Just watched a few hours ago 1974 film "Earthquake" with Charlton Heston. Give it a 7/10. Not kidding when i started feeling my house rock to the 7.1 earthquake that just hit out here this evening during the movie. Can't make this up.

Movie wise, its a better disaster film then films like twister, sharknado and your other various lower budget films. Practical effects over cgi and sometimes you can tell something was fake but for 1974 what the heck do you want. The movie had plenty of destruction.

Wasn't the Earthquake ride at Disney based on this? That ride was sweet as hell.

Not sure, the movie was quite a bit before my time but the friend who recommended us to watch it can absolutely answer your question. Surprisingly she knows quite a lot about Disneyland and what is new and has changed since the mid 60s when she first went there. I find it interesting you ask this cause she did mention something after our quake experience. She mentioned something about a theater type deal where it would move to the movie. I guess that could have been it?

You got me intrigued to find out the answer.

Yeah, they had you start in a big theater room where you'd watch some clips of the (or, a) movie, then you'd move into the subway and get to ride it while the earthquake happened.

From all of those Disney rides (Earthquake, King Kong, Twister), I could always distinctly smell propane. One of the things that have always stuck in my mind after all these years. Kind of like how the E.T. ride smells both weird but good.

Very cool and weird experience! Closest thing to that i experienced was the Back to the Future ride at Universal Studios. Kind of makes me sad i won't ever get to ride it again. It closed in 2007.

Checking Wiki and idk if this is 100% reliable but i found something from Universal Studios that kind of masks your experience. I copied and pasted a bit from this page.

Earthquake: The Big One was an attraction that opened with the park on June 7, 1990.[70] The 20-minute experience allowed guests to experience an 8.3 magnitude earthquake in Embarcadero station from the comfort of their subway train . Two versions of the ride operated. The first version ran from the park's opening in 1990 through to 2002. It was solely based on the film Earthquake

Source https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_..._attractions#Earthquake:_The_Big_One/Disaster! I guess perhaps Disney had something like this too? I only remember Pirates of the Carribean and Indiana Jones but i went there in the mid 90s.

I didn't see this movie but the bolded immediately came to mind when I saw the previews for this ~last year. I'm like...uh so now this character is suddenly elite special forces science nerd hacker person? wtf? Do not want.

I didn't read the books or watch the American version(s?) of this story, but I saw the original Dutch trilogy with Noomi Rapace. Such a cool, sleek story, but this new movie looks absolutely nothing like the character.

The book and original movies are set in Sweden. But yes, the Swedish version of the films are soooo much better. Noomi is a much better choice, and the movies are more true to the books. Which were fantastic. Not even close how much better the originals are. Subs though, some people don't like them.

Stranger Things season 3, only 3 episodes in, but I am enjoying it a lot. It's true that the original, and seasons after plays heavily into nostalgia. We're constantly talking about products or places in the show, that were around when we were a kid. Even more now with the mall.

It's still pretty cool to me that the entire show is based off of my work. They try to hide it, but certain clues point to the obvious. Probably finish this weekend.

Yeah I'm 2 eps into Stranger Things S3 and pretty much nothing has happened. This was the same problem with season 2. It's like they went overboard with the nostalgia though, but I'm a sucker for it. Malls used to be incredible.

Reminds me i still need to finish Season 1. Actually have not renewed Netflix in some time but should to catch up to this awesome show.

Your right about Malls, they used to be cool. Nothing more awesome then a car filled with people who can't make up their minds and agree on where to go eat. Then it hits you to check out the mall and just visit the food court! I mean why not, half the people in the car want to buy the latest cd or check out spencers. My best mall experience is still the Ontario Mills in Ontario, California. It's so dang big you could drive a big rig through it i am sure. The Pacific View in Ventura is still alive and kicking and its still hip!

Edit: Decided to renew and go for the premium plan. Got a 40'' 4k Samsung a bit ago and want to actually enjoy watching some 4k content on it. Can anyone confirm if Season 1 now streams in 4k or is it only 3? I guess discs have sold that are 4k but i can't find nothing concrete.

Season 1 originally did. I believe one of the first Netflix titles to do so. I don't see why it wouldn't now. I just checked on my phone with Netflix, but it didn't say under the title where it usually does. Netflix won't show, what the media device can't do though. Like it won't show 4K if the device doesn't support 4K. It should say 4K, HDR, etc if your setup supports it. Sorry, not much help.

I just checked. On my 4k TV, season 2 and 3 show "HDR" on my TV when playing an episode, while season 1 does not.

