Umm.. the movie was never meant to be funny.

The IT Crowd - 8.5/10

The English(and Irish) can make anything look funny. The story centers around 3 characters; 2 IT workers and a Relationship Manager. There not a single episode that I found to be boring.. the tech references are damn funny. Chris O Dowd's t-shirts are amazing as well. Katherine Parkinson.. was meh at first, but grew on me very fast. The best part of this show is Richard Ayode's character.. he plays the character so perfectly, that it is pretty hard to imagine him in real life.

Can't wait for the 5th(and supposedly final) season.

Lots of the comments from the creator of facebook were funny.

The lincoln lawyers - 7/10... heving been a fan of courtroom drama such as A few good men, and my cousin vinney, I had to watch this one. From the beginning of the movie, with the picture and music, it felt like I was watching a B list movie. Throughout the movie, it seemed as if there was a lot of product advertising not found in other movies... A blatent minute maid carton was seen on the table, along with other products shown. But to the movie, Matt M & Marisa T did a nice job each in their respective roles, and Ryan Phillipe continues to be the asshole of a bad guy in nearly every movie hes in. However the story was lacking. normal story about a rich white kid who gets into trouble and hotshot lawyer must get him out... of course the overbearing rich white mother causes much trouble alnog the way... reminds me a 2 hour matlock story. Unfortunately, the character Mr Haller (aka hot shot lawyer) fails to live up to the standard set by the witty tom cruise, and just makes himself out to be the dirtbag who ultimately persues goals whose ends dont justify the means., sure he tried to do the right thing, but it just makes him look untrustworthy in the way he accomplishes his task. Not great, but not terrible for a B flick.

The warriors way - 7.0/10 an action comedy about a ninja in the wild wild west.the story behind this movie could have been so much more. it had great action scenes, but by the end of the movie, you just feel like you should be way more emotionally attached to this story than you ever get.

Pirates of the Carribean: At Worlds end 9.5/10
ok so ive seen this movie a bunch of times, but i finally actually watched it, analytically ... i must admit it is deeper and more involving than I really noticed the first several times. as a whole, it is quite easy to become sympathetic with hte plight of the pirates whom are beinge xterminated and the fight for their existance, and you realize this is more than just about the handful of characters you know. Aside from Jack, whom is sometimes sometimes only in it for himself but sometimes gets reminded to do what is best for everyone, but more insteresting, is the rise and maturing of elizabeth swann, from helpless captive (1st movie) to Pirate King when she ultimately leads them to battle with a speach that only a true born leader could. There is the fall of william turner, who actually becomes more selfish throughout the movie eventually becoming the ultimate betrayer of all, and a fistfull of other characters each interesting and important in their own way. At the end of this movie. I said to myself... why cant we replace "the search for spock" with this movie as it would have been a perfect fit between kahn and the voyage home.

i was wondering if you could recommend a couple good action movies from the last year or two (preferably more recent).

Please Give - 8.5/10: An indie film about a couple (Catherine Keener & Oliver Platt) that buys the furniture from the recently deceased and re-sells it in their store and they end up interacting with the old lady next door and her granddaughters. I liked this movie a lot; it's about relationships and the various ways that people interact with each other and individuals trying to find their place in the world. It's pretty quiet and subtle, but I also found it very funny and touching in parts. Great cast too; big fan of Keener, Platt, and I love Rebecca Hall.

Intacto - 6/10: Sort of an odd tale about people who are apparently very lucky and end up taking the luck of those around them and playing high stakes games of chance. It's an interesting concept, but I thought it did not really hold up well as a narrative and not enough interesting was done with it; I didn't care about the characters and since the entire emotional subplot of the film sort of revolves around what is supposed to be an emotional attachment to some characters, well it did not work. There were some cool scenes and I liked Max Von Sydow as the 'king of fate', but not enough here to make it a great movie.

I watched Dinner for Schmucks the other night. I won't bother reviewing it, but I agree it was better than I expected. Pretty stupid movie, but it was funny

Battle: Los Angeles 7.5/10 - I went into watching this movie with fairly low expectations and I was surprised at how much I liked it. Now it certainly wasn't movie of the year or anything but it was good fun. Might even be worth another watch somewhere down the line.

I did a search for "The Mechanic" and nothing came up. Has anyone seen it? If so, how was it?

The new version? I saw it. It had lots of action and gunfights so that was cool. not really much of a story though.

