Batman (1989) - 7/10 - For what it was, it wasn't bad. I just had to keep saying to myself "It's the 80s. It's the 80s."

Live Free and Die Hard - 8/10 - I'm a sucker for these kinds of movies, so I liked it.

Mad Max Fury Road - 6/10 - This was my first Mad Max movie. It wasn't bad, but I'm not sure what the hell I just watched.

Regarding Batman. I watched it a year ago maybe. What struck me is that on VHS it probably looked amazing. In higher resolution, the obviousness of the set pieces is apparent. You could just tell it was a set that it was filmed on. The movie itself is friggin awesome though. Story matters, not set pieces. This is a 10/10 for nostalgia. To someone that has never seen it, I can see a 7/10.

Mad Max - I agree that it is overrated. I give it about a 4/10. Good for demoing a home theater (thoughts in his head are pushed through the overhead channels in Atmos!) and not much else. Enough low frequency effects to show off subwoofers also.

Watched this on Amazon Prime last night. It's a New Zealand film about a group of vampires that live together in present day, and they are followed around by a documentary crew. It is a unique take on vampires and has some really funny moments. I would recommend it for the laughs.

This is yet another remake of Anne of Green Gables. However, this one is not just a lighthearted CBC show. They've partnered with Netflix, and interestingly, the main writer and showrunner is Moira Walley-Becket who was a writer for Breaking Bad.

Consequently, although this show is still overall quite positive and appropriate for young girls everywhere, there are some distinctly dark scenes that move this solidly into the PG category, whereas previous incarnations were all pretty much G. No, it's no Breaking Bad, but it does spice up the show somewhat, fortunately tastefully.

Right now it's only available in Canada, but as of May, it will be streamed on Netflix.

One interesting tidbit is that one episode will be directed by Amanda Tapping of SG-1 fame.

Ghost in the shell 3/10

HOLY SH*T it was so bad. SJ played Major so terribly wrong. Anyone who seen the original (Anime) will tell you it's disgusting.
However to someone who never seen the original will probs like it because the special affects is your typical superhero movie. Lame.

So sad, I expected the movie to fail and it did.

Patriots Day - 9/10 - very intense movie and was very well done. I really liked how they weaved in actual footage seamlessly into the movie. There was a lot of stuff I didn't remember too or didn't know happened, and stuff that was legit because they showed footage. I'm sure they over dramatized some of it but still it was very entertaining.

Haven't we heard and seen this story before, a zillion times? Portrayal of spaceship living and working is decent enough but this story zooms to the bottom and starts to dig.

I love the GitS universe and have all of the movies, TV show and the manga.

I think they did a good job bringing that universe to live action. They focused on the Major and her backstory. They gave heavy nod to GitS (1995), some to innocents and some to the TV anime. It was not a "Marvel" movie but it did deliver in creating a backdrop to build on in a second movie. 8/10.

Fantastical Beasts and Where to Find Them - 7/10 - While I kind of enjoyed the Harry Potter films, I wasn't a huge fan, and they got a little long in the tooth after awhile. This being in the same world was interesting and I enjoyed it.

I just finished watching it and they should have cut out around 30-40 minutes of this. So much of the beginning was fluff. Plus there's so many things in this movie that just make me face palm but that seems to happen in all Harry Potter movies for me, like a magic guy not having a proper lock on his brief case full of creatures that allows them to easily get out. I'm not much of a Harry Potter fan anyways, only watched this because my girlfriend wanted to watch it. These movies aren't my type of movies anyways. This is a 5/10 for me.

Phantasm Ravager - 5/10 - fans of the series will find it OK if not good, everyone else can skip it.

It was nice to see the gang one last time, there were some decent set pieces and fun dark humor but it doesn't explain or resolve anything and we're left knowing that will never happen.

Ah I wanna see that! I think Peter Berg does justice to American heroes pretty well (e.g. Lone Survivor) so I'm thinking I'll like this one of his.

Watched Serenity for the third time recently, right after watching Firefly. About 5 years had passed since the last viewing and I'd forgotten how awesome that movie was. 10/10

Desierto - 8/10 - fucked up movie about some redneck dude who hunts down illegals crossing the border.

Solace - 8/10 - weird movie about a psychic who helps the FBI out with a serial killer. I thought it was just kind of weird but I really liked it.

Random side note - I only rented these because there was absolutely nothing at Redbox that I hadn't seen that I wanted to see and they looked somewhat interesting and rated decent on IMDB. Turns out both movies have the same lead character and I had no clue about that until I popped in the second movie.

Rewatching Person of Interest, one of my favorite TV shows - 10/10. I can't believe they cancelled this incredible, intelligent show in favor of dumbed down crap like Big Brother.
