watching if you can't find anything else to watch, but I probably wouldn't recommend it as a "must see", or even "should see".
The Last Days On Mars - 3/10. I admit, I should have read the details. I went in expecting a sci-fi adventure of sorts. Turns out, it's more of a sci-fi zombie horror of sorts (although not particularly scary, in my opinion). I watched it until the end, mostly because it was entertaining, but the horror type isn't really my thing. I would say it was well within the realm of mediocrity. Suspension of disbelief (and possibly intelligence for a few bits) is definitely a requirement.
Helix - 2/10. Watched the pilot. Didn't really care what happened next, the pilot didn't even catch my interest. Not sure why.
Superfast! - 9/10. If you're like me and felt that the Fast & Furious series was more like a spoof/comedy, then you'll likely find this spoof of F&F to be as hilarious as I did. Entirely stupid, but I also was laughing through almost the entire movie.
Automata - 6/10. What can I say. Antonio Banderas in a sci-fi setting had me intrigued. It was actually pretty good, in my opinion.
Equilibrium - 3/10. Netflix said I would like it. The reviews said if you liked The Matrix, I would like it. I need to stop listening to Netflix and their reviews. If you just want to shut your brain off and watch the action, I suppose it wasn't awful, but there wasn't really anything else there.
On my "I can't believe I just paid money for that..." list in recent history: Dying Of The Light, Cloud Atlas and Kingsman. None of which I felt were worth watching, much less paying to watch.
I've got plenty of time to watch TV and movies at work, so I'm sure I'll be back with more soon, as long as it's on Netflix...
