Safe - Netflix series - 8/10 Entertaining enough thriller. Moves fast. Guy who played Dexter is also the lead in this one. Just one season.

The Five - Netflix series - 7.5/10 Darkly themed thriller. Engaging enough to also be called a good diversion. Also just one season.

Movies I have watched since the pandemic started.

Stalag 17 - it had been a good number of years. A true classic, 10/10.

Cyrano De Bergerac 1950 version. Brilliant. I have seen this one several times over the decades. 10/10

Sgt. York - Humor, action, drama, and based on actual person. 10/10

Inception - I had never seen it. Hugely disappointed. I suppose it was inevitable given the years of positive internet feedback about it. The movie struck me as Dreamscape meets the Matrix. 6/10

Bumblebee - Wife picked it, she liked it. My opinion is that it was a reboot of Herbie the Love Bug. 5/10

Watched some James Caan movies. From a very politically incorrect time.

Rollerball - Moonpie! 7/10

Killer Elite - classic action flick. 7/10

Freebie and the Bean - Even the title would trigger PC principle. One of the first buddy cop movies I am aware of. If you have never seen this one, it is damned funny, and has a classic car chase scene, like so many movies had back then. 8/10

Charlie Heston movies-

Omega Man - Nostalgia is great, but it did not age as well as I hoped it would. I feel like it is 6/10 but because of when it was made- 8/10

Soylent Green - is people. Key themes were, overpopulation, acidification of the oceans, and global warming. Unheeded cautionary tale. 10/10
a bit generous there with the ratings, but, i agree.

I have two questions for you:

1. Rollerball - the 1975 masterpiece or the 2002 garbage?

2. Soylent Green - which colour is your favorite furniture girl?

If you want some nostalgia:

The list probably wont mean much to a lot of you, but for those of us who grew up with the show its kind of special. The series actually meant something to television and to America during its early seasons.

Along those lines:

A good analysis of what went right and what eventually went wrong.

that's....not a bad list. I don't recall anything after season 10/whatever was the Lemon Tree season, ....which is what I call the end of the Simpsons, simply because that is when me and mine stopped watching. ...we taped them all and watched them religiously and, without shame at the time, basically communicated to each other in Simpsons quotes for the better part of High School, up until that time. ....shamelessly true.

So there are some mentions of seasons in there, that I have no idea, but I'm at 10 seasons, so if you're going to do a top 15 of what is it...25 seasons now? ....and pretty much everything you remember being great still makes it? so yeah, they figured it out.

James Caan = Rollerball.

Leigh Taylor-Young was gorgeous.

Watched Demolition Man recently. Talk about guilty pleasures; it is so bad it's good. "He finally matched his meat. You really licked his ass." "What' your boggle?" "Have a joy joy day!" And no physical contact greetings, man does that resonate lately. There is the laundry list of stuff that is cool and weird about the movie sort of, kind of, getting some things about the future accurately, which most of us are familiar with. But that one really jumped out at me.

Tenet - ??? / 10

I saw Tenet last night at our local drive-in. I can't rate this movie yet - I need to see it again. I saw it late when I was tired & after I had had a glass of wine... both problems for a movie that requires focus & concentration. Also, since it was at the drive-in, the sound was on FM radio and the quality was, well... FM quality. To say the least, I missed some of the dialog. This is an incredibly cerebral movie. This morning I read the plot synopsis on Wiki, and I'm pleased to find that my understanding of the plot was generally correct. Even so, during my first viewing I felt confused most of the time, especially during the big ending. I guess in the final analysis, I *want* to watch it again, which I guess says something positive. That said, I'm not sure I've ever had a film make me feel so stupid.

Watched the first three episodes of Raised By Wolves. At this point I am trying to figure out who is the good, the bad and the ugly. I'll give it a 7/10 for now.

yeah according to the video analysis (and I agree with it), the season 9 episode about Seymore Skinner being an intruder was when the show jumped the shark. Theres some decent episodes scattered thru season 9, but it marked the beginning of the slow decline.
They are on season 30 now. Some people who actually kept watching have said the quality has picked up in the last couple years, but I wouldnt know cuz I got sick of it a long time ago.

The one and only lemon tree episode was season 6.

And highly rated.

Tried watching Cop Out. It was so terrible I could not finish.
Whoever thought Tracy Morgan should head a feature length film was either crazy, stupid, or desperate.
He works best in 5 minute bursts, which is why he was popular on SNL and 30 Rock.
Its rare I stop watching a movie less than half way thru, even a bad movie.

For those who dont know, The Chase is not about a chase. Nor is it about Robert Redford.
Its about a bunch of slow tedious people having a slow tedious night while they think they're waiting for a fugitive to run right up to them and hold out his hands.
And theres some pretty honest commentary on race relations as well.
If you wanna see Jane Fonda yelling at random d-bags its good for that too.

ah dang, I guess for some reason I just recall that one being later. I know I watched through the first 10 seasons, but for some reason I put the Lemon Tree in my brain as the end of greatness, but that just isn't true.

The debate rages on. Some people think the Simpsons peaked in earlier seasons. Some think it never went bad.
Some think the show was always garbage. They are morons.

in regards to the Simpsons, while the show may have gone down in the last .. uh, 20 years or so .. i wouldn't know anyway, because i've grown out of that kind of humor. But, despiute the show not being as good, the Treehouse episodes are still great, and they keep being great even in the bad seasons.

Stranger Things S1

too long, too slow. not enough monster.
I wish tv-serial directors would understand that not every character deserves the same screen time. In good cinema (or good TV) some may have only a couple lines, and yet for this very reason be even more effective - think along the lines of Conservation Of Ninjutsu. If you can tell your story in 3 40 minute episodes, you should totally do it in 3 40 minute episodes, not 8 55 minute episodes.
Also, not really that great of a story; psychic child from a government lab *yawn* escapes, interdimentional dream monster lifted right out of silent hill chases kids, and at the first confrontation the monster gets its ass whopped.
It's not *the worst* thing i have watched, and i suppose the 1980s recreation *yawn again* is somewhat interesting, but not really something i would recommend.

If anyone cares, The Hunter is not a good movie. in fact its quite bad.
But, its not Steve McQueens worst movie.

The Kitchen - Film about 3 wives(Melissa McCarthy, Tiffany Haddish, Elisabeth Moss) taking over the 70's irish mob after their husbands get busted.

A random movie in the physical netflix queue that the wife mostly maintains. I enjoyed this movie more than I expected. A little bit of fish out of water tossed in with more murder than expected yielded pleasant results. La Croix essence of The Departed. Random "oiyrish" accents here and there.

6.5/10

Tolkien - Film about J.R.R. Tolkein's life before he wrote The Hobbit.

Follow J.R.R. Tolkein throughout his 100% certainly no-homo school boys club adventures, mixed in with dollops of horrible WWI trench warfare.

7/10

I watched all of season 1 just so i could be fresh for season 2. But the whole time I couldn't quite figure out who the actor for Homelander was..then it dawned on me. It's the motherfucker from Banshee.

Banshee was my favourite show.