EDIT:

I just checked again from my 4k Sony box (instead of streaming through my TV), and all seasons show it's streaming in 4k resolution. However, season 1 definitely does not have HDR, so it doesn't look near as good as season 2 and 3.

Alright thanks for the input! Yeah i haven't exactly experienced HDR yet on my tv. Should make for a interesting experience. Not seeing a HDR option anywhere in the tvs menu so i guess this one defaults to it on if the content supports it? When i had it hooked up to my tower i didn't bother with it given all the headaches and issues i have heard go on with washed out colors. Plus my current list of actively played games don't even support it.

Currently on episode 3 of the show and its quite amazing. I got to the fifth i think the last time i watched but its been so long i just decided to start off from the beginning. It does look amazing and sounds equally the same.

If your TV supports HDR, it should come on automatically. I have a LG TV, and it was enabled by default out of the box, and whenever I play anything that has HDR, I get a little box pop up in the right corner of my TV letting me know it's active:

We have watched 7 episodes. Episode 7 really pissed both of us off. A certain part is so infuriating. But overall, very good. Nostalgia is heavy in this show, but look at fashion and other aspects. Watch Khalid video, Talk. Straight up 90's. Sound, moves, clothes. In another video, almost the exact same outfit as a old BBD video. Nostalgia is strong.

About the 4K and HDR thing. My LG OLED, it won't play 4K/HDR when using the in-TV app. Only when using my PS4, will it play with 4K/HDR. Really annoying. Under the title of Stranger Things 3, it's just Dolby Digital. And I don't have the options in the TV settings like normal. Other movies and TV shows play properly. Show it and play it with 4K/HDR. My Sony QLED and cheaper LG LCD show season 3 in 4K/HDR just fine.

Just finished Season 3 of Stranger Things. Really, really good season. Not sure about the ending... But if you have kids who are or have grown up, going to be a tear jerker.

Decent amount of humor, unbelievable stuff, and relationships. Continued on the tried and true formula. Hard seeing child actors grow up, going to be interesting if there is another season.

9/10.

Aren't all those rides at Universal Studios theme parks? (always conveniently near the 2 big Disney parks)

Yep, I think it's a pretty good combo of humor, fantasy, drama like you said. I'm on episode 6 (beginning) but I've been really enjoying this season, maybe even more-so than the first season. I'm not done with it but I'll give it 9/10 (doubt I'll have to change that haha).

Office Space (Mike Judge, 1999) 9/10

Yeah, it's been 20 years. Watched last night... wanted to watch something that would make me laugh! Hadn't seen it in over 5 years. Yeah, I laughed. Still one of my favorite movies ever. The opening is one of the greatest ever, it's absolutely brilliant, and perfect. The brilliance doesn't stop. So many great scenes!

I feel a special connection with this movie. I was working at software companies about this time and using the same software (xBase derivative) as our central protagonist, Peter Gibbons. I actually had one project (exactly when this movie was made) where I did Y2K compliance for an app, the same thing Peter did day in, day out. So, I was Peter, he was me. I can feel him! And that job in particular really sucked, I had inter-office clash problems that closely resemble those in Office space.

Before getting into computers I exclusively worked a myriad of temp jobs, for over 10 years, so I can get to where Peter was at the end of the movie.

Probably my favorite comedy of all time. I remember watching it all the time when it came out (I was around 14); I've probably seen it at least 40 times and it just never gets old. Even if your situation isn't exactly like Peter's, you can still relate to nearly everything in the movie.

I've only seen it 6 times! I have two copies, one an earlier non-anamorphic DVD, the other the anamorphic Special Edition DVD. Never fails, I should watch it more! Watching it last night, it was fresh, I picked up on things as if never before. This movie stands the test of time, at least for me.

We rented US on Blu-ray. I'd give it a 3/10 just because it at least made me think, even if the thinking was "wtf is going on in this movie?!".

Rocky 10/10

I watched it for the first time in a while last night, and the emotional impact is still there after all of these years.

The sequence leading up to the moment where Rocky finally goes down for what seems like the last time and his trainer yells at him to stay down is one of the most intense and charged I've ever seen in a sports movie, or probably any type of movie. And Rocky earns it.

Are all of the parts perfect by themselves? No. But they come together as a perfect whole, at least for me.

The Quiet Place 8/10

Mostly because of Blunt, she gave her best - might be because of her husband - even this is a low budget film. The alien idea is stupid but that's not the point, this film is to show case Blunt.

Spiderman - Far From Home 7.5 / 10

Nothing groundbreaking compared to any of the other Marvel movies, but it had great special effects and was a solid summer action movie. I personally wish they'd make MJ a little less "emo" whenever she talks, and they had an interesting spin on Mysterio that I didn't see coming.
