"I'm Not a Robot" 10/10

I'm not that into RomComs, but man this was good.

Scientist invents a robot capable of emotion. He patterned it after his ex-girlfriend. It's supposed to be tested by his primary investor, but it malfunctions, so the scientist recruits his ex-girlfriend to play the role of the robot. The investor starts to fall in love with the "robot" and thinks he's going crazy for loving a machine, but she can't reveal who she is.

It's a skimpy plot, but the execution by the lead actors was incredible.

This is something someone like Cappuccino NEEDS to see.

I'm even moar addicted to Travelers now. Dude it's pretty good actually. I mean, it ain't some artsy masterpiece like The Thin Red Line or something, but for an action-drama sci-fi show it's pretty decent. Ah crap, I just looked, I only have one more episode to go (and I'm nearly finished with the second-to-last). As my boy Vader would say: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Nothin that good at the movies, IMO, but I'd see Molly's Game (I gots Moviepass, woooo). And The Commuter too, cause Liam Neeson kicks fkn ass. Weird though that the only screen showing Commuter at my theater is a Super EMAX one. Just wouldn't expect it for that movie I guess.

Never planned to watch this thinking it was made for 5 a year old but I read a thread on Reddit about part 2 having a 100% score so I figured what the hell. Very cute well directed movie that any age should be able to enjoy. It is on Netflix streaming atm.

2017 was a good year for watching movies, had 10 to 12 screeners and about another 5 heavily discounted tickets. 2018 starting off good too, heading to screening of 12 strong tonight.

Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams on Amazon Prime. https://www.amazon.com/Philip-K-Dic...075NV935S/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

10 episode sci fi short stories from Philip K. Dick. Each one is a different episode with new characters. I liked all of them but there were some diffiniate stand outs. Autofac, Human is (which stars Bryan Cranston) and The hood maker are my top 3 so far.

The Hood Maker - 8/10
Impossible Planet - 8/10
The Commuter - 7/10
Crazy Diamond 7-10
Real Life - 8/10
Human Is - 9/10
Autofac - 8.5/10
Safe and Sound - 7.5/10
The Father Thing 8/10
Kill All Others 7.5/10

The Post

Pretty good movie. Its about business and politics, the newspaper's decision to publish the Pentagon Papers so not likely many here will find it of interest. Not an IC to be found.

12 Strong, very good intense combat sequences. After seeing the war'lite Dunkirk, found this rather satisfying in that regard.

Timecop (1994) - 5/10

Another Van Damme masterpiece that I somehow missed on for over 2 decades. The fight scenes are "ok", Van Damme does the classic split moves, kicks and what not. The acting is sub-par, Van Damme has never been a good actor but even the supporting cast is dry as a chalk erase board. The only decent one was the "futuristic" version of the Antagonist. The Plot was rather cookie cutter, no real depth to it at all. Simply the bad guy being evil with the good guy out for revenge/justice. Really.... it's just a run of the mill 90s action movie. I would hardly classify this as sci-fi. The time travel is simply just a plot device to get to the action scenes. They never go into much detail on the subject except for one glaring foreshadow (which is probably a good thing). Not Van Damme's worse but somewhere in the middle.

This film was uploaded to The Pirate Bay on 16th January 2018 by the creators themselves for completely legal download.

from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Man_from_Earth:_Holocene

If you have never watched The Man From Earth, you should go right now. While it's an entertaining film in itself, it really shows how much you can do with a bit of decent acting and some good dialogue, when your idea is good.
This film is from the same people, with the same lead. It even has a short intro by the director himself, so hopefully this will be at least half as good as the first.

Will let you know as soon as i am done.

ugh ...

after only 11 minutes, i've had enough.

ok, maybe this one sucks, but you should watch the first one - it is surprisingly good.

A Tale of Two Sisters - 10/10

My favorite horror movie of all time. It perfectly blends horror, mystery, and drama with great storytelling, acting, and cinematography all around.

On "THE POST"... I was bored.
Tom Hanks was typical Tom Hanks.
Meryl Streep? We've seen all those Streep acting expressions in soooo many other Streep movies. Nothing new there.
The subject matter was NOT that entertaining or interesting to have an entire movie made about it, despite the huge Hollywood stars or no, it just did not work.
Most of those under 40 probably have no idea what the PENTAGON PAPERS were all about. And certainly had little interest in finding out.
Unlike ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN, this film THE POST was no ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN even though Steven Spielberg probably thought it would be.
I really can't imagine why Spielberg wanted to make this film?
Who really cares?
We all knew Richard Nixon was a creep. That governments lie especially about war.
And it would be hard for young people to relate because the young of today have never experienced a DRAFT or an government order to go fight in a war.
The acting was not that electric nor notable in this film, and that was not so much the blame of the actors. The blame was the poor subject matter and lacking public interest in.
Why Spielberg would do this in the first place is odd. I figure Spielberg just thought governments caught in lies would gain attention and create outrage,
Seriously, are we not far beyond that?
Who does not know by now that politicians lie, presidents lie, and governments lie? Even those of our own?
No need of some movie to point that out....
What the Pentagon Papers exposed, back then, was of no real shock to anyone living in that era.
People already hated that war, and wanted it ended asap.
And while Vietnam dragged on and on year after year with so many American deaths, people knew that war was not going well. That Vietnam was a total disaster.
That the military and politicians told lies daily. And the nightly news could not be trusted.
For gods sake this was why we protested, fled to Canada, burnt draft cards, did drugs, and became hippies.
The Pentagon Papers were not groundbreaking. They just reenforced what most people had already known, back then.
With or without the release of those secret papers, that war the Vietnam war was going nowhere with the American people.
We hated it. We wanted it stopped. We knew we were lied to. We knew the government was covering up the truth. This was far before the pentagon papers.

Blade Runner 2049 7.5/10

Need to watch it again, preferably early in the morning. First time watching it was a little slow and the music soundtrack is bland. Storyline was interesting just seemed a little blah.

Apparently the last thread became too large, so this is a continuation of that thread.

The old thread can be found here: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=211635

Please rate whatever you have watched and give a quick review.

Happy watching! :awe:

Well, the other day I came across the movie Bright on Netflix. Might be overrated to some but I thought it was kinda cool. I mean there are plenty of existing shows with witches, vampires, and werewolves living in modern day society, but hardly do you get one with the whole fantasy mix thrown with your elves, fairies, orcs and such. And plus Will Smith? Thought it was pretty enjoyable overall, 7/10.

I liked the world. I actually thought this was going to be a series, not a movie. I think it would have made a better series.
