I can see that Cats has very much that "uncanny valley" thing going for it so i wouldn't be surprised if people got freaked out by it, but i must be over the edge because to me it looks really good.

Star Wars TRoS

6/10

Some monologue by Palpatine would have went a looong way.
I really hope one of the Fan Edits do TRoS and add something.

they did a great job of editing/adding to explain stuff like Leia's Resistance when the Republic is in control in TFA:

I’m in my mid 30s, I have never had the joy of walking out of a Star Wars movie satisfied. I can only imagine...

Angel has Fallen 5/10

The last (and worst) installment in the '..has Fallen' trilogy. (Olympus has Fallen, London has Fallen)

first 2/3's of the movie was your basic shoot em up with a far fetched premise.
then it gets REALLY off the rails far fetched.

How does the bad guy with all his planning not have a plan for
when the star finds out it was him that framed the star for the assassination attempt on the Pres?

then when the FBI visits the bad guy to talk about the info the star gave them, he kills them.
he tells his mercenary team they're going to hide off shore.

but before they do that, he tells his team that they're going to attack the highly secured and guarded hospital where the President is recuperating and kill him.

Rambo: Final Blood - 1/10

I love the Rambo series. I mean they aren't "great cinema" or anything, but they are what they are and they entertain. Especially, in the 80s when Stallone and Rambo were at their peaks in cheesiness. Anyways, this latest/last installment is horrible. There's nothing redeeming to any of it. I mean he's old as dirt. The story-line is hooooooooooooorible. You're supposed to have some sort of tug on your heartstrings and that doesn't happen. It's just bad in every conceivable way.
You are insane. I just finished this movie and would give it like a solid 8/10 possibly 9/10.

It's like a fucking Rambo version of Home Alone in the last 20 minutes. That alone is like a fucking 20/10 for the last act alone.

It's like 85 minutes long and definitely worth checking out.

Cleaning up the audio and video is fine by me.
Adding new stuff is not. Especially since a lot of it just doesnt match at all.
The Dewbacks dont fit in. That stupid song & dance routine was horrible and also doesnt fit.
The new Ewok song is terrible. And shoving young Anakin in place of old Anakin doesnt even make sense.

I’m all for digital restoration if the don’t change anything else. Lucas was ahead of his time with the digital sets, characters and editing.

The issue is you need strong actors if they are going to be working around nothing but green screen. Hayden C wasn’t good, Ewan wasn’t bad.

And CGI Yoda vs. Dooku is IMO the most cringeworthy scene in all the movies.

Ya know what, Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker wasn't half bad. It kinda felt like a Star Wars reunion movie, where they get the band back together for one last big heist to save the galaxy or something.

I'd give it a 7.5 out of 10, just for the throwback nostalgia factor.

BTW, there is a whole thread about this movie. I gave it 8.5/10 over there. May have been a bit generous, but IMO it is the best since New Hope/Empire Strikes back.

Watching that classic Christmas movie, Die Hard, on MTV. I don’t care for profanity but the movie ain’t the same without it.

How do you guys feel about Star Trek: Special Edition? Because they were filmed on, well, film... they were able to go back and make HD transfers. I think it's kinda funny that some of the prequel trilogy will forever be stuck with a 720p master and yet Star Trek from the '60s can be 4K.

Problem for Star Trek SE is that all the screen shaking and most of the other special effects weren't part of the original series film masters, which meant they needed to be recreated from scratch using modern techniques. This also gave them an opportunity to update those parts... like use a CG ship in HD and make the planet look different every time the original version would have reused the same clip of the starship Enterprise approaching a planet.

The changes in ST: SE weren't inexplicable like adding rocks around R2D2 or substantive like changing who shot first between Han Solo and Greedo. Kirk is still the same sexist womanizer. Is that what makes it any easier to accept? *Is* it any easier to accept?

Technology Connections made a video today where he claimed that Star Trek: Voyager could never get the same Special Edition treatment because all of the SFX were done in post on video instead of film, completely ignoring that they said the exact same thing about the potential for Star Trek: The Next Generation Special Edition after Star Trek: Special Edition was announced... yet we got ST:TNG SE. Granted, there isn't as much love for Voyager to fund such a restoration.

i watched again after many years Minna Yatteru Ka! (Getting Any?) - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110524/

when i was younger i used to love to bits Takeshi Kitano - and i still would love him, if not for the fact that i think he has reached perfection with Zatoichi - and with the help of a rental card i went through most of his filmography in VHS.
Now, Kitano is known for making these brutal, grindhouse-style gangster films with excessive bodycounts, but back in the days he was a comedy actor and actually has a film IIRC directed and starring in, which is a sex comedy.

For those of you who don't know, sex comedies are a thing is asia, they are generally PG-13 and normally the protagonist doesn't get any sex, which is where the humour lies. And Getting Any isn't any different.

The protagonist whose name i dont recall right now is a grown up virgin, who daydreams ways to get SEXXSU, but invariably his schemes go awray either because he's an idiot, or because he dreamed up something unrealistic, or simply because people around him steal his chances.

The film doesn't hold much to repeat viewings, but because of its unusual, surreal humour i recommend this to anyone who can cope with subtitles and the occasional naked tittie, even if they are not a Kitano fan.

My vote: 7/10 - weird in a funny way, funny in a weird way

Death Wish (1974) - 8.5/10. The guy just didn't care, which was pretty cool. I should watch more Charles Bronson movies. I was hoping
he would end up killing the three guys who attacked his wife and daughter,
but maybe that works if you think about it. It wasn't really a revenge movie.

Plus, I really dug the groovy 70s music.

Have you watched The Mechanic? If not, do.

Later Death Wish movies (#2 excluded) are so over the top it becomes comedy.

Started watching The Witcher on Netflix. I'm not familiar with the series/story at all so I'm kinda "wat" a bit but I'm enjoying it so far. Some genuinely funny moments here and there. I'm only on the beginning of the 3rd episode I believe.

Score will come when I'm done but it'll be high probably.

Star Wars: RoS 8/10

Sure there are plot holes and things can be ripped apart. You could say the same for any movie in the SW Universe - not to mention any movie franchise that has been around for 40+ years, had 11 movies, a mountain of TV episodes and countless discussions, has been analyzed a million times from every angle etc etc. I've seen RoS twice now and I walked out each time entirely happy and fully entertained. It was good from start to finish and only one part really gnaws at me -
that damned kiss at the end

All in all I would put it at my 4th favorite out of the 9 Skywalker Saga movies, and it is in a tight race for 3rd with RotJ, but nostalgia wins that argument.

People are just hating on it because that's easy to do after TLJ. But if you go into it with an open mind and a realization that no franchise this long and this huge could ever be done "cleanly" in the end, you might just come up enjoying it.
