Odin was played by Anthony Hopkins and his performance was great. Didnt realize till the ending credits that it was Hopkins.

He did the best acting out of everyone if you ask me.

Yeah, I didn't realize who he was until the credits, either.

Yeah one guy I invited has been on maybe once as far as I can tell.

I too have more invites if anyone wants one, but I think we've already gotten all of the movie buffs here. :hmm:

I'd take an invite, but to be honest, I'm not sure how often I'd use it.
Is it basically a SNS for sharing thoughts on films?

Ok, I've watched all the 6 parts over the weekend. Wow, it gets pretty crazy in the second and third installments. I've got a lot to talk about this, but I'll do that once I reach home.

The Girl who played with fire - 6.5/10

This movie is a snooze fest. Yes, it does a good job of explaining Lizbeth Salander's past, but that is just about it. The new characters introduced are not exciting at all. The only interesting part is the revelation that Zala
is Lizbeth's father.

Coming to the third part.

Girl who kicked the hornet's nest - 5/10

Totally disappointed with how this movie ended. I hated the character of Nieederman, he did not add anything to the plot.. IMO.
Also, wtf with all those old white dudes, I thought they were a waste too.

I expected this movie to be court room drama, and I would have liked it even more if it was just that.
Oh.. and after Lizbeth produces the evidence of rape and shows it to the people over there, why didn't the DA spin this evidence against Lizbeth as this rape was a motive to kill Bjurman.

There are a lot of things that I would like to point out, but I feel they are not worth my time. Overall, pretty disappointed with 2nd and 3rd sequels.

^From what I remember, the second two movies weren't reviewed too favorably, though the third did much better than the second. I would imagine that extended versions made them that much less enjoyable.

So what are you guys trying to see this week? I know there's not much new around here, I'll probably try again too see Jeff Who Lives At Home, and I might have been suckered into seeing Hunger Games. I imagine KT will do all he possibly can to see Damsels in Distress

I don't know how you kept up with everything in the 3rd movie, but even in these extended versions.. a lot of things happened so fast, I couldn't invest in anything thing during the whole movie. So many damn things happening all the time.. it was pretty tiring after a while.

I actually didn't mind the third Dragon Tattoo film as it brought Nyquvist and Salander back together; they were apart for way too much of the second film and it made the whole thing kind of boring. Also you can really see the production values dip after the first film, which just added to the overall flat feeling of the subsequent movies.

I really want to see The Raid this weekend, but I'm not sure I'll have time.

The Hunger Games - 4.5/10:
I don't have much to say that KT didn't already, but I'll reiterate the wasted cast and horrible CGI.

I'll add that I didn't think Lawrence was that bad, but she wasn't particularly good either. I hated her in Winter's Bone and I think she has an annoying face, so I was expecting the worst, but I didn't hate her.

I'll also say that while this isn't a good movie, and there really isn't anything good about it, I didn't find it quite as horrible as KT. It was boring, long, and there was plenty of crapness, but I've seen plenty of movies that are more actively shitty than this one, so I guess that deserves a little credit, and about 4.5 points/10

Fright Night (2011) - 7.5/10: Pretty damn solid re-make of one of my favourite horror films as a youth. Craig Gillespie, director of Lars and the Real Girl, a film I love, does some good work here; taking what was a fun horror film and updating it to modern times. There is some great style in this film and why there are some issues, particularly with respect to editing (a little choppy in parts) and with the CGI (a bit dicey in parts) it was pretty darn fun ride. Anton Yelchin was excellent as Charlie and was really the strongest part part of the movie for me. Colin Farrell is very good as Dandridge; I can't say he is any better than Chris Sarandon, who was awesome in the original
sweet cameo from him too
but he does a good job with the role. Definitely has flaws, but a surprisingly good, fun movie.

I don't know man, I found it pretty actively shitty.

- the attempt to manufacture emotion with a character that was barely on screen (Rue)
- the lack of any depth of character for anyone in the film, including Crapness
- the awful CGI
- the complete lack of stakes and impact (there were maybe two moments that exuded any sort of tension)
- the terrible action scenes (not sure how anyone could see what was going on)

Well I could go on and on, but this movie is really not worth the carpal tunnel.

Well I could argue that the first two and the fourth bullet points are just failures to make a good movie, passively shitty

Maybe you softened me up and I was expecting it to be really bad and instead it was just bad. There weren't too many cringe worth moments, though there were a few. Mostly I just found it incredibly boring and dull, which is bad enough to skip it, but something like Twilight is probably shittier in every aspect. It lacked everything but at least it wasn't Jack and Jill, so that's worth at least a few points in my eyes

What about the funniest part of the movie, when that kid has painted himself like a rock and is laying on the ground camouflaged. I spit a Skittle at that part it was so stupid and funny.

I'm probably coming form the opposite spectrum because I had heard so many good things going in, I was stunned by how far from good it was. Oh well, at least I know I do not need to watch the sequels.

 I laughed at that part too, I'll give you a point for that one.

My favorite line was "you know how to hunt"

"yeah, animals"

There were a couple other lame parts. I can't remember if I laughed at the spear through Rue :hmm: Either I laughed or I laughed at someone else laughing at it

But you're right, if I was expecting good, I would have been hugely disappointed and would have killed it like you did.

I definitely laughed at Rue getting speared; it was just so obvious, I was calling it before it happened. It was like the apple/pig thing earlier on, you just knew it was going to happen because the hints were like a hammer to the face.

Silly movie.

I watched Godspell last night. It's hard to rate. Really a low budget production, but I like Jesus stories, and I like the time period it was filmed in. Good tunes, and interesting visuals.

Jesus...

Bridesmaids - 7/10:
Comedic hijinks, comedic hijinks, comedic hijinks, sad turn of events! Ugh I'm sick of this played out progression in comedies. The serious part is always stupid as shit and only detracts from the humor. It's unfortunate, because there were a lot of funny moments in this movie, but there were also a bunch of lame ones as well. I didn't like Hamm's character/part of the story, nor the mom or the roommates or a few other parts. It was a decent watch and better than the average piece of crap comedy, but it definitely seems like this was overrated

Bottle Rocket - 7.5/10:
Wes Anderson's first feature, and the first of his that I've seen from start to finish. I liked the story and the characters, and for a first time director it was really well done.

What I didn't enjoy was some of the "quirky" humor, though I can't think of the right word to describe it. It's those off kilter comments that seem funny because of what the audience knows, I don't find that amusing at all. Luckily there were some honestly funny moments as well, but the rest of the "jokes" really bothered me because I don't think they are funny. The example I think best sums up what I mean, and you'll have to have seen the movie to understand, but the letter Anthony writes to Grace: "I do have one bit of advice for you, though Grace. Take the time in school to learn a foreign language. I myself never did , and I feel I've paid a price for it." The last sentence is almost corny enough to make it funny, but there were a few lines like this that got on my nerves.

I read Rogert Ebert's review from 1996 and he says he didn't like the movie too much, but he was looking forward to what Anderson and the Wilsons do in the future. I feel the same way but I'm wary because what I've seen from the rest of Anderson's movies it looks like he only gets weirder, and I don't think "weird" on its own is funny. We'll see.
