Mrs. Ned finally convinced me to watch The Crown on Netflix. She watched seasons 1&2 a year ago, and then begged me to watch it with her. I resisted... but now I'm hooked. It ranks in my top 2 or 3 favorite TV shows ever.

anyone else seen this one yet?
Yeah I thought it was pretty good. The historical attention to detail was very good. There's a "supernatural" aspect to it, so don't go into it expecting a straight hardcore historical docuseries. I liked it.

Season 2 I enjoyed less so. Again, I liked the historical detail but I guess I didn't like the story as much as the first season.

I'm confused how the season 2 trailer is a different era from season 1. I have not seen season 1 yet.

Eh? The trailer KMFJD posted above is for the first season of The Terror, which uses the real event of the Northwest Passage search by John Franklin and crew as part of the story.

The second season takes place during World War II and features the internment of Japanese Americans:

True Detective season 1 is absolutely fantastic, BUT, only if you have the proper mindset.

Don't go in looking for a cool police procedural. That's not what they're offering and not what you're gonna get.
Expect to find a character study, set against the backdrop of a Louisiana homicide unit. And as long as you remember to focus on the characters you will be very pleased.

Learned something thanks to the internet. Apparently Boyd Crowder was supposed to die at the end of Justified's pilot episode. Test audiences liked him so much they completely rewrote the series just to keep him in. Which made the series deviate heavily from the novel.

Boyd is one of my favorite bad guys in a series. It may have had to do with that actor also being awesome in The Shield years prior.

Call Of The Wild is being made once again, this time with Harrison Ford.

I was forced to read the book in junior high, and watch the Charlton Heston film.
It focused a little too much on John Thornton and not enough on the dog. I suspect the new film will be similar.

But its got a nice trailer:

Men In Black - International 3/10

Boring, boring, boring. Watched it with my kids, but after about 50 minutes I gave up. Sometimes reboots work, but many times they don't (like this one). The chemistry of Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson worked great in the Thor movie, but it is not very good in this one.

I finished it, but yeah, it had so much more potential than they were able to utilize. I thought Thor & Valkarie were great together in Thor 3, but it was kinda meh in MIB3.

I'm still waiting for someone to pull another James Cameron & come out with a sequel that was even better than the first (Terminator 2!).

Finally got around to watching Hoop Dreams, long assumed to be the greatest documentary ever. Not sure if its true, but it was damn good and probably something most Americans need to watch at least once in their lives. Especially nowadays with all the negativity we have.

10 / 10

Oh, and True Detective Season 2 was actually good but not as great as the first. They focused too much on political intrigue and not enough on the characters, which is what made season 1 so memorable.

I'm halfway through Fresh off the Boat, which just ended at Season 6. It's a family sitcom about a Chinese immigrant family that moves to Orlando in the mid-90's. It's a good low-key funny show to watch when your brain is zapped after work & you don't want to have to think too hard before you go to bed, lol. It's bonus funny if you grew up with siblings or were a kid in the 90's, as they reference everything from Pogs to Pop Rocks.

7/10

Whatever you do, don't watch S2. S3 is fairly good though.

edit: True Detective

Season 2 is still very good....it's just not as good as S1, and it sorta goes in a different, strange...um, "Lynchian" direction. I like it quite a bit, but it's definitely the weakest season.

S3 is indeed, quite great. It was a year before I eventually got around to watching it. Mahershela Ali [sic.] is amazing.

Yeah, Boyd really made that series. They knew what they were doing. Walton Goggins is also just awesome in everything, it seems.
