i watched:
The Ides Of March -
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1124035/reference
political drama directed by George Clooney, and starring everyone. Clooney is the - mostly absent - villain, Ryan Gosling is the "hero", Philip Seymour Hoffman is the main antagonist, Paul Giamatti is the devil, Marisa Tomei is "we had some spare casting budget".
Gosling is a junior campaign manager in the democratic primaries, trying to get Clooney's character to win. Giamatti is a dirty cheating SoB who gets Gosling in trouble. Then Gosling wises up, and it's his turn to become the bad guy.
Basically, a 1:1 copy of the plot of a film [whose name i dont remember] i watched years ago. Superbly acted, but lacking any memorable scenes, the clone plot means i was bored most of the time. The resolution and character arc are also implausible and weak.
A decent way to spend an evening, nothing more.
7/10
and also
The Founder -
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4276820/reference
"Birdman" Michael Keaton is The Founder, AKA Roy Kroc, sleazy salesman and father of the McDonalds multinational. Nick "Ron Swanson" Offerman is Dick McDonald, original owner of the burger business.John Caroll Lynch (never heard of him before) is Dick's brother Mac McDonald.
While working relentlessly in his door-to-door sales job, Roy meets the McDonald brothers, with Mac being the friendlier one, and Dick the wise, cautious one. They get in business together, and it goes well, but not well enough. Roy becomes greedy and he clashes with the McDonalds.
This was a much more enjoyable film. The pacing isn't the best and the film could use some romanticization, but the story was very interesting, painting an unusual picture of Roy Kroc, where he's alternatively both the hero and the villain. Solid work from Michael Keaton, again.
7.5/10 - a well spent evening.