Yup. Sounds good to me! I like Jason Statham movies a lot.

The Mechanic vs. Battle: Los Angeles (since the guy above reviewed it well...though reviews seemed to say it sucked)? Hmmm...

A-Team - 8/10: I was highly entertained by this. I think I let the stench of the reviews wear off enough for me to actually enjoy it for what it was, a fun movie to watch. Rampage shouldn't give up his day job to become an actor, but I can't complain.

Source Code - 7/10: 7, I guess. Maybe a 6. A little different take on the Quantum Leap style movie, but it's been done before.
Is it just me or did that last 8 minute leap take for fucking EVER?
I'm not sure if I am OK with the ending,
if he took over that guys life then some poor schmuck doesn't get to live out his life simply because Jake G wants his body. What an asshole.
Give it a shot I guess.

Search of this thread didn't bring up a review of the Green Lantern.

I am basically not a comic book character groupie though I do know of the characters. That said, I liked this movie.... or maybe it's that I ♥ Ryan Reynolds. I found him absolutely drool worthy in this movie. The movie itself was a 7/10. I could follow the story alright, it made sense.

The beginning was a bit too cartoonish for my movie partner, but then he settled into watching it.

Also, for the guys, the lead female character and love interest of the Green Lantern is Blake Lively, and she is super easy on the eyes too.

Cool, I have been avoiding this movie due to the reviews, but your review is reassuring. I'm looking forward to watching it now.

Well the guy would have been dead anyways. He died in the explosion in the real world, and he would have been dead in the new alternate world if Jake hadn't taken over his body to save everyone else. So that new life Jake has taken over, never would have even existed if it weren't for Jake.

Bad Teacher - 6/10

It was funny and raunchy but not as good as

Horrible Bosses - 7/10

I thought this was a better movie than Bad Teacher in every way but it wasn't as good as

Rise of the Planet of the Apes - 8/10

My wife wanted to see this more than I did mostly because I figured we all knew how it would end but I ended up thoroughly enjoying it. The CGI was great and the story actually made you care about what happened to the apes. It is definitely one of the better movies of the summer.

So it's 12 years old, I don't care. I just watched Human Traffic the whole way through twice in the last 36 hours and it's so stupid good. I'm too young to have ever seen the 90s club culture but even all that aside it's just as much about the performances and the characters and the humor as much as it is about the scene. It's got almost Scrubs design to it with the brilliant little fantasy sequences and the cast has such extraordinary chemistry. Now I know why my friend told me to watch it 6 years ago.

What's your name?

What've you had?

Reach for the lasers.

Safe as fuck.

The Killers - 8/10: A noir film from 1946 which traces the shooting death of a guy through the use of flashbacks as an insurance guy goes through trying to uncover what happened. It's a pretty classic noir film; a heist, with lots of characters with questionable motives, and of course a femme fatale or two. I am a big fan of well-constructed noir films and this one fits the bill well. Burt Lancaster is great; I kept thinking of how different (and awesome) he was in The Sweet Smell of Success which I watched recently. Starting to really like that guy.

The Lady From Shanghai -7/10: Another noir film, from 1947 starring Orson Welles and Rita Hayworth (sweet jeebus she was gorgeous ). This was a fun movie, but I have to say it was a bit sloppy in the editing department and even the story was a bit convoluted. Fortunately Hayworth and Welles and really all of the characters were great, so it made up for those shortcomings. It essentially revolves around Welles, with a bit of an odd Irish accent, as a dock worker that ends up wrapped in some shenanigans with Hayworth and her wealthy husband. Good times and damn, Hayworth

Cave of Forgotten Dreams (3D) - 7/10: Werner Herzog's documentary about the Chauvet caves in France where the oldest cave drawings (over 30,000 years old) done by humans were found. This is a pretty fascinating film and the only reason I am giving it only a 7 is because it really only needed to be an hour long. 60 minutes of this was amazing and absolutely riveting, but there were about 20-25 minutes that seemed unnecessary and even tiresome. The 3D was very cool in a few parts, but overall it was pretty irrelevant same as all 3D movies. Trying to piece together how everything came to be in the cave was also quite interesting and I actually wish Herzog had spent a bit more time on the people studying all of this stuff. Anyway, it was pretty amazing to see these drawings; they are so well preserved that they look as if they were painted yesterday. Obviously a pretty amazing anthropological find.
