I still like the classics.

Christmas Story
Die Hard
Lethal Weapon
Die Hard 2
Silent night, Deadly night
etc.

Oh, if you guys need some suggestions:

I tried watching Die Hard 2 last year (was the only free one, I think)....and it's just bad. Way worse than I remember.

1 is just so much better.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is the kind of movie that basically sucks but people hail as being a cinematic achievement because it sucks in a very particular way.
I watched it once and I will never watch it again. Much like both Kill Bills and Deathproof.

i tried again to sit through La Cité des Enfants Perdus - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112682/
and did not make it.

Stylistically it's superior to Brazil, but plotwise it doesnt hold a candle, nor does it compare when it comes to the characters. Characters in Brazil are quirky and absurd and surreal, to further the plot. In LCDEP they are quirky and that's the whole film. It's just excessive, and while Brazil has characters at the edge of the absurd, which makes you want to understand them, LCDEP has caricatures, which i find repulsive, or childish. I dont relate to a brain in a box or a family of mongoloid clones.
The cinematography is spectacular, although i would prefer Baron Munchausen over this, although i recognize the excellent camera work that went into Cite'. I just wish it wasn't stuck so far up its own ass.

6.5/10

Are you surprised Cats is doing bad? Have you seen the trailer?
i haven't but i assume it's a rework of the super-famous massive-hit broadway show Cats (1981) so i'm not really sure how you can fuck up that, it's a theater show, you just re-do the same exact thing and bam! you got a hit show.

I love that movie. It is what turned me onto Jeunet long ago. I think it may be his best.

ok im not gonna lie, that looks AMAZING. I would say even better than the original, but then again i have a very vague idea of what the original looks like. What is it that you find so repulsive, the CGI ?

Can't tell if serious or just someone who worked on the film.

Cats is actually kinda terrible, though. It's very famous...for the one song. Only the one song. Otherwise, it's stupid and ridiculous...and I actually like musicals and a decent bit of ALW's stuff.

lol. It does look kinda weird but I actually don't think it looks as horrible as most people do.

I do find the meme-ing of it funny:

I think the reason why many people think it looks odd is because of the concept of "uncanny valley." Corridor Digital explained it in a video or two on YouTube (regarding the Cats film).

Be sure to get the non-DNR versions, though the fans know what they're doing and it's probably not bad at all. The amount of grain is incredible.

EDIT: BTW, check out the Grindhouse editions. They're the 35mm scans with no cleaning, so you get all the scratches/dirt. It's really something else. Here's a comparison for ESB, though a YouTube video doesn't do it justice - you've gotta watch it on a nice big HDTV or projector:

Last night I watched Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood. I'd probably give it a 7/10. Certainly didn't feel like a Tarantino movie but the acting was excellent (as was the music), and the ending was hilarious. Felt like it dragged in some scenes, mostly the Western movie scenes.
Felt like Tarantino's take on a Coen Brothers movie: Everyone is confused and no one character knows what's really going on.

Saw it in theaters and loved it!

Right. every single one of Bay's films are edited this way. none of it ever makes any sense. I think he makes films only to generate a neat poster or advertising image. Every damn thing is barely-coordinated to produce a handful of "cool images!" for various purposes

Guess this classic really should have said Michael Bay instead of Jerry Bruckheimer.

LOL! Disagree.

I went in to this movie completely blind. Zero expectations. No trailer. No idea what it was about. Nothing.

It got it's hooks into me hard. I was laughing out loud not because it was funny but because I didn't know how else to react to the violence when a good guy does something horrible and over-the-top to a bad guy. Everything leading up to it was mesmerizing too... except Brad Pitt taking his shirt off on the roof just because he's Brad Pitt. Guess they had to throw in something for the ladies who were brought to this surprisingly-wholesome gore-fest.

Star Wars TRoS

6/10

Some monologue by
Palpatine
would have went a looong way.
Spoilers?
I didn't particularly care for Episode VII and actively decided to wait until the trilogy was finished to watch the others. Didn't even watch the spin-offs. Only thing keeping me from doing it already were the rumors that it was terrible, which is why I waited to see what AT members say in this thread. Yours is the only report so far and it somehow it manages to sneak a spoiler in one short line.

Oh well.

IMO if something is revealed in a trailer it’s fair game. The use of his name as a spoiler is debatable.

Well, Bruckheimer was the Michael Bay of his day.

...I think Bruckhemier was an early producer/mentor for Bay, early on? I could be confused. They are all the same.

Guess so. Obviously I haven't been paying attention to the trailers either. Thanks!

Yeah. Bruckheimer "discovered" Bay directing music videos then brought him under his wing. Jerry put Michael on the Hollywood fast-track by producing several big movies with Bay as the director. They were practically joined at the hip!
